Events like this are rare, but not unusual. SAMs are not designed to hit ground targets. When something goes wrong, they can unfortunately come down unpredictably. You don’t see this every day. A B-52H from Barksdale AFB suffered a drag-chute malfunction in December, deploying mid-flight and trailing over NAS JRB Fort Worth before being safely jettisoned. The BUFF returned to Barksdale without incident. Rare to witness and even rarer to catch on camera. Via KP’s Aviation Photography (FB).
