![*Long sigh* Here we go again. E-bikes. Or in this case, what are actually electric dirt bikes. Have you seen these two individuals? We know some of you are tired of hearing about this topic, but we’re determined to keep our community safe, and part of that means identifying the people putting others at risk. This video was taken yesterday around midday near Southlands Mall. One of our officers was patrolling the area when he spotted these two doubled up on what appears to be a modified electric dirt bike. These types of vehicles are not street legal in the City of Aurora and are classified as off-highway vehicles, similar to traditional dirt bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides. Only pedal-assist e-bikes are allowed on roadways and they must follow the same traffic laws as bicycles. These two were not. According to officers and security staff, the pair have repeatedly ridden recklessly through the Southlands area over the past several weeks. They’ve blown through stop signs and red lights, refused to stop for law enforcement and used sidewalks as their personal racetrack. As seen in this video, they eventually fled from officers onto a nearby path. One thing that makes this bike stand out: • The driver wears goggles strapped backward around the helmet • The passenger never wears a helmet • The bike is missing a front fender, which is unusual compared to similar bikes we’ve seen. This behavior creates a serious danger for pedestrians, drivers and everyone trying to safely enjoy the area. We wish this was rare, but incidents involving illegal and reckless e-bike riding continue to increase. Another reminder to parents: Know where your kids are riding. Make sure they understand the rules of the road and the risks that come with these vehicles. Ensure they are wearing the proper safety gear too- including a helmet. ![Did you see that? You might’ve missed it because the car was going 101 MPH… In a 35. Okay, Ricky Bobby. Our mobile speed cameras captured the moment this speed racer flew down the road. Officers contacted the driver shortly after and issued a summons for reckless driving. Let’s be clear. Speeds like this are never okay. Driving this fast puts everyone on the road at serious risk. Aurora streets are not Talladega. Slow down, pay attention and drive responsibly. Because when speeds hit triple digits, it’s not just reckless. It can quickly become life or death. ![Slow down, move over and yield for emergency vehicles. Oh, and please, please don't drive drunk. Yesterday afternoon just after 4 p.m., we had a scary moment for two of our officers. They were on their way to another scene at a local middle school where a fight had occurred, and one student was being threatened with a knife. These are the types of calls that necessitate lights and sirens. We need to get there to keep kids safe. But, our officers didn’t make it because 32-year-old Aurora resident Anthony Robinson got behind the wheel intoxicated and did not yield to our officers. As they were clearing the intersection at South Peoria Street and East Yale Avenue, Robinson T-boned our patrol vehicle, causing it to overturn onto two other vehicles. Robinson initially attempted to flee, but his vehicle wouldn't get him far. We found him less than a block away and took him into custody. Inside his vehicle we found an empty bottle of liquor and drug paraphernalia. We don't share this video for the scare factor; we share this video to remind everyone of how important it is to yield for our patrol vehicles. When you see lights and sirens activated, it's for a good reason. Thankfully, both officers were seen for minor injuries and have since been released from the hospital. Oh and the call they were responding to yesterday? We subsequently located and arrested the teen involved in the fight. Robinson was arrested on probable cause of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and driving without insurance. And a special thanks to those good samartians who stopped to help our officers, we are so grateful. This is why we pursue➡️🚨 Just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, District 2 officers, while on proactive patrol, spotted a Nissan Maxima near East Alameda Avenue and South Sable Boulevard. The car had no license plate, and the driver was wearing a ski mask. Both, immediate red flags. Officers attempted to stop the car…but of course the driver didn’t stop. That’s when the pursuit began.🚔 Within a matter of minutes, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a cluster of small trees near East Alameda Avenue and South Havana Street. The driver, 33-year-old Sean Wroblewski, revved the engine trying to flee again even though there was no way out. Officers gave commands to exit the vehicle. Wroblewski, out of options, eventually complied and was taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Accountability hurts sometimes. When officers searched the vehicle, it was a frenzy of stolen and illegal items. Buckle up because it’s an impressive list. ◾A handgun with a defaced serial number. ◾21 grams of methamphetamine. ◾Birth Certificates that were definitely not Wroblewski’s. ◾More than 35 suspected stolen credit cards. ◾About 50 fraudulent checks. ◾A large amount of stolen mail. This is why we pursue. This is why proactive policing matters. Because law abiding citizens don’t run from police. Because our community deserves better. Do you recognize this man? The Aurora Police Department is asking for the public's help identifying a suspect believed to be responsible for a series of overnight business vandalism incidents along the East Colfax corridor. Investigators believe the same suspect has targeted multiple businesses, throwing an object through storefront windows and glass doors before fleeing the area. Several businesses have been victimized, with some locations targeted more than once. The incidents have primarily occurred between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. along East Colfax Avenue, from the Dayton Street area east toward Florence Street. The suspect is described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, light-colored jeans and a distinctive black keychain hanging from the front waistband. These crimes have cost tens of thousands of dollars in damage to local businesses. We want to partner with our community to identify this suspect and hold him accountable. If you recognize this individual or have any information about these incidents, please contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). He sped through heavy, busy intersections attempting to avoid us and get away. When his car finally came to a stop, he booked it out of the vehicle. But APD? Can't stop, won't stop. Our officers were right on his heals and nabbed him in less than 25 seconds. Cory Thompson, 36, was subsequently arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft, felony eluding, criminal possession of a financial transaction device, possession of dangerous drugs and driving without a license. Shockingly, this wasn’t the first time Thompson had a run-in with APD. Dating to Christmas Day 2022, we’ve arrested Thompson SEVEN times. All seven of those arrests involved stolen vehicles that were either taken from members of our community or our neighbors in the Denver metro. Heck of a run, but not fast enough. Safety first, safety always. That's the Aurora way. We follow the data.➡️ After an 86% reduction in crashes at I-225 and Parker Road, we're applying that same strategy at I-225 and Mississippi Avenue, Aurora's second-highest crash location along a highway corridor. Today, our Motor Unit targeted the violations most often associated with crashes: speeding, traffic control violations and careless driving. New safety signs are also in place to encourage drivers to slow down and pay attention. By the end of the morning, officers had issued 22 citations. Our goal isn't to write tickets. Our goal is fewer crashes, fewer injuries and safer roads for everyone. A group of our PAR officers were working proactive patrol a few weeks back when they were alerted to a group of people on off-road dirt bikes, e-bikes and four wheelers traveling on East Colfax. Our officers found the riders and observed them doing wheelies, weaving in and out of traffic and quite literally ignoring any and all traffic laws. The group continued down Colfax, but officers lost sight of them due to their erratic driving. Our Real Time Information Center used city cameras to help track the riders. They were seen continuing to drive recklessly. The group eventually pulled into a gas station; unaware we were hot on their trail. When officers pulled in with their lights activated, the group ran. Five got away. One did not. 30-year-old Noel Loya Payan was arrested at the gas station without further incident. He is facing charges including careless driving, obstruction, prohibited use of an off-highway vehicle on a public roadway, weaving and failure to obey traffic signals. He also had a warrant out of Northglenn. This time it was adults treating our streets like their personal playground. But more often than not, it is juveniles. Teenagers riding vehicles they should not be operating and doing so recklessly on busy roads. It’s not just a nuisance to other drivers, it’s also illegal. Aurora city code already prohibits off highway vehicles like dirt bikes from being used on any public roads, trails, sidewalks or parks within city limits. Parents or guardians who knowingly allow minors to ride them in the city can face a minimum $250 fine. Whether you're 15 or 30, our streets are not a racetrack. Ride responsibly. ![Heck of a way to start a Tuesday. 🚨 While you were sleeping, patrol officers in two districts were dispatched to a home in the 2400 block of South Memphis Way for a report of an in-progress burglary. While en route, our officers learned that a suspect had previously kicked in the door to the occupied residence earlier in the night, and had now returned, trying to reenter the home, but couldn't... Maybe he started to panic when he heard our sirens approaching quickly. 🚔 What's worse is he was possibly armed with a shotgun. We got a vehicle description and attempted a traffic stop on the car, which was parked right outside the home. But that driver instead decided to flee. ➡️ After a short pursuit, our officers used a PIT maneuver to stop the car near the intersection of E. 6th Ave. and Nucla Way. Two people ran from the vehicle and one immediately surrendered at the vehicle. The driver, who was also the main suspect of the burglary, was caught after a foot chase that tested everyone’s cardio. The passenger who ran was also captured, but his route was considerably shorter. Yup, we got all three. 💪 The driver, identified as 33-year-old Anthony Mestas-Herrera, was wearing rifle plates and dropped both a shotgun and handgun when he ran from the car following the PIT. He was subsequently arrested for 2nd degree burglary, kidnapping, vehicular eluding and obstruction. He also has a lengthy criminal history to include 1st degree homicide, 2nd degree assault on a peace officer, drug distribution, multiple motor vehicle theft charges, and more. A safer Aurora, no matter what time of day or night. That's why we do this. Last week, APD officers tracking a stolen vehicle were attacked by several minor-aged criminal offenders. More than 20 rounds of gunfire were fired at our officers, prompting a multi-jurisdictional pursuit that traveled through portions of Aurora and Denver. Today, we are sharing some of the body-worn camera video from the incident. The Aurora Police Department commends the actions of our officers, as well as our partners from the Denver Police Department, who displayed the utmost poise and professionalism while responding without hesitation to a violent and life-threatening situation. Ultimately, four teenage suspects were taken into custody without a use of force. Several firearms believed to be used in the attack on our officers were also recovered. The suspects, aged 15 and 16, are not being identified because they are minors. They all have now been formally charged with two counts each of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, and one count each of aggravated motor vehicle theft and second-degree burglary, among other charges. #CommunityCommitment #APDInAction

![Turns out hiding under a trampoline isn't much of a plan when we've got eyes in the sky… Just before 11 p.m. last Friday, our officers received a Flock Safety alert on a stolen Hyundai Tucson traveling through Aurora. With real-time updates from our Real Time Information Center (RTIC), officers safely tracked the vehicle before deploying a Grappler to bring it to a controlled stop near Montview Boulevard and Iola Street. That's when everyone decided to make a run for it. All in different directions. But we had the manpower for that. Two juvenile passengers were quickly taken into custody after short foot pursuits. The driver had a different idea. After hopping multiple fences, he crawled underneath a backyard trampoline hoping officers wouldn't find him. Unfortunately for him, our drone was still watching. Officers immediately established a perimeter while RTIC and our drone team guided officers on the ground. Working alongside our K9 Unit, the driver was located and taken into custody without incident. A search of the stolen vehicle also uncovered a firearm and spent shell casings. The 18-year-old driver was arrested on probable cause of motor vehicle theft, obstructing a peace officer, second degree criminal trespass and driving while revoked. Two juvenile passengers were also arrested on probable cause including motor vehicle trespassing and obstructing a peace officer. Both also had outstanding warrants. From Flock alerts and the RTIC to the Grappler, drones, K9s and good old-fashioned police work, this arrest is another example of how technology and teamwork help our officers safely take suspects into custody and keep Aurora safe. Not your typical Jeep wave ✌️ Last week, two of our graveyard officers were on routine patrol in northeast Aurora near East Jewell Avenue and Harvest Road when they spotted a Jeep sporting temporary tags that actually belonged to a Ford. "It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em."👀 Behind the wheel was a very recognizable face one officer had encountered before. Kayla. (watch the video, you'll see what we mean) Kayla gave officers a friendly little wave 👋 as they drove by, likely hoping they had not noticed the fictitious temporary tags. Unfortunately for her, recognition works both ways. Familiar with Kayla and her history involving drugs and weapons, officers attempted a traffic stop. That is when she decided to test the power of solid radio communication and a couple of determined officers. Stop Sticks were deployed by another officer nearby, successfully deflating one of her tires, but she was not quite ready to call it quits. It ultimately took a PIT maneuver to bring the pursuit to a conclusion. Kayla was arrested for numerous charges including vehicular eluding, and officers located heroin and methamphetamine in her possession, adding drug charges to that list. Oh, and there were also five active warrants out for her arrest across four different jurisdictions. Busy schedule. 📋 It is the tools we have and the commitment of our officers that continue to impact crime and reduce victimization in our community. Nice work by everyone! 👏

A week-old baby, not breathing. Any parent’s worst nightmare came true for a new Aurora mom last week. She was already on the way to the hospital and happened to see one of our officers stopped at a red light at Colfax and Sable. She quickly ran up to his car pleading for help. It’s second nature for our officers to do just that. Help. He began life-saving measures on the infant, performing CPR for nearly five minutes until Aurora Fire Rescue arrived to escort the baby to the hospital. Let that sink in. Nearly five minutes of CPR. Throughout it all, he remained calm, communicating with the child’s mom in both English and Spanish and assisting as an interpreter once medics took over. Because of his quick response and composure under pressure, that baby is alive today. This is what it means to serve. Knowing what to do in those critical moments can make all the difference. We encourage parents and caregivers to learn infant CPR. Do you know the steps for infant CPR? For a choking infant under 1 year, deliver 5 firm back blows between the shoulder blades using the heel of your hand while supporting them face-down on your forearm, head lower than chest. If the object does not dislodge, follow with 5 chest thrusts. Repeat this cycle until the object is expelled and the baby shows obvious signs of life, or continue until help arrives. Always here, Aurora. And, always willing to help.❤️

🚨 We Need Your Help 🚨 Viewer discretion advised: The video attached shows a potential domestic violence situation and may be difficult for some to watch. Around 9 p.m. Wednesday, our MESH cameras captured a possible domestic-related kidnapping in the 1400 block of Emporia Street. The video shows a man and woman in a verbal confrontation before the man forces the woman into a maroon Toyota 4Runner with a roof rack. The 4Runner was last seen heading south on Emporia, then west on East 14th Avenue. Detectives with our Major Crime Homicide Unit are working to identify the man, the woman, and the vehicle. Detectives Seek to Identify Armed, Masked Person in Southwest Aurora #APDAlert Late Friday night, June 14, at about 11:45 p.m., two incidents occurred within minutes of each other in a neighborhood near S. Peoria St. and S. Parker Rd. Detectives are actively investigating these incidents and need the community's help to identify this person. Please read the incident descriptions below, watch the surveillance footage, and then submit any tips through MetroDenverCrimeStoppers. In one of the instances, a person dressed in all black with a full-faced white mask started knocking on the front door. The homeowner opened the door and was met by this masked person. The homeowner quickly closed and locked the door before the suspect could get inside. Thankfully, the homeowner was not injured. The other incident, captured on surveillance footage, shows the same suspect driving in front of the house in a dark-colored SUV. They then walk from around the corner dressed in all black and wearing a white mask. The suspect used a handgun to bang on the front door, but the homeowner never answered. A few things to notice in the video include the unique footwear of the suspect, the dark vehicle that pulls up along the street, and possibly a necklace or lanyard in view around the suspect's neck. Again, if you have tips about the suspect's identity, please submit them to Crime Stoppers. It is crucial to maintain a high level of vigilance in our community. Do not open the door for strangers. If you notice any suspicious activity, report it to law enforcement immediately, providing a detailed description for responding officers. Ensure the exteriors of your houses are well-lit, consider installing motion lights, and invest in a video doorbell or similar device that could help deter criminals. Remember, being a good neighbor means if you see something, say something.
