New library almost done, can't wait to fill it with all my books 🥰 I've designed and built lots furniture in the past but this has been the most complex and challenging by far. In the past I have mostly worked with plywood. For this project I wanted to build out of solid oak and use Japanese joinery techniques. I don't have time to fabricate complex projects these days, and I wasn't confident enough in my woodworking skills. So I collaborated with a local carpenter. This allowed for so many more interesting design details that I wouldn't have thought of myself. Whatever your furniture needs are, consider being a patron of your local carpenters, cabinetmakers, and woodworkers. Yes it's slower and more expensive than going to IKEA but the process is much more rewarding, and the results will be more unique and long lasting.

Knap is open source. Over a million people already use Knap directly or indirectly because it started as the templating language I made for Obsidian Web Clipper. Now any tool can use it. You can add Knap to your app or use it via CLI. Create a batch of Markdown files from JSON or CSV, or pipe Defuddle directly into Knap to generate Markdown from HTML/URLs. The Knap site is color-coded to help beginners understand the relationship between variables (blue), filters (orange), and logic (green). I've tried to document it as comprehensively as I can. Try the Knap Playground so you can see how fun the syntax is to use! Knap is pronounced /knæp/ (with a hard k). It's named after knapping (with a silent k): the process of shaping stones to form arrowheads, scrapers, and other tools. Enjoy!

We're entering the stage where robots can do the robot dance and it's recognizable as a joke. The emulator emulates past emulation. In other words, the robot dance is transitioning to a form of historical preservation. The equivalent of a Renaissance fair performance. It's a recurring cycle: 1. A new technology emerges that attempts to emulate human behavior. 2. The failure to perfectly emulate humans gives rise to a vernacular based on the uncanny feeling of that emulator, e.g. the specific stiffness of robots. 3. Humans emulate the emulator as a form of entertainment and commentary, e.g. humans doing the robot dance. 4. Technology crosses the uncanny valley, it acquires lifelike behavior. The emulation becomes realistic. (We are here now!) 5. The vernacular of the emulator survives as a form of historical reenactment. There are many examples of this phenomenon e.g. Pinkydoll the "NPC streamer" or a musician like JD Beck who drums with the feeling and precision of a drum machine.
