Today marked the completion another phase in my personal and professional development, a pursuit born out of a deep desire to examine the root causes and complex dimensions of violence in Jamaica from a more scientific, psycho-social, and geopolitical perspective so we can design policies and implement strategies that effectively and holistically address gun violence, from prevention to prosecution. We have made HEART/NSTA Trust training free up to the associate degree level, offering certifications in high-demand fields, including the skills of the future. We’ve removed barriers to student loan access, and we are building STEAM schools to prepare the next generation for tomorrow’s opportunities. It has been a journey, I am grateful, now the journey continues.

Kennedy’s speech today concluded powerfully: “If we’re really going to end the chronic disease epidemic, we need to recognize the connection between the physical decrepitude that now badgers our citizenry and the pervasive spiritual malaise that has left so many young people feeling alienated, dispossessed, disconnected, purposeless, and hopeless. Spiritual and physical maladies thrive on one another; they feed on one another. Our overall wellness must begin with a spiritual question: how do we relate to ourselves, to each other, to our communities, and to the planet?” “Vested interests and malignant political actors profit and flourish when we are atomized and fragmented and uncertain, when we can be easily propagandized, when we live in fear and helplessness and victimization. These forces prefer to have us in terror and anxiety, which disable our capacity for critical thinking and make us more compliant and more credulous. They want us hiding from ourselves, to avoid our own shadows, and dulling our pain and loneliness through sedation and distraction. Yet inside of us, we know that love and self-knowledge are the only true paths to good health. In the US, people spend 10 billion minutes a year on the phone with their bank. We’ve now handled more than 5 million customer interactions for financial institutions, and the growth we’ve seen over the last 10 months has been incredible. Department of Housing Secretary Scott Turner says American needs to get back to our founding principles “To pray together, to pray for each other, and to pray for our nation — This nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. And we have a president now that understands not only the power of prayer, but the importance of people in America praying and giving back to our foundation. And so I'm honored to just be a part of it, that every single week that you can get together with 10 people, and pray together. Think about it. We have a million people a week praying for our country. Mountains move when the people of God pray. You know, there's a scripture in the Bible and it says, God can bring the high places low and make the rough places smooth and that he delights in the prayer of his people. And so I believe that as Americans under President Trump's leadership, that as we pray together, that we'll see families come back together. We'll see people that are hurting and lost to come to a true knowledge of Jesus Christ. We'll see sons return to their fathers, daughters return to their mothers. We'll see people who have been fighting and combating in chaos come back together in like-mindedness. You can tell that she comes from a home where reading is encouraged, where parents spend time with their children, encourage them to read and watch documentary films, and actively teach them about what is happening around the world. If half of Zimbabwean parents did this, the O-level pass rate would change overnight. It has never risen above roughly 33 or 34 percent over the past 40 years. But if we, as parents and grandparents, sat down with children like this young girl, taught them, encouraged them to read and watch documentary films, and bought books for them, the quality of knowledge in our country would be transformed. A country grows and develops on the basis of the knowledge of its citizens. A child like this cannot be bought with Chicken Inn or lured with food to attend a political rally because she is far more aware and independent in her thinking. By the time she is 20, she will be far ahead of the average 20-year-old today. Well done to the parents.

Me: I discuss in the book—it refers to the state where I know something, you know something, I know that you know it, you know that I know it, I know that you know that I know it, and so on ad infinitum. So it differs a bit from the conventional usage, which just refers to something that everyone knows. Here, everyone has to know that everyone knows. Times Radio Interviewer (Daniel Finkelstein Daniel Finkelstein): Can I use this with reference to the interview that I did yesterday with my brother? My brother’s a professor at City University; he’s president of the university, and there’s a campaign at the moment going on against one of their professors who was in the Israeli Defense Forces in the 1980s. We were having a discussion about how the university was standing up for the free speech of its staff, and I’d begun to wonder, as I went home reading your book on the tube, whether I’d made a big mistake—because the protest against this professor is really just a coordination exercise, isn’t it? And maybe I’d aided it by talking about it. Me: Oh yes—protests are coordination exercises. They’re designed to make private knowledge common knowledge. So, in a repressive regime, everyone may know that they despise the government, but because criticism of the government is punished, people might keep their opinions to themselves, with a result that they really don’t know what their fellow citizens think. Each one might think that they’re the only ones that are disgruntled, and so they can’t fear standing up to—they fear standing up to oppose the regime, because they can be picked off one at a time. If everyone were to protest at once, no government has the firepower to intimidate all its citizens at once. In a public protest, people can see other people there, and they know that the people there see other people there, and that can give them the strength and numbers to oppose the regime—sometimes by literally storming the palace, or sometimes just bringing the machinery of the state to a halt through work stoppages. But the crucial thing is that they are coordinated. They can only be coordinated if everyone knows that everyone knows that they hate the regime. Daniel Finkelstein: I suppose that social media is making people—is increasing the stock of common knowledge. We’re all much more aware of what other people like us, in particular like us, know, and we also know that other people know it, and so on, as you put it, and that makes people have more common knowledge. It’s not making us happier though; maybe we’d be better with less common knowledge? Me: Social media are making us more connected within certain circles—that is, those who are receiving the same texts and feeds that we are. It reduces the pool of, or shrinks the largest pool of common knowledge, namely the whole country, which may have been accessible in a day in which, say, in the United States there were three networks, or in Britain everyone was listening to the BBC. And yes, it probably doesn’t make us as happy, because when everything is public, it means that your reputation is on the line for anything you say or do. It means that since social media allow us to generate common knowledge, not just receive it like in the old days, it means that attacks on people’s reputation can be common knowledge, which means that it’s all the more painful for people on the receiving end of the attack. It may have something to do with the fact that in certain demographics—especially young people whose lives increasingly are online—that there’s that much more social competition, opportunities for gossip and ostracism and demeaning comments, and so on. I taught my Primary 2 students magnetic fields, and how they help us determine magnetic north and bearings using a compass. At the later half of the class, the students did a small experiment that used a magnet and compass to test what we learned. This is what Nigeria can take away from this: 1. LANGUAGE: Using Chinese to explain magnetic fields was so easy for them to understand, and took less than 4 mins. They never have to worry about understanding the grammar or remembering new vocabulary if another language was used. Language skill is not for everyone, just like technical and creative skills. While you or your son can learn a new language fast, others might be more technically inclined. Nigeria should use native languages to teach primary school children right from the first day in school. With many native languages, autonomous regions with different official languages will be ideal, with an option for international classes which are more English focused. 2. CURRICULUM: Unless we are really oblivious, there is no way a Nigerian primary 6 student can compete with my primary 2 students. These are kids that first came to our school so tiny and sometimes crying, many of them don’t even know how to write their names. A Nigerian taught them most of what they know today in less than 2 years, and because we have a curriculum that is modern, targets what the students really need to know, and its always modified to reflect their realities, they have acquired so much knowledge about how the world around them works like electricity, engines, space, aerodynamics, mechanics and environmental protection in a short time. What they are learning is directly linked to where their economy is headed, so by the time they are in university, they can easily understand advanced practical and theoretical knowledge and be useful to their economic development after graduation. Our curriculums in Nigeria are old and mostly useless to the growth of our economy, so let’s do the needful. Don’t wait for miracles to change them for you. We must demand this change. 3. GROUP WORK: Students are encouraged to work in groups, divide tasks and roles and they mentored to understand their strengths and challenges and resolve conflicts. They learn to work with others who are different from them, giving them a diverse perspective and mindset about working together. Nigeria cannot succeed without all of us uniting and learning to work with each other, irrespective of tribe, religion, region and family background. When we win as individuals, we will still be surrounded by helpless people, but when we win as a society, everyone develops. 4. TEACHERS: Here in China, we are always happy and encouraged to learn new things and ways to teach our students. We are free from worrying about food, shelter and pocket money. We are paid more than enough, so we have enough time and mental space to throughly research information and knowledge, and also design useful and interesting lessons for our students. Nigerian teachers should be paid a minimum of 800k to 1 million Naira per month. Primary school teachers lay down the crucial foundations for our economic growth, development and future. It is one of the most important professions in the country and the compensation and benefits MUST be more than senators and representatives. Liking, commenting and retweeting are nice because they help spread the message, however what’s more important is us uniting as Nigerians with our common interest to ensure that our needs are addressed.

I taught my Primary 2 students magnetic fields, and how they help us determine magnetic north and bearings using a compass. At the later half of the class, the students did a small experiment that used a magnet and compass to test what we learned. This is what Nigeria can take away from this: 1. LANGUAGE: Using Chinese to explain magnetic fields was so easy for them to understand, and took less than 4 mins. They never have to worry about understanding the grammar or remembering new vocabulary if another language was used. Language skill is not for everyone, just like technical and creative skills. While you or your son can learn a new language fast, others might be more technically inclined. Nigeria should use native languages to teach primary school children right from the first day in school. With many native languages, autonomous regions with different official languages will be ideal, with an option for international classes which are more English focused. 2. CURRICULUM: Unless we are really oblivious, there is no way a Nigerian primary 6 student can compete with my primary 2 students. These are kids that first came to our school so tiny and sometimes crying, many of them don’t even know how to write their names. A Nigerian taught them most of what they know today in less than 2 years, and because we have a curriculum that is modern, targets what the students really need to know, and its always modified to reflect their realities, they have acquired so much knowledge about how the world around them works like electricity, engines, space, aerodynamics, mechanics and environmental protection in a short time. What they are learning is directly linked to where their economy is headed, so by the time they are in university, they can easily understand advanced practical and theoretical knowledge and be useful to their economic development after graduation. Our curriculums in Nigeria are old and mostly useless to the growth of our economy, so let’s do the needful. Don’t wait for miracles to change them for you. We must demand this change. 3. GROUP WORK: Students are encouraged to work in groups, divide tasks and roles and they mentored to understand their strengths and challenges and resolve conflicts. They learn to work with others who are different from them, giving them a diverse perspective and mindset about working together. Nigeria cannot succeed without all of us uniting and learning to work with each other, irrespective of tribe, religion, region and family background. When we win as individuals, we will still be surrounded by helpless people, but when we win as a society, everyone develops. 4. We are still undervalued by infinity. For example, why is Sekoia at 20x market cap when our DAO has a lot more funds than them, and our capacity to help new projects is higher? We also have private knowledge that their only developer likes cats. What did he develop until now? I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, in partnership with UNICEF Zimbabwe, is launching the One Laptop, One iPad Per Pupil initiative an ambitious, nationwide programme aimed at bridging the digital divide and empowering every learner with the tools of the 21st century. As part of this initiative, I had the honour of presiding over the official handover of a major consignment of ICT devices, including laptops, projectors, and tablets. These resources are specifically targeted at disadvantaged and solar-powered schools across the country. They will support digital teaching and learning, ensuring that no child is left behind in our pursuit of inclusive, equitable, and quality Education. This programme is not merely about technology it is about equity, opportunity, and transformation. It is about unlocking the potential of every learner, regardless of geography or background, and ensuring that our education system is relevant, inclusive, and future-ready. Every parent begins as a first time parent. I often get responses from parents of older/adult children wishing they’d had access to some of the information I share when their children were younger. You know what? I wish I’d had it too. At the time of my children’s birth I had a masters degree in early childhood education. I was teaching kindergarten. (That’s me in my header photo.) Did it give me an advantage? Maybe to some degree. I certainly had a strong interest, and perhaps a little more knowledge than some. If my son had been born at age 5, I would have crushed this whole parenting thing. But when it came to babies, my knowledge was all academic. On the day our son was born, my wife and I had exactly 0 days experience caring for a baby of our own. The same holds true no matter who you are… every parent begins as a first time parent. And we all make mistakes and learn as we go. I wish I’d had access to the great video examples made possible by social media as both a parent and a teacher… which is why I do what I do here on X. “Back in my day” the primary opportunity to learn about child development was by reading. What an advantage it is to actually see some of these concepts in action. I love thinking this platform might give new parents and grandparents a leg up. Today in Kharkiv, another Russian precision-guided aerial bomb struck a civilian postal terminal. Currently, we know of ten injured. Sadly, one person was killed. Such Russian bombs remain Putin’s key capability to wage war. The sooner the world helps us neutralize Russia’s combat aviation launching these bombs and the sooner we can strike back with justified strikes against Russian military infrastructure and airfields, the closer peace will be. The world possesses enough strength to force Russia to make peace. While defending the Kharkiv region from Russian advances, we have shown that the resolve of partners truly makes a difference. Strikes on Russian border areas have helped our efforts to save lives. Similarly, further bold decisions will help, the ones that are necessary and the ones we are discussing with partners. We will continue this communication in the coming weeks in order to secure necessary decisions. Equally crucial, in the weeks following the Peace Summit, we have maintained constant dialogue with partners to support the summit’s communiqué. Already, we have secured ten more signatures from various participants across the world. The world must be represented as broadly as possible in peace efforts. And I thank our team for their active work. We now have more details on progress within working groups on specific security issues within the Peace Formula. There is no alternative to peace, and despite Russia’s efforts to expand the war, we will make every effort to restore peace to Ukraine. A just peace.

Daniel Dennett: You don't know your own mind as well as you think you do. In a 1993 Dutch documentary series, A Glorious Accident, philosopher Daniel Dennett laid out one of the most unsettling ideas in all of philosophy, the possibility that we are fundamentally mistaken about our own minds. We assume our minds are the one thing we have certain access to. Whatever else may be uncertain about the world, at least we know what we ourselves are thinking, right? Dennett argues this assumption is exactly what makes consciousness so hard to understand and so hard to challenge. He frames the core tension this way: on one hand, the mind seems like the most intimate thing we have access to. On the other, when we try to locate minds in the physical world as functions of the brain they seem to vanish entirely. "On the one hand we seem to know from the inside our minds… and then when we try to figure out how our minds exist in the world, how they could be a function of what's going on in our brains, it seems utterly mysterious." This is why we've never had a satisfying theory of consciousness, Dennett suggests. Not because we haven't thought hard enough, but because the very intuition we keep relying on that we have privileged, infallible access to our own thoughts may itself be wrong. Here he takes direct aim at Descartes. Descartes famously argued that while everything else could be doubted, the content of one's own conscious thought was beyond doubt. Whatever my thoughts are about may be false but what my thoughts are, and that they are mine? That, Descartes said, was the one certainty. Dennett's move is to reject precisely this: "Oddly enough, I'm claiming that he was wrong about that. The one thing he said was most certain I'm claiming that's not certain at all." We are, in some degree, fooled about our own minds. This isn't a claim that we're completely wrong about everything. It's a subtler and arguably more disturbing point: the seemingly undeniable intuition that we have transparent access to our own conscious states is, to some degree, false. We misread ourselves. We confabulate. The inner narrative we take for granted is, in part, a story we tell after the fact. Dennett spent his career making this case more formally, arguing that consciousness is less like a private theatre and more like a process of ongoing self-interpretation. Today, I called on all Kenyans to join me in prayer and reflection to put our country before God and beseech him to let unity prevail. Appreciating that it will take the collective strength of the people to rebuild and uplift our land I reminded the gathering that it is not individuals, but communities united, that forge a prosperous future. As I addressed the gathering, I emphasized that the past was now behind us, and it was time to focus on the present to safeguard the future. Our community, together with others across Kenya, must work hand in hand to ensure that our rights and aspirations as Kenyans are realized. We should aim to advance an agenda that guarantees dignity and opportunity for all, as envisioned by our president. Kenya is now more secure in terms of food supply, nevertheless our agricultural backbone still needs to be strengthened. I urged governors to prioritize registering farmers, distributing seedlings, deploying extension officers, and ensuring that coffee farmers benefit from the value chain. Additionally, I called upon our leaders and community members to embrace initiatives like SHA and Taifa Care which are designed to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all. I urged the clergy to encourage registration during church gatherings, so that more people can benefit from these life-changing programs. Reflecting on Shakespeare’s words: “Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.” Leading a nation as complex as Kenya is no small task. But I firmly stated by belief in the vision and capability of President William Ruto to steer this country to greater heights and his commitment to equitable development to ensure that no region is left behind. Together, we will build a stronger and more united Kenya.
