⚠️ Highlands Ranch DUI Arrest Serves as Holiday Weekend Warning As we head into the holiday weekend, DCSO deputies are out in full force with zero tolerance for impaired driving. Last Saturday at Wildcat Reserve Parkway & Kingfisher Avenue in Highlands Ranch, a driver was clocked going 65 in a 45-mph zone and almost caused a major crash by turning directly in front of another car. 🚫 “Don’t Run, Brother” 🚫 Deputies responded to a theft Saturday afternoon at the Highlands Ranch Target and quickly tracked the suspects driving a white truck towing a camper trailer. “Our deputies don’t back down. If you steal from our businesses, we WILL find you and we WILL arrest you,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly. “We’re grateful for retailers who report these incidents right away.” Deputies monitored the suspects as they got onto C‑470. The driver exited at Yosemite, stopped, and tried to run. Deputies caught him in a nearby field where he apologized and asked “what was I supposed to do?” Our deputy responded, “Not run brother.” A second suspect fled toward Lone Tree. With help from Lone Tree Police Department, deputies found him hiding in heavy brush. He surrendered and was taken into custody. The truck jackknifed at the Yosemite exit after the suspects bailed out, damaging their own vehicle but no others. The driver is facing charges of Vehicle Eluding, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Obstructing a Peace Officer, False Reporting, Operating an Uninsured & Unregistered Vehicle, and Fugitive of Justice. The second suspect is facing charges of Obstructing a Peace Officer, Theft, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. *All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

#WantedWednesday Douglas County Animal Services is investigating an animal abandonment case and is asking for the community’s assistance. On December 29, 2025, a woman was captured on video arriving in the 9000 block of Ashleigh Place in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She arrived in a white SUV and was seen releasing a black and white cat from her vehicle before leaving the area. The cat was later captured on Ring camera footage nearby. Animal abandonment is a serious offense, and cases like this rely on the community to help bring accountability and protect animals who cannot speak for themselves. The driver didn't stop when we tried to pull him over. He drove recklessly until we put an end to his eluding. He tried to run from us, but it didn't work out for him. He went to jail and faces charges of motor vehicle theft, eluding, drug possession, reckless driving, and obstructing a peace officer. DANGEROUS MOTORCYCLIST TAKEN OFF THE STREETS The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t play when it comes to traffic safety. We’ve heard your complaints loud and clear! Dangerous motorcyclists putting lives at risk will not be tolerated. On May 15th, a reckless rider turned a high-crash corridor into his personal racetrack. Now, he’s behind bars. At PM, Deputy Vincent with our Traffic Unit spotted a white and orange sport bike speeding 67 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on University Blvd. When he attempted to stop the rider, the suspect intentionally fled, weaving through traffic, and even using the bicycle lane to pass vehicles (including another deputy) at high speed. Deputies Montgomery and Brown coordinated quickly, blocking the suspect at a red light, removing the rider from the motorcycle. Brandon Watts, age 40, from Denver was taken into custody without injury to deputies or damage to vehicles. He is now facing charges of Felony Eluding, Habitual Traffic Offender, No Insurance, Unregistered Vehicle, Obstruction, Reckless Driving, and he had Multiple Active Warrants. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is initiating the vehicle forfeiture process to seize the motorcycle used in this criminal activity. If you use a vehicle to commit crimes - especially to flee from law enforcement - you risk losing your ride. “Let this be a warning,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly. “If you run from us in Douglas County, there are consequences, and one of them might be forfeiting your vehicle.”

Not in Douglas County! 🚫🚔 You can run, and you can try to hide, but we will find you. Earlier this month, an alert deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle in the King Soopers parking lot on S. Quebec Street. The car was parked in a handicap spot with expired temporary tags (April 2024). The vehicle had been flagged earlier that day for running from police in another jurisdiction. One person was detained immediately, but two men…both Aurora residents…decided to take their chances on foot. It was all hands on deck to ensure they didn't get far: •Patrol Deputies established a tight perimeter. •Drones provided overhead surveillance. •K-9 Rudy, our IMPACT unit and our Traffic team conducted a ground search. One runner was caught quickly near a local business. The second suspect led deputies on a search through a nearby residential neighborhood. Thanks to vigilant citizens who pointed the way, deputies located the suspect hiding behind a first-floor balcony and safely took him into custody. The primary suspect was found to have multiple felony and misdemeanor warrants, including charges for burglary, stalking, and forgery. All three now face charges of obstruction. Great work by the entire team and our community for keeping Douglas County safe!

You really don’t know what a day on patrol will bring at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. 🦘🚓 DCSO deputies recently responded to a call no one had on their bingo card—a kangaroo on the run in a Highlands Ranch neighborhood. Turns out the suspect was Charlie the Wallaby, who is very much a real wallaby and very well known (yes, he has his own Instagram). Everyone was safe, Charlie made his way home, and the story immediately became one for the books. As one of our sergeants put it: “I’m not going to lie, this is going to be the highlight of my year…” From routine calls to the unexpected (and occasionally adorable), our deputies are always ready—no matter what hops their way. 💙

Wrong-Way Driver Arrested on E-470 A deputy was headed into work on E-470 near Parker when they observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Due to the median barrier, the deputy was unable to get behind the car but observed the driver swerving through oncoming traffic. Another deputy was quickly dispatched to the area and intercepted the wrong-way driver. During the initial traffic stop, the driver appeared to try to evade the deputy. The driver then conducted a U-turn to face the correct direction on E-470 and pulled onto the right shoulder. The driver was arrested on the following charges: •Reckless Endangerment (M2) •Driving Under the Influence (DUI) (M) •Driving on the Wrong Side of a Divided Highway (TIA) •Driving While License Under Restraint/Suspended (TIA) Excellent observation and quick coordination by our deputies helped prevent what could have resulted in serious injury or worse to other motorists.

Instead, share your photos or videos here and let the community know where you’ve seen bears popping up so everyone can stay informed. (This video was taken by our Swings A Team.) If you encounter a bear, give it plenty of space and make lots of noise so it knows you’re there and can move along. Most bears want to avoid people. Standing Firm in Our Mission: A Message to Our Community The recent decision by Governor Polis to grant clemency to Brandin Kreuzer, a violent convicted felon, has brought a profound wave of emotion to our agency. Sheriff Darren Weekly said, "The timing of this announcement, on National Peace Officer Memorial Day, feels like a direct disregard for the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers every day." The gravity of the incident in question remains a daily reality for the deputies who survived the shooting and the community that was terrorized by his violent crime spree in 2008. Retired Lieutenant Todd Tucker, who was shot by Kreuzer and critically injured, expressed the deep impact of the Governor's actions: "I cannot adequately express the anger, disgust, and profound disappointment I feel over Governor Polis’ decision to release a violent convicted felon who has not even served half of his sentence. This decision is an insult to me, my family, and every law enforcement officer who risks their life every single day to protect their communities...Governor Polis’ decision sends a dangerous and demoralizing message: that the attempted murder of a police officer no longer carries the weight or accountability it once did. It tells violent offenders that even the most serious crimes can eventually be excused or minimized through politics." Corporal Mike Adams shared a sobering reminder of how close this tragedy came to being fatal, and the lasting scars it leaves behind: “For the Governor to grant clemency on National Peace Officer Memorial Day is a slap in our face and every law enforcement officer that puts on this uniform every day and for those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about this incident. If it wasn’t for that windshield stopping that bullet, the first round they shot at me, dead center of the windshield, it would’ve struck me in the face. If that windshield would not have stopped that bullet, I would not be standing here today speaking to you, and my boys would be growing up without a father. It is just appalling that the Governor would grant clemency to someone who tried to kill two police officers. Deputy Todd Tucker still has to live with his injuries to this day.” Our Commitment to You Will Not Waver While we are deeply disappointed by this profound error in judgement by the Governor, which we believe was based on faulty information, it will never change who we are or why we put on the badge. Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. I am so proud of my deputies who responded quickly and didn’t give up until this suspect was in custody.”

Douglas County Deputies Assist in DUI Pursuit with Successful Grappler Deployment In the early hours of October 4, 2025, at approximately 4:22 A.M., Douglas County Deputies responded to assist the Aurora Police Department in pursuit of a suspected DUI driver traveling westbound on E-470, passing Gartrell Road. Douglas County deputies responded immediately and set up two sets of stop sticks along E-470 in an attempt to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion. Despite these efforts, the suspect vehicle continued westbound. A Douglas County Deputy, operating a patrol vehicle equipped with the Grappler device, joined the pursuit along with another deputy. After positioning behind the suspect, both maneuvered to the front of the pursuit. The suspect vehicle, which struck the concrete barrier multiple times, was ultimately stopped when our deputy successfully deployed the Grappler just west of South Quebec Street. The vehicle was brought to an immediate and controlled stop. The suspect was compliant and taken into custody by Aurora Police without incident. Sheriff Weekly said, “I am proud of the seamless coordination between our deputies and our partners at APD. This incident highlights the power of innovative tools like the Grappler. By effectively deploying cutting-edge technology, we’re able to bring dangerous situations to a safe conclusion while minimizing risk to the public. Douglas County remains committed to staying at the forefront of law enforcement tactics that enhance safety and effectiveness in the field.”
