I'm personally afraid of the coming 3-5 years for the economy and our society. The economy has become fragile amid global uncertainties. A sudden rise in gold isn't a signal of a strong economy; it's the exact opposite. Additionally, the rise in energy prices (in this case, oil) isn't a great signal and could lead to higher inflation. Batteries will never store enough energy to backup renewables. In Estimates I tried to get a straight answer on just how long the life of a battery is. Needless to say I couldnโ€™t get one. They can currently (in optimal conditions) provide a small amount of energy for 2 to 4 hours. This of course isnโ€™t long enough if the entire grid is to be powered by renewables. Longer term storage has to be provided by pumped hydro which requires the construction of enormous pumping stations powered by wind and solar. As shown by the Snowy Pumped Hydro, pumped hydro is not only ludicrously expensive, it is incredibly destructive to the environment. When pressed on just how much battery technology has improved, Matt Kean couldnโ€™t give a straight answer. I think it's going to take a very, very long time for that to happen, if ever. I think the days of free money are over. Why is that? I think the economy is moving into a more productive phase. It's one of the reasons the indices are at new highs, driven by AI. I think the economy is stronger than people think. I think the tariff issues will be gone by the end of the year, and that we settle into a 10 to 15% range. I'm very bullish on what's gonna happen in productivity, and I, I just don't see interest rates in the US, the world's strongest economy, being dropped dramatically.

From 2021โ€“2024, inflation under Biden peaked at 8% in June 2022 and stayed above 5% for two straight years. By the end of his term, overall prices were about 17% higher than in 2020. Mortgage rates rose from around 3% in 2020 to more than 7% in 2023, which nearly doubled the average monthly payment on a new home. Groceries increased by 20โ€“25%, gas prices topped $5 per gallon in many places, and household savings dropped from $2.3 trillion in 2021 to under $400 billion by 2024. During this time, wages grew about 4% a year, but because prices rose faster, real earnings fell for more than two years. In 2025, inflation has slowed to 2.9%, close to the Federal Reserveโ€™s target. Wages are rising 3.5โ€“4%, now ahead of inflation. The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which remains low by historical standards, and GDP is projected to grow about 1.9% this year. The S&P 500 is up about 15% year-to-date, consumer confidence has improved from 2022 lows, and energy prices are below their 2022 peak. From 2021โ€“2024, inflation under Biden peaked at 8% in June 2022 and stayed above 5% for two straight years. By the end of his term, overall prices were about 17% higher than in 2020.
