Development is a calculated plan! And I LOVE the off season training. Here is 2023 2nd RD Pick Blake Wolters. To start~ Knowing where they are, what their timeline is (MILB’ers/HS/College) and what their goals are, is huge and necessary to begin. Without Divulging into everything we did, here is a bit about it as you physically see the change. What Blake needed 2.5 years ago was a plan, and a direction to attack his plan, and he did a tremendous job. What he needed was a strong front side, General Strength and a throwing Program, all of which was brand new to him. What to notice, you have a young pitcher who fills up the zone with mechanics that absolutely kill body awareness and Repeatable movements. That’s how you can tell the Immediate changes will cause immediate results velocity wise, and mentally is easier to focus on the process when the results improve. General strength was a breeze to Program. ANY Good throwing program Requires a well planned, thought out, and executed Strength program to work side by side. Every lift was based around Throwing/ Pitching all year. The volume and intensity of lifts and throwing consistently changes in order to promote the most growth possible, these are calculated changes. The Throwing Program is something the players have to perform, but not only perform but believe in. If you don’t believe in something you will not grow. (Using Pulse is a tremendous way to teach and create a feel for the body). Volume and intensity is the only thing that I like to really control. For players, learning a routine is key, especially applicable Plyo ball/ Med ball Routines are huge. Throwing programs are essentially the tip of a triangle, and are not working to its best ability if working alone. Throwing programs are 12 months long, they are not strictly for the off season. Now, as a Professional his training has varied tremendously as the development of the change up and shape of the fastball have taken a considerable amount of priority. This is where trackman and edger take serious precedence, to master the already elite craft. Working on creating an Outlier Pitch/Arsenal 2.5 years ago would have been a waste of time, because it was 81-84. Now, it will help increase the ability to perform through the Org. Every timeline is different, every situation is different, every Player’s routine is different, and every player is coached differently. Blake worked harder than anyone I’ve seen, and TRUE and CALCULATED hard work will show results “How can we attack the ZONE with our best stuff” “ Did I check every box today” Below, you will see corrective’s using the above methods.
