People are always shocked to hear I’m only ~210 lbs fasted, but that’s actually an advantage as a competitor. Better to look bigger than you are than the other way around. I still have 15–20 lbs of muscle to add before maxing my weight class, but the muscle I do have is in all the right places. My joints stay tight, proportions are balanced, and the illusion of size comes from density and shape, not just scale weight. Staying lighter also means less stress on my heart and joints, better recovery, and easier preps. It’s not about chasing numbers—it’s about building stage muscle where it counts.

There is a ton of nuance when it comes to intensity techniques. Some movements lend themselves better to intensity techniques than others and maybe I’ll do a series on this in the future, but here’s a perfect example. Lateral raises lend themselves perfectly to employing partial reps to go beyond technical failure. Bodybuilding is spiritually about being hardcore and walking towards the fire - this is why I employ intensity techniques in my own training. Also a great way to teach newbies how to “go there” — rest pause sets especially. Lots more to say in the future!!
