Bengaluru: Five people have been taken into police custody after a group allegedly attacked GBA officials during Safe Footpath campaign in Shivaji Nagar. Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said alleged main instigator, Basavaraj Pudukote, will be arrested soon. Police will invoke Section 307 (attempt to murder) against all those involved. The minister said the attackers were "anti-social elements" & warned that strict action would be taken against anyone assaulting public servants on duty.

Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar said pedestrian encroachment clearance will continue across five municipal corporations, with 9,878 encroachments removed from 435 km of footpaths so far. The drive cleared 1,340 shop encroachments, 1,800 pushcarts, 2,267 tin-sheet extensions, 2,300 ramps/steps, 2,662 pillars/boards and 2,247 sheds. Bengaluru's footpath encroachment clearance drive continued across the city's corporations on July 8.
