Relentless heat! The Heat Dome powering the #heatwave in #Florida, #Texas and across the #Gulf Coast will only grow in intensity over the next week! What you see, is what you get. Tropical humidity will spike Heat Index numbers in Florida to 105-110, Texas 110-120 today. With oppressive #heat persisting through late next week.

El Niño is born! Destined to be the biggest in 150 years +?? NOAA declares: El Niño Advisory This morning conditions in the Eastern Pacific met the criteria for El Niño. This means Sea Surface Temps reached a certain level above normal, and the ocean and atmosphere “coupled” meaning they are now working in tandem to produce impacts. This event is widely advertised by models to be potentially the strongest on record. El Niño takes very hot water stored in the deep tropical west Pacific, pushing it east and up to the surface, lofting that heat into the atmosphere, which supercharges weather events and throws the climate off-kilter. This typical means more intense heatwaves & floods, but also it restrains the Atlantic hurricane season. So its impacts are both good and bad. One thing seems virtually certain: the heat released into the atmosphere will make for some unprecedented events through 2027, and on top of longterm warming, the hottest global temperatures in many tens of 1000s of years. #ElNino #florida #storm #heatwave #flood #drought

Here we go again. Major #heatwave growing across #Europe this week into next week. Temps reaching 43C / ~110F in spots under a #HeatDome, peaking on Monday. The heat will impact Sevilla, Madrid, Paris, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, etc…

Just watch how gargantuan this storm is. I still can’t get over it. In terms of girth, it’s def in the top 5 that I recall. This will impact 2/3rds of the nation and half of the country in a big way. Longevity too, with us Friday-Monday! And the brutal cold that follows. 🥶 Disruption deep into next week! #Snow #ice #storm

A swing and a miss, but a rare break in Florida’s sweltering humidity by late week! The tropical moisture originally poised to hit Florida is being shoved towards Texas instead. That means, after a very muggy start to the week, very low humidity for summer arrives in Florida by Thursday. But it also blocks our downpours for a few days, delaying our #drought relief, for now. #florida #rain

No, your eyes are not deceiving you! Next week's cold blast is going to be “near” historic in #Florida for early November. The models are very aggressive and if they are right we may tie or break records set ~100 years ago. These are wind chills for Tuesday morning BUT it is not out of the question that North FL will see actual low temps near freezing next Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Fire up the fireplaces! You don't have one? You have a week to get it :)

This may be hard to believe given how cold it’s been, but the coldest air of the season is still to come in the Northeast this weekend. Wind chills to -30°F or lower Sunday morning. -20 in NYC!! Holy moly. #cold #winter #ArcticBlast #snow

When I look at this jet stream the word insane comes to mind. It's even more astonishing when you consider it's mid June! This configuration, likely enhanced by climate heating, is fueling a record heat dome so extreme that even experts are astonished!

#Hurricaneerin is hungry. It will feast on hot water up to 88 degrees. After using this heat to power its engine, it will dissipate said heat. Leaving a cool ocean wake in its path, ~10 degrees lower than it found it. The water cools not just due to heat absorption, but also overturning /upwelling, wind and rain.

Watch #Melissa meander on a path right through some of the hottest (deep) waters on the planet, powering one of the strongest hurricanes ever, then leave a cool wake behind as it turns hot water into power to charge its rain and wind. The #caribbean in October is notorious for monster hurricanes and Melissa literally moved over the hottest waters not just in the Atlantic but also in the entire Caribbean. How it ended up there is part luck, part climatology, and - in a local sense - partly that storms without steering can sometimes be tugged towards areas with the greatest heat/ instability. #hurricane #fyp #jamaica

The Arctic flood gates are opening up, as a strong & warm (relatively) block grows over Greenland. That warmth will shove the frigid Polar Vortex south, with multiple cold plunges in the batters box for the next 10-15 days in the Midwest, Great Lakes, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The chilly air will visit the Deep South and #Florida periodically too.

What if #Milton went 25 mi north? Disaster for #tampabay! Milton’s eye went south of the bay and winds on north side forced 2-5 ft of water out. Reverse surge. But landfall 25 miles north would have changed fate as 15 ft of surge would have funneled into the narrowing bay. WFLA NEWS

Can’t stop. Won’t stop. The models keep insisting on historic cold as the huge Canadian Polar Vortex pays the Eastern US a visit! A pool of record breaking cold 850mb temps and record breaking 500 mb heights (for early-mid Nov) will do a “fly by” Monday-Wednesday as actual surface low temps fall below freezing in the SE US, 30s as far south as Central-North FL!! 40s south of I-4, 50s deep into South FL. #Florida #ColdFront #Freeze #Snow #Winter

Some rare and remarkable processes are taking place this week, that we are not likely to observe for a long time! These 2 Atlantic hurricanes are closer than any since at least the 1960s. They are now connected - in each other’s orbit, pivoting. Stop 1. Notice the calm area at the pivot point between the two storms caused by sinking air. Stop 2. #Humberto dissipates and #Imelda cannibalizes its moisture and energy, passes over #Bermuda, grows, then heads out to sea. (2 hurricanes can NOT merge both as hurricanes. One must die or transition extra tropical first) Stop 3. Imelda meets a frontal boundary where it scales the front and is accelerated NE.

If you like cold and snow in the East, the pattern the next 2 weeks is text book! Watch as a Giant Greenland Block intensifies and retrogrades across the Canadian Tundra through the period, forcing cold air deep south and trapping it in the Eastern US. This pattern may even have potential for Southern ❄️ ! We’ll see. For the layman, (relative) warm blocking in the Arctic “displaces” the tropospheric Polar Vortex, forcing cold southward into the US. For the weather nerds out there, the high latitude block reaches 4.5 Standard Deviations / Sigma from the mean next weekend on the European model. Easily a record. It may not verify, but if it’s even in the ballpark, it’s on like Donkey Kong! Buckle up!!

A 180! After a record hot Christmas across the Middle & parts of the South, a New Year’s Arctic Blast promises a Deep South Freeze by New Year’s Eve. Gonna be quite the shock to the system, with 20s into North FL, 30s Central FL, and this one may actually reach far South FL with 40s! These are real temps. Wind chills will be lower. #florida #cold

Can’t say I remember a more impressive early cold season blast!! Early next week models advertise that temps will tumble 20 plus degrees below normal in the East, with freezing temps into the Deep South and 30s and 40s overtaking northern and central Florida. Meantime snow flakes will fly across the Great Lakes and Northeast!

This is the definition of compound, concurrent heat extremes! What you're looking at is the pressure pattern & wind flow at the 500mb level (5600 m, 18K ft). This is why Death Valley hit 129, the Med may hit 118, Iran heat index 152F and China hit an all-time heat record of 126.

Europe is having one of the most textbook Omega blocks in memory. A heat dome flanked by two strong storms. A true atmospheric stalemate/ traffic jam, dumping Epic rains in Greece. These split flow jet streams & extreme blocks are becoming more common esp in Europe 1/
