🔶 Blender Tip: A quick way to get an even distribution of quads is to use the Relax Slide sculpt brush while pressing Shift. It doesn’t change the mesh’s form, it just rearranges the vertices!

I like to use the compositor in Blender to make the viewport render look more beautiful. For my more recent characters, I added: - Bloom (Glare) - A white outline (Dilate/Erode) - Diamond sharpen (Filter) These can really improve the visuals a lot, depending on the character!

Here a trick for eye shadows: Add an edge where the eye shadow should start and separate that part in the UVs. That results in a nice, sharp shadow, that you can easily adjust with a shapekey! Usually that area is pretty awkward to paint, so this method works great! Here🔽

🟢Substance Painter Tip: Often, instead of using the symmetry mode, you can use the Mirror filter. It's less buggy and very helpful when you accidentally forget to enable the symmetry mode. It also allows you to mirror other filters, patterns, etc.! Note that it mirrors in UV space, not in geometry space. So there are cases where you cannot use it. You might want to keep that in mind when working on the UVs.

E.g.: The Blur filter operates in 2D space, which can cause visible seams at the UV island borders. A fix for that is to add Paint above the Blur and use the Passthrough blend mode. Passthrough allows you to smudge the output below it. Works the same for standard layers!

Example: You have a shadow layer and want to add an outline around it. Instead of repainting the outline every time you change the shadows, use an Anchor Point: 1. Add an Anchor Point to the shadow layer 2. Add a Fill Filter for the shadow outline layer 3. For the Fill grayscale, select the Anchor Point 4. Add a "Mask Outline" filter 5. If you paint new shadows now, the outline will adjust automatically!

🔶Blender Tip: Some brushes (Inflate, Grab) can cross the symmetry line while others (Draw, Clay, Blob) can't. That makes the Inflate brush really useful when working close to the center (e.g. between the legs) or for body parts that are pressed together, especially if you retopo later. Just be careful since it can create messy intersections at the center.

Finished the eye. Looks alive now :D I kept them simple so they match the overall style. I think the head done now. I enjoy doing the head and hair the most, but I want to get better at clothing, so that's what I will focus on for the next few weeks.

🔶Quick Blender tip: It's super easy to model clothes that wrap around the body using the Shrinkwrap modifier. It handles the wrapping automatically, so you just need to extrude the clothing. Works even better together with a Subdivision modifier #blender #3DCG

I made the design more asymmetrical by adding a ribbon on the right and having more hair on the left (for balance). Makes it look less bland! Not sure about the outfit yet 🤔 WIP~
