"Absolutely inexcusable why Colorado would approve (Scout selling direct to consumer). The franchise model provides the most value for the consumer. So why a manufacturer would wanna pursue it in the first place just doesn’t make sense to me." Scout’s approval to sell direct in Colorado is raising new questions for franchise dealers. Josh Johnson, CEO of Don Johnson Auto Group, breaks down what this means for dealer-OEM relationships. Tesla’s direct-to-consumer model is leaving many drivers in frustration. Don Hall, CEO of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association, breaks down why the franchise system still protects the customer. "The truth of the matter is this: we live in your communities, we're part of your communities, we've been around for generations, and we give a damn about our communities." "The fact of matter is that Tesla's model is not a model that gives you the kind of buying experience that you're entitled to and should have." "With franchise system, you got a choice, and you got a lot of folks who will compete and will do whatever it takes to earn your business and trust." - Thank you to our partner Impel! Nobody wants to get a bad car deal. The new CARS rule, set to go in effect this summer, would require dealers to present final out-the-door pricing to customers upon request. But there’s a problem - It puts dealers in a tight spot if they don’t yet know the specifics of a deal. With $50,000 penalties for each violation, things could get ugly. Fast. Geoff Pohanka, Chairman of Pohanka Automotive Group and former Chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) shares his opinion on the proposed rule in <45 seconds.

"Dealers are taking $3,000, $5,000, even $7,000 losses per vehicle to sell through brokers — some are averaging a $3,000 loss on every car — and it’s decimating dealer profitability." Broker transactions are becoming a growing *flashpoint* in some markets. Jake Lebowitz, Partner/Dealer Principal of Raceway Kia and Paul Sansone Jr, Owner of Sansone Jr Auto Group, break down how some dealers are taking $3,000+ losses per unit to feed broker volume. " While they're out there on a test drive, the desk is starting to work the numbers. The desk is starting to structure deals, the desk is looking at what they've got and where they need to go, and they're just very, very prepared. When the customer walks back in the door, we're ready." Some stores are rethinking where the finance process begins. Chris Taylor, Owner of Certified Auto Brokers, breaks down the *shortcut* helping his team get numbers ready before the customer returns from the test drive. 20%. That’s how much more expensive a "quick lube" is than a dealership service center (according to Ryan Maher, a car dealer and the CEO of BizzyCar). But even though some quick lube shops are more expensive... Many customers still opt for them. Why? They're fast and convenient. There's a lesson in there.

" The biggest shocker to me is that consumers didn't care about savings at all. It was like out of the top four or five things, it was number five. People cared more about the time, the energy, the anxiety than anything else and most people said, based on the service, that if I saved them five grand, I could take half of it." Some car buyers are choosing to work with third party negotiators. Tomislav Mikula, Founder of Delivrd, explains why certain dealers still take the call to move deals faster without the usual back and forth. The police just might be parked in your driveway... Ford just patented newly developed camera technology that could turn all of their new cars into rolling police informants. Basically, they submitted a proposal to the US Patent and Trademark Office to equip new cars with cameras and sensors that could detect speeding violations of other drivers… But it wouldn’t stop there. The system could (in theory) then automatically share the data with local police. This Orwellian future is far from reality… But question remains if it would even be possible to prosecute moving violations without the presence of an officer witness.
