Events like this are rare, but not unusual. SAMs are not designed to hit ground targets. When something goes wrong, they can unfortunately come down unpredictably. Now here’s where it gets interesting. Did you know that, in the past, one of Bahrain’s neighbours looked at a SAM… and tried to repurpose it to hit ground targets? Not an accident. You don’t see this every day. A B-52H from Barksdale AFB suffered a drag-chute malfunction in December, deploying mid-flight and trailing over NAS JRB Fort Worth before being safely jettisoned. The BUFF returned to Barksdale without incident. Rare to witness and even rarer to catch on camera. Via KP’s Aviation Photography (FB).

Roman Bilobryukov, a Ukrainian Mi-8 pilot credited with downing 132 Russian UAVs (as of May) in just two anti-drone rotations. Technically, that makes Bilobryukov the highest-scoring flying ace of the 21st century!
