Other things I saw today: this pilot tried to land 3 times before giving up, poor guy. Aircraft passed 800 hours logged time. Saw a big burn scar near KCPU, and some big storms brewing over the Sierras.

Sad to hear Wally has gone west. I remember watching NS-16 and when the capsule was decelerating at Max g loading she was whooping and cheering while everyone else was silent.

A lot of the news stories talking about the uncommanded A320 dive talk about losing 100 feet over 10 seconds. That really doesn't sell the suddenness of this pitch down. It essentially performed a zero g dive for a second then pulled out at about 1.4g.

One last observation - during hot staging the booster velocity drops rapidly for a moment, this is faster than can be explained by gravity. If this is accurate the booster had negative g loading for a moment, possibly lifting propellent off bottom of tanks. It's very short, but still a bigger deceleration than I expected

Here's the reconstruction of the view from AA472 based upon the last few minutes of data. It had been switched from RWY1 to RWY33 to help with traffic flow, the Helicopter was instructed to avoid the airliner and reported traffic in sight. It's very likely they were looking at the wrong plane. Crew of jet would not be able to see helicopter and the proximity warning systems were less reliable with the older transponder design on the helicopter.

Recreated the flight of N257BW which crashed as it returned to KSVH minutes after takeoff, it looks like it had performance issues and then ran out of energy on final approach to landing. Sad to hear this was Greg Biffle and his family.
