The Belt Squat gets some praise, but I still think this thing is an S-tier quad AND an S-tier glute station. Def put it above pendulums & hacks, personally. Plus, taking the strain off your spine (aka reduced axial loading) is just another MASSIVE benefit. The only issue that might be legit for some is that the belt can chafe. I train lighter with controlled eccentrics though, so it never digs into me too bad.

People are always shocked to hear I’m only ~210 lbs fasted, but that’s actually an advantage as a competitor. Better to look bigger than you are than the other way around. I still have 15–20 lbs of muscle to add before maxing my weight class, but the muscle I do have is in all the right places. My joints stay tight, proportions are balanced, and the illusion of size comes from density and shape, not just scale weight. Staying lighter also means less stress on my heart and joints, better recovery, and easier preps. It’s not about chasing numbers—it’s about building stage muscle where it counts.
