Mitochondria make light inside brown fat cells during cold thermogenesis. Some of that light is in the UVB range, and it converts cholesterol into previtamin D. Every red light photobiomodulation (PBM) helmet for hair regrowth works too damn slow, because it they all use wavelengths that fail to target hair follicles. The 660nm wavelength never reaches the follicle, because it is absorbed in the dermis. The 880nm bypasses the follicle, because penetrates further down. The wavelength that best targets human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) is 730 nm, which is exactly the NIR wavelength tat dominates the shady forest, and researchers in Hong Kong had to design a custom device for their lab just to prove it (Cho et al. 2026). The ideal PBM device for regrowing hair would have 532 nm for the epidermis & dermis, 660 nm for the dermis, and 730 nm for the hair follicle. There is only one such device that fits that description under development anywhere, and if you want to test it for yourself, you must buy it from Morozko.

Mitochondria produce biophotons that make pre-Vitamin D from cholesterol inside your cells. I always thought the VitD would stay there, so there was no increase in blood serum levels of calciferol. For these 15 Polish women with MS, I was wrong. Both the MS-diagnosed patients & controls experienced an increase in blood serum levels, but the MS patients was huge compared to controls.

You have "sunshine" inside your body. Dr. Alexis Jazmyn explains this well. When cold activates brown fat, the mitochondria produces light called biophotons inside the fat cell. Although this light is called "ultraweak" the tiny scale of the cell places the UVB source adjacent to cholesterol and converts that cholesterol to previtamin D. That's how MS patients in Poland boosted their blood serum Vitamin D through whole body cryotherapy alone. Cold compensates for the dark winter when there is no UVB in the sunshine. Also... that's Joel Salatin who wrote "Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal" about polyculture farming over 30 years ago. I first read it in the mid-1990s and it shaped my research in sustainable agriculture. Therapies that target mitochondria treat autism. Magnesium, L-carnitine, Co-Q10 all support mitochondria. Richard E Frye MD/PhD has success with leucovorin (Rx-folate). He wrote about one child diagnosed with ASD who improved so much, he no longer meets diagnostic criteria.

All sex hormone synthesis originates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where an enzyme called P450scc cleaves a hydrocarbon chain from cholesterol to form pregnenolone. That means same cholesterol your physician (erroneously) says will kill you is what your body uses to make testosterone. Moreover, P450scc absorbs light. Why would an enzyme that acts inside the mitochondria respond to a blue wavelength of light that can never reach that far inside the body? Because the blue light that energizes P450scc is coming from inside the body. It is produced by the mitochondria itself. The implications of this understanding are massive. To maintain high sex hormone levels as you age, you must have high levels of LDL cholesterol and healthy, active mitochondria. Cold plunge therapy not only stimulates mitobiogenesis for production of new mitochondria, but also creates light -- e.g., inside brown adipose tissue (BAT) -- that energize the enzymes responsible for steroidogenesis.
