🚨🚁NC Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (NCHART) MIssion 🕑Yesterday, just before 2pm, your North Carolina Emergency Management's State Emergency Operations Center in Raleigh received a request for assistance from Avery County Emergency Management for a hiker that had fallen 50 ft. at Grandfather Mountain. NCEM quickly dispatched a North Carolina State Highway Patrol helicopter crew with NCHART Technicians from Raleigh Fire Department . 🚒The response on the ground included NC Mountain Rescue Team 1 from the Linville-Central Rescue Squad, an NCEM Area Coordinator, and multiple Avery County Fire Departments and EMS personnel. Crews hiked with equipment and medical supplies to the patient and prepared the patient for air extraction by NCHART. ⚕️Once the injured hiker was successfully brought aboard the NCSHP Helicopter, they were transported to a nearby landing zone, where they were transferred to a waiting medical chopper from Highlands Emergency Air Rescue & Transport. 👍These types of high skill, high risk rescues are not completed by chance. It takes hundreds and even thousands of hours of training by all parties. North Carolina is so fortunate to have such great resources like our Search and Rescue Teams, that are always ready to respond. Just one more reason we are a #ReadyNC!
