Miguel Angel Jiménez has one of the smoothest, most unhurried, and most effective golf swings ever put on display. Never a care in the world. He simply swings from the inside, lets it work over the top, and then strolls away from aces like he's competing in a Macarena contest. The beauty of Jiménez's motion isn't just that it works—it's that it's built to last. If you'd like to learn the classic over-the-top swing that's stood the test of time, check out my Classic OTT instructional video. Learn to swing with rhythm, freedom, and a move you can trust for a lifetime. Ben Hogan had a simple recommendation: finish every practice session by hitting 30 balls as hard as you can. There’s a reason. If you want to gain distance, you have to teach your body how to move faster. Once you’ve expanded your top speed, your normal, smooth swing becomes faster too—without feeling like you’re swinging out of your shoes. Don’t be afraid to let it rip in practice. Train for speed, then trust your rhythm on the course. That’s how you build lasting distance. 💥🏌️‍♂️

Ben Hogan once said, “The flatter my swing is, the fatter my wallet gets!” There’s wisdom in that. A flatter motion keeps everything moving around you—more rotary, more connected, more repeatable. When I work on flattening my swing, I feel my hips and shoulders turning on a more similar plane. The club begins to orbit instead of lifting and chopping. That freedom creates width, compression, and the kind of consistency you can trust under pressure. The classic players understood this. They built swings that worked when it mattered. My new Classic Swing Performance Academy, 3-Month class, begins March 4th. Enrollment is limited but there are a few spots left. Email christo@classicswing.golf if you’re interested in completely changing your swing for the better!

Ben Hogan’s left arm got closer to his chest as he turned through the shot. Instinctually, a lot of golfers “chicken wing” because they think they can hit the ball harder. But that’s not how serious compression is created. Pull in as you turn the corner, and keep that upper left arm tied to the chest. That’s where the speed, control, and compression come together. My upcoming Classic Swing Golf Schools are June 20–21 at Grapevine Golf Course in Texas and July 17–19 at Foxwoods in Connecticut. Email school@classicswing.golf for details.

Ben Hogan once showed the world on the Ed Sullivan Show how he could swing with both elbows connected to his body. It was a simple, powerful reminder of how the greats built their motion from solid fundamentals. Working on that same feel today can do wonders. It keeps the arms synced with the body, encourages a classic, repeatable strike, and—believe it or not—you can even hit balls this way. It’s a timeless drill that still delivers.

I see the golf swing as a three-piece movement: the backswing, the transition, and the downswing. The transition is where most golfers lose the swing. They rush from the top, jerk the club down with their arms, and throw away all the power they created on the backswing. That’s why I love the Pause Drill. By pausing at the top, you’re forced to start the downswing from the ground up, just as the great ball strikers did. It teaches the proper kinematic sequence while helping you develop a smooth, unhurried transition. I constantly remind my students that a great golf swing isn’t about moving faster—it’s about moving in the right order. Master the transition, and the downswing will take care of itself.

The sweetness of catching a pure blade right on the screws is hard to describe. These Miura Baby Blades are as pure as it gets. Miura Golf Early in my swing evolution, I made a decision that most people thought was crazy. I put away my oversized game-improvement irons and switched to blades. The result? My ball striking improved dramatically. Why? Because blades demand your full attention. They expose flaws, reward precision, and force you to develop better mechanics. Every shot matters. In a way, it was sink or swim—and my game got much better because of it. If you’re serious about becoming a better ball striker and learning the Classic Golf Swing, I’d love to work with you at one of my upcoming golf schools. For details and registration, email me at christo@classicgolfswing.com. One question… Are you a blade player, or do you prefer game-improvement irons? Let me know in the comments.

Blades are the true game-improvement clubs. Why? Because they demand your full attention. They require focus, precision, and a commitment to finding the middle of the face. When you know a slight mishit will let you know about it, your concentration sharpens and your strike quality improves. Those big, hulking, offset monstrosities allow your mind to wander—and that’s a dangerous thing in golf. Great ball striking starts with awareness. Get zeroed in. Get committed. Get Zen. If you’d like to learn the Classic Golf Swing and improve your ball striking, join me at my next Weekend Golf School on June 20–21 at Grapevine Golf Course in Texas. We spend two days building a repeatable, powerful swing, and we play 18 holes together on Sunday. For golf school information or private lessons, email me at school@classicswing.golf.

186 yard, 7-iron with a smooth swing. I’ve worked hard studying technique and this is what I’ve found to be the most efficient swing. It is an inside takeaway, a slight OTT move, and pull in as you turn the corner - smooth power. I’ll be holding a free webinar on the Classic Golf Swing, March 30th and 31st. The link is in the first comment.

What would you rate Ben Hogan’s pitching technique on a scale of one to ten, if you didn’t know it was Hogan? 🤔

Every golfer knows the feeling… you get to the top, you’re fully wound, and there’s that urge to hit from the top. That’s the Hit Impulse. The problem? The harder we try to fire our hands and arms early, the more we rob ourselves of sequence and compression. Power doesn’t come from panic — it comes from order. Here, I’m relaxing my arms as much as possible. Almost to the point of feeling passive. That softness allows my lower body to initiate, my legs to glide, and my core to unwind the club the way it was designed to move. When the arms stay supple, the body can dominate. It’s counterintuitive… but that patience at the top is what creates that heavy, compressed strike we’re all chasing. If you’d like to go deeper into how I train this and build a classic, body-friendly motion, visit my website for more information.

Michelle Wie almost made the cut in a men’s PGA event at 14 years old. I believe this swing did not need to be changed. What do you think? 🤔

So, now I can finally hit my pitching wedge 145 yards. Can you guess what I’m doing for 20 more yards?

Today everyone seems to be talking about getting shallow — but with an iron, I actually want a steep angle of attack. Most of my students come in too shallow! When you get the hands ahead and create forward shaft lean, it naturally steepens your AOA and gives you that crisp, ball-first contact the greats all had. If you’d like to learn how to strike your irons like the legends, come train with me at Classic Swing Golf Schools. 📧 christo@classicswing.golf
