37% of new trucks in China now electric. And they're not just the little ones... This is (I think) 49 tons - bigger than allowed in UK and Europe. This was at one of hundreds of battery swapping stations which give them 550ish kWh in about 5 minutes. This sort of thing is very bad news for diesel, so of course you'll see a lot of the usual histrionics from oil lobbyists and their acolytes, but it's real, it's cheap, they're powerful and they're probably inevitable.

Sneak peak... So our incredible R&D team in Portadown have been beavering away and we'd love around 10 guinea pig customers to trial Cosy Cooler (slightly paradoxical code name but it alliterates nicely!) Essentially, a cooling add on for the Cosy Heat Pump. Probably the most requested feature we've had, for obvious reasons... We'll miss this Summer but hope to be properly available next Summer.

I met Craig, the first Octopus Cosy 9 Heat Pump customer in Yorkshire, at The Energy Tech Summit. He has solar panels & battery, heats his home with the heat pump, charges his electric car at home - and drives 12,000 miles a year. And pays nothing for his energy. With solar to generate his electricity, battery to shift it to the evening & sell it to the grid, and a smart tariff to optimise all his electricity. This is the sort of stuff the fossil fuel industry know is coming and its one reason you see such vitriol. Of course, we'll still use fossil fuels for many years - but by ditching petrol/diesel and gas, people like Craig are living the cheaper, cleaner future and we shouldn't allow incumbency to slow it down.

And.... winner time! John Simpson Wins on X... with Samrita on Insta Congratulations John :). and hundreds of plushies going to runners up.... Interestingly - 58% of the entries on X were correct, and 38% on Insta. There was a slight trend of increasingly correct answers towards the deadline as a few boffins posted helpful tips! Thank you all - this actually started off as a service fail where we'd got it wrong for a customer, and I thought it'd be interesting to share the challenge. We looked after that customer, of course - but this blew up and was great fun... thank you all 🐙❤️🎇

Deadline extended to midday Saturday because we have a new clue! I got asked a LOT of questions about why the dials go in alternating directions so I asked our white coat boffin, Philip Steele . He phoned our engineers and found one that had just been taken off the wall and took it apart... So - have a watch, marvel at the mechanical beauty, see if it gives you any new ideas - and answers Saturday! Oh yeah - and this seems to have got big on X and Insta so 2 winners up for grabs PLUS it's had a lot more entries than I expected so we'll do lots of runners up prizes of Octopus plushies :)
