👀 An arm for Texas A&M Baseball in the SEC. Cooper Powell (Cooper Powell) touched 9️⃣6️⃣ MPH today for Padres Collegiate Scout in the Five Tool Collegiate League. The 5-11, 185-pound LHP averaged 93 MPH and hit 94 several times along with 95 once. Worked a slider at 84-85 MPH. Struck out 5 in 2 no-hit innings with one walk. Looks to have shown vast improvements year over year with a clean arm and pitchability. Repeatable delivery and the ball jumps out. Some run away to RHH but not afraid to go in. Ben Jacobs is coming up on top-100 prospect status, and he's had great success in his first seven pro outings. 26.2 IP 39% K 9% BB 3.24 xFIP .167 BAA A third round pick out of Arizona State, the southpaw possesses a strong four-seam fastball. From a low 5.4 ft. release height, he averages 19 iVB and 9 inches horizontal at 94 mph, creating an very flat -4.1 VAA. 43% whiff. Hard to find comps from the left side, Shota Imanaga and Logan Allen are the best fits. Jacobs' main secondary is an 83 mph splitter with a somewhat inconsistent movement profile, averaging 10 iVB of separation from the fastball. Poor -6.4 VAA, but ran a 45% whiff rate. Will need more consistent feel below the zone to maintain success. 19% usage. He throws two breaking balls, an 85mph slider (5/-5, 2400 RPM), and a more slurvy, 80 mph breaker (-6/-11, 2600 RPM). The spin capacity is solid but the secondaries lack adequate velocity. Breakers combine for just 20% usage. I think he'd benefit from splitting the curve into a true SSW sweeper and a more depthy curve. The release traits and fastball shape make Jacobs a very solid bet to be a back-end big league starter, but to improve the upside he'll need to lower his fastball usage and sharpen the execution, velocity and shapes of the secondaries.

Jacob Odle is one of the most underrated pitching prospects in baseball. From a 6'5" frame, he gets down to a 6.2 ft. release and -4.8 VAA thanks to a low arm angle. The four-seam is elite, averaging 97 mph at 17 iVB. The only big league comps are Eury Perez and Garret Crochet. A 14th-round pick in '23, Odle underwent TJ and missed all of '24. He wasn't super sharp in his '25 return (51.2 innings between CPX and A, 28% K and 18% BB), but that's to be expected returning from elbow surgery. The 22-year-old already has incredibly polished stuff, with an 88 mph slider at 5/-4 (42% whiff). He throws a sharp 83 mph curveball at -11/-8 (-9.2 VAA). The changeup also projects as a plus offering, distinct from the four-seam at 4/17 90 mph. The stuff is already Major League plus, but he'll need to be in the strike zone more consistently.

The now six-foot-five right-hander has already experienced the Junior Future Games (2023) and Super Sophomore Games (2024), and if all goes well this spring, he should be in consideration for this year’s Future Games team. Ranked 3rd in the state and 192nd nationally, Hicks has a frame that oozes projection with a quick, compact arm stroke into a three-quarter slot. He hides the ball well and has the arm speed that allows his fastball to get on hitters quickly. Some of his heaters run arm-side more than others, and the ones that do give right-handed hitters issues. The fastball has been up to 88.8 MPH on Trackman, and we saw that velocity upheld in-game during the fall tournament circuit. Hicks’ low-80s slider is a swing-and-miss weapon with late movement, and the two pitches are a strong foundation. This past summer Hicks paced all freshman arms with 95 strikeouts (24th among all pitchers) in 65.1 innings pitched. The 95 strikeouts from a freshman pitcher was the most since Blaine Harpenau’s 101 total in the 2017-2018 season. Overall, Hicks made 11 starts for the Eagles and went 6-2 with a 1.39 ERA and a .177 batting average allowed. Big things are ahead for this young arm. More on Brady ⤵️

OF Trevor Condon (Tennessee Baseball) was one of my favorite position players I saw in Jupiter. Collected 7 hits (1 XBH) and 4 RBIs across 5 games. Slightly undersized, but there's some impact (mainly to the pull side) packed into his frame. Wiry, athletic build at 5'11" and 175-lbs. Prototypical top-of-the-order table setter. Explosive and twitchy operation in the box with no-doubt plus bat speed. Feel for the barrel is there, high-level bat-to-ball skills. Controlled the zone well with polished swing decisions in my looks last week. Does tend to hit the ball on the ground, would like to see more line drives. Hit-over-power profile with some PS thump. Gets out of the box unbelievably quick, turned in 70-grade run times. Condon's tantalizing combination of speed and athleticism translates well to centerfield. He can really go and get it and has plenty of range, but if he can shore up his routes (take a more efficient, crisp path to the baseball) he has a chance to become an impact defender. The intangibles with Condon are a nice cherry on top. Advanced baseball sense; stole 2nd on a great dirt ball read, swiped 3rd on a well-executed shuffle lead. Incredibly high motor, plays with his hair on fire. Does not take a pitch off! Always involved, brings the juice! Like the Energizer bunny. Kind of a throwback player in that sense - it's clear he LOVES to play! Think along the lines of Sal Frelick/Slater de Brun (SDB better defender at this point with more of a physical, barrel-chested look). Top 2-3 round type for me this July.

Patrick Mahomes was not a finished NFL prototype in high school. He was a three-sport athlete at Whitehouse High School in Texas, and you can see the transfer on tape. Baseball shows up in the arm angles, velocity, and release freedom. Basketball shows up in the spatial awareness, body control, and ability to create when the play leaves structure. The production was real. Over 4,600 passing yards, 50 touchdowns, and nearly 1,000 rushing yards as a senior. But the more important part is the trait profile. Watch the deep ball placement off schedule. He is not just throwing it far. He is escaping pressure, changing platforms, and still giving the receiver a playable ball downfield. That still shows up on Sunday afternoons. When the pocket breaks, Mahomes does not lose access to the field. He extends, resets the angle, and delivers with placement. You also see the situational awareness. He draws the defense offsides, recognizes the free play, and immediately attacks vertically. That is command. The lesson is not that every quarterback should play like Mahomes. The lesson is that transferable traits matter. Multi-sport movement. Arm access. Spatial awareness. Off-schedule accuracy. Situational command. Talent was visible early, but the separator was how many ways he could solve the play.

INF Kodey Shojinaga (Kansas Baseball) is an intriguing Sophomore-eligible prospect. Was outstanding as a true Freshman and hit .378/.421/.526 with 11 2B, 6 HR, and 32 RBIs. Also slashed .326/.396/.349 across 11 games on the Cape. Shojinaga was named Co-Freshman of the Year in the Big 12 and earned a Team USA invitation. Medium build at 5'10", 190-lbs with some physicality in the lower-half. Slightly open front side in the box with a normal handset. Holds bat horizontally over his back shoulder with the barrel pointed slightly back. Medium-high leg kick, but the stride itself is small. Little bit of a bat wrap, but he's consistently on time. Average bat speed. Hit over power profile right now, but Shojinaga has an advanced feel for the barrel and plus bat-to-ball skills. Last season, he sported a 93% overall IZ contact rate. Approach is sound, but sometimes chases down/away. Does a nice job of using the whole field and working inside the baseball. Would put a 55 on the pure hit tool. Sound defender at 2B with above average arm strength and makes the plays he needs to make. He has quick hands and some range in either direction. Shojinaga also has experience catching, and got some reps behind the plate this summer for Team USA. Will be interesting to see what it would look like if he focused on catching - actions need refining, but the arm strength is there. Shojinaga will need to really hit, and he's capable of doing so. This July, he profiles as a 5th-8th round pick.
