The big magnetohydrodynamic reaction wheel seems to work well. Think that'll be good enough for a video, was a fun little build! Some _very_ rough calculations from an overhead view works out to 6.2 mNm of torque and 1.2 mNms of angular momentum.

Next version will need a few tweaks (thinner arms, and easier assembly of the spring), but I think this'll work!

I often do fast "exploratory" projects to see if it's viable for a video. Scoped to a few days, bashed together from stuff in the shop Often they fail miserably and get shelved. But sometimes it works out! This week's test: a metal field-emission electric propulsion prototype

Since this (very cool!) video is doing the rounds, y'all might enjoy this stop-motion I made a while ago: Metal cutting inside a scanning electron microscope

Playing around with ASIC render concepts. Need to work on visually differentiating the "active" module a bit more, but I think the bones are here.

Hard to describe the feeling of holding silicon in your hand that you've designed 🥺

Global placement animations are so fun to watch! The algorithm (RePlAce) treats transistor placement like an electrostatic problem. Cells are pulled together to minimize wire length, but overly-dense regions repel to improve routability

Related, if you haven't seen a monotype casting machine you're missing out. These things were like the ASML EUV of their day. Just outrageously cool machines. Entirely mechanical, but programmed and running from punch tape!

IT'S WORKING! 🥳 Program counts to 100 and halts. Uses ALU, registers, cmp, branch, unconditional jump, GPIO and immediates. And to get this far it also means the bootloader, SRAM and program counter are functioning too. I'm honestly shocked the thing works!

I made a liquid metal ion thruster so you don't have to ☺️ (it was very difficult 😩)
