"One of those firearms, we are told, was equipped with a laser sight device. This has significance, because number one, that's a fairly sophisticated device for a handgun where when you aim it, a red dot goes where you want to target, and if you fire at that point, the bullet goes where the dot is. It's the kind of things used mostly by professionals, tactical people, military people."

Abuja hospital now offers LASER postrate treatment with no surgical cuts, patients go home same day Eleos Specialist Hospital, Abuja, has commenced Thulium Fiber Laser Enucleation of The Prostate (ThuFLEP) treatments/operations. The procedure involves using a special LASER technology which was recently introduced to completely remove the enlarged prostate without any surgical cuts to the body. With this new LASER, the enlarged prostate is completely removed no matter the size. It offers the advantage of no surgical cuts, little or no blood loss, with the patient going home either same day of the procedure or just a day after the procedure. The MOD has launched Project PANOPTES to deliver Directed Energy weapons for C-UAS in the Land environment. Although they say they are "open" to workable alternatives, de facto the requirement calls for a laser. The project is to develop through 2 phases: P1 will be a 2-stage downselections. P2 will start from the full proposal matured through P1 and Evaluate. Phase 1 is aiming for start November - December this year and last no more than 6 months. The requirements call for a system comprising of Passive RF detection, with the weapon capable of Continuous 100 KW power, with 150 KW peak. The solution must weight no more than 1,200 kg and fit on a 463L NATO pallet (2.74 x 2.24 m). Significantly, among the Standards data/messaging systems it must be integrated with, appears the Modular Integrated Protection System (MIPS), aka the MoD proprietary system for Active Defence of armoured vehicles. As the laser is being required to be "compatible" down the line with installation on suitable Uncrewed Ground Vehicles, you can see the underlying reasoning: MIPS, with its sensors (as we have seen on the AJAX BLACKJAX demonstrator, most notably) sees the incoming drone threat and tasks the accompanying laser with defeat. The kill must happen at ranges of at least 500 meters, to 1+ km ideally. The good: they are now looking for a significantly more powerful laser. The bad: the actual deployment of a laser capability on Land is being slowed down. In December 2024, then Minister Maria Eagle was still promising that Land Directed Energy Weapons would come into service in 2027, effectively on the back of project SWINTON. In June 2025 a Preliminary Market Notice for Land DEW was published. It was supposed to go to tender soon after to field a first few land lasers but, for all i know, it went nowhere. (Unless the MoD bought something from either Raytheon or EOS in secret) Project SWINTON, you might remember, demonstrated a Raytheon laser on a WOLFHOUND during the course of 2024, on the back of contracts signed in 2021. The SWINTON laser is a 15 KW system. It killed BQ-400 target drones at distances of up to 1 km. The palletized laser mount can fit on pickups. Targeting was delivered through the use of BLIGHTER A800 3D radar. PANOPTES wants a far more powerful laser with a similar footprint (and this is by now eminently feasible) but the negative part is that the wait to actually field something will be longer. Assuming this does make it to the field.

A road rage incident on I-75 has led to the arrest of Jordan Patascher, 29. On July 29, 2026, just before 6:30 p.m., #teamHCSO responded to I-75 southbound near the US-301 exit. Deputies learned Patascher threatened another driver and displayed a handgun during the encounter. As the investigation unfolded, deputies determined that Patascher had allegedly switched his license plate after the incident to avoid being identified. On July 31, 2026, Patascher was arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office in connection with this investigation. He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Driving While License Revoked (Habitual Offender).

On December 26, 2025, deputies from our felony unit were in the 2200 block of Buchanan Bay Circle doing surveillance of a homicide suspect so they could serve a DNA search warrant in a murder that happened on Christmas Eve. While deputies were surveilling the residence, two men – the homicide suspect and another man - came out and the second man opened fire on deputies, striking one of our unmarked vehicles. One deputy returned fire, striking the 20-year-old shooter. Deputies rendered aid until paramedics were able to get to the scene and transport the man to the hospital, where he is undergoing surgery tonight. He will face charges for shooting at our deputies. The suspect in our homicide case – who was also armed with a handgun – was detained and was being questioned by our detectives late this evening. As is our standard procedure, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting and will turn over its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for review. Once that process is completed, OCSO will conduct its own internal investigation. The deputy who fired his weapon is on temporary, paid administrative leave.

Shepard was already on felony probation for multiple burglaries and thefts. He was driving on a suspended license and had a fake urine device strapped to his groin. After deputies moved his handcuffs to the front, Shepard pulled the device out and tossed it onto the patrol car floorboard. Iconic broke behavior. ⤵️ Three women were removed from a Frontier Airlines flight in Miami after refusing to pay for an extra carry on bag, sparking disorderly behavior that forced the entire plane to deboard and delayed the flight by over an hour. As deputies escorted them off in handcuffs, one turned the walk of shame into a full twerking performance right there in the terminal…priorities fully intact. Not surprising in the slightest.

What I've been working on lately: Pasco County, FL, used a crude computer algorithm to "predict" who would commit future crimes--and then subjected their families to relentless harassment. They called it "Intelligence Led Policing." This is Robert Jones, one of our clients. His son landed on Pasco's list when he was just sixteen years old. Soon, the Pasco sheriff's office was visiting the family's home multiple times a week and at odd hours of the day, knocking on the doors, and peering into the windows. Deputies found excuses to issue fines for things like tall grass, and they found excuses to arrest Robert--arresting him three times in three months. Robert had never been arrested before. But he was arrested the day after Christmas because officers claimed to see a minor smoking a cigarette through the windows of his home; was arrested a week later for failure to appear for a code citation hearing (even though he did not receive notice of the hearing); and was arrested several months later for alleged possession of marijuana.

Remember when the El Paso airport was suddenly shut down earlier this year for "security reasons?" Well, we finally found out the full story of what happened. And it's incredible. The U.S. Army had a truck parked along the Rio Grande with a high-energy laser mounted on the roof, and two soldiers were using an Xbox controller to shoot down cartel drones. So to make sure no civilian planes were hit, they shut down the airport. But that's not even the coolest part. Right now, it costs our enemies thousands of dollars to make these drones, and our previous response has been to blow them up with $4 MILLION Patriot missiles. Remember when the El Paso airport was suddenly shut down earlier this year for "security reasons?" Well, we finally found out the full story of what happened. And it's incredible. The U.S. Army had a truck parked along the Rio Grande with a high-energy laser mounted on the roof, and two soldiers were using an Xbox controller to shoot down cartel drones. So to make sure no civilian planes were hit, they shut down the airport. But that's not even the coolest part. Right now, it costs our enemies thousands of dollars to make these drones, and our previous response has been to blow them up with $4 MILLION Patriot missiles. That math is NOT in our favor long-term. Those drones will drain our money and empty our weapon shelves before the real fight even starts. But this is game-changing: A single shot from the laser used in El Paso costs about 3 bucks! We just flipped the script on our enemies using an Xbox controller and a beam of light.

This could have been much worse. Last night around 8:20 p.m., JCSO deputies responded to a reported fire on Meyers Gulch Road. Multiple callers reported smoke and flames, with flames reaching approximately 20 feet. When deputies arrived, they found a shed on fire very close to a home. Deputies confirmed no one was inside the home, then used fire extinguishers and dirt to slow the fire and keep it from spreading to the house until Evergreen Fire arrived. Evergreen Fire took over and fully extinguished the fire. The cause remains under investigation. Thank you to the residents who called this in quickly, our deputies who acted fast, and Evergreen Fire for getting this fire out before it became something far worse. Evergreen Fire/Rescue

In 2017, Kent County deputies responded to a trailer in Gaines Township where Ortiz-Nieves had been left to care for several children under the age of 11, including Mejias. When deputies arrived, they found the boy "actively dying on the kitchen floor." An autopsy later revealed that he died from internal bleeding caused by an abdominal tear, an injury investigators determined could only have been inflicted by an adult. The autopsy also showed that Mejias had injuries to the top of his head, lower back, and buttocks, along with two broken ribs that were in the process of healing.

Last night, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office DFR (Drone as First Responder) pilots used RapidSOS live 911 monitoring to launch one of our unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as a drone, in response to a report of a suspicious person in the backyard of a residence in Sparks. The drone was airborne and on scene within three minutes of the call being broadcast to patrol deputies. Once overhead, DFR pilots began canvassing the area and relaying real-time information to responding deputies. Using thermal imaging in low-light conditions, the drone successfully located the suspect in the backyard of a nearby residence on Cromwell Place. Pilots continued to provide live updates on the suspect’s location and behavior, allowing deputies to safely detain the individual without incident. Further investigation revealed the suspect, identified as Ryan Davis, 38, had forcibly entered a residence and moved through multiple neighboring backyards prior to being located. Davis was arrested and transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on a felony charge of home invasion and an additional charge of trespassing. This incident highlights the outstanding coordination between patrol deputies and our DFR pilots, demonstrating how advanced aerial technology is not used for routine surveillance or to monitor lawful activity. DFRs are deployed for specific, time-limited public safety purposes—their use allows deputies to gain real-time situational awareness before making contact, often reducing the need for force and lowering risk to both the public and responding officers. This technology helps deputies make informed decisions, slow situations down, and choose safer resolutions whenever possible.
