It is encouraging to see the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System moving steadily from planning to implementation, with the commencement of the postcode delineation model validation exercise across the country. As field mappers begin engaging communities and validating the digital postcode model, we are taking another important step towards delivering a smarter, more secure, and digitally enabled addressing system for every Nigerian. I commend the Postmaster General/CEO of Nigerian Postal Service, Tola Odeyemi, and the entire NIPOST team for the dedication and professionalism they continue to demonstrate in driving this important national initiative. Every validated address brings us closer to a future where emergency response is faster, public services are more efficient, businesses can operate with greater confidence, and innovation is powered by trusted location intelligence. I look forward to the successful launch of the Postcode System in October and to the transformational impact it will have as another critical layer of Nigeria's Digital Public Infrastructure.

It was an honour to speak at the Ai updates 2023 in the UK earlier today alongside other ministers of ICT. The summit is a gathering of global stakeholders including governments, leading AI companies, experts in research and civil society groups. As a nation of innovators and entrepreneurs, Nigeria must recognise the significance of Artificial Intelligence and the urgent need to explore and use it for the good of humanity. I would also like to thank the UK Government for inviting us to be part of the UK AI for Development Programme which will support our efforts to improve AI research and inclusive datasets. This partnership is a recognition of our commitment to the growth of AI in Nigeria as outlined in our Strategic Blueprint and evidenced by our initial launch of the National AI Research Scheme. #NigerianExcellence

Yesterday, I returned to my roots — Anglican High School, Quarry Road, Abeokuta — the place that shaped my earliest dreams. It was an emotional journey down memory lane, but more importantly, a chance to give back meaningfully to the next generation. To honour my alma mater, I launched the Bosun Tijani Fellowship — an annual programme that will support 17 students with: - ₦100,000 each towards their tuition - A brand-new laptop - New school uniforms But that’s just the beginning. I also adopted a one-storey classroom block housing four classes — which will be fully renovated, equipped with modern furniture and smart boards, to create an environment worthy of 21st-century learning. In addition, I have adopted the school’s science laboratory, which is currently empty, and will be transforming it into a well-equipped space for practical science learning. This is more than a gesture of gratitude. It is a belief that greatness can emerge from anywhere — and that with the right support, today’s students can build a future even brighter than our past. To every young person out there: your story matters, your dreams are valid, and we are counting on you.

At the World Bank Digital Summit, I spoke on why connectivity is not just infrastructure—it is economic strategy. When we connect human to human, machine to machine, and human to machine, we unlock the power to gather and analyze data at unprecedented scale. This insight is what allows us to solve pressing societal challenges—from public health to agriculture, education to climate resilience—in ways we’ve never been able to before. For Nigeria and many parts of the developing world, closing the connectivity gap is no longer optional—it is the foundation for inclusive growth, productivity, and innovation. It is how we transition from a country of potential to a nation that works for all. Yesterday, in Abuja, we launched the Nigeria AI Collective - a community of practice bringing together expertise from civil society, academic, tech, and other sectors working together to advance Artificial Intelligence in Nigeria and ensure its safe and ethical use, for the good of all in society. The collective is backed by several partners including Luminate who are committing $1.5million to support Nigeria’s effort towards developing our AI ecosystem.
