I reverse engineered Apple's thermal logo effect. It’s a Three.js shader that combines 4 inputs: - A video texture heat map - A mouse-driven heat map - An Apple logo mask - A thermal-style color palette Explanation below

woke up last night to write down this idea for a fluid navigation bar thing that uses variable font width and weight to signify selection state. it feels very fun to play with and squish around

Here’s a little sneak peek of something I made for Patina Systems’ first product 🤫 This is a search bar that lets you take action on certain detected tokens. When we detect one, we “bloom” a halo around that word. When you delete, it leaves a trail. It feels SO cool.

While testing WireView, I noticed something in the Linear app I hadn’t seen anywhere else: it detects if the screen is being captured or mirrored in some way and it automatically shows touch dots. Even supports multitouch! Could be a useful debug thing to add to your own apps

Heat accumulation works like this: - Mouse movement adds heat to pixels under the cursor - Each frame multiplies all heat values by decay rate (0.95 = lose 5% per frame) - New heat gets added on top of existing heat - Values < 0.001 are clamped to 0

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge? It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

I built Light Touch, a full-featured iPod touch 2G emulator for Mac. Networking + Wayback Machine proxy, GLES/3D games support, a built-in app store via rotation, screen capture, the works. Have fun

Introducing WireView, a new tool for the iOS developer workflow. It’s primarily for me but you can have it, too.

here’s something I don’t think I’ve ever seen before: the complete design demo harness for the new Siri UI (“Campo”) is sitting dormant in the framework responsible for rendering it. So if you push the right buttons, you can mess around with Apple’s own prototyping tool!
