This might be the funniest event at the Robot Games 😂

You can now use your old Android phone as the brain of a bipedal humanoid robot. UCLA researchers built PhoneBot a 48 cm robot with 13 motorized joints. The phone handles vision and walking control. It can walk track people and stand back up. Hardware costs around $400, excluding the phone.

Open Duck Mini V2 is a 42 cm open-source robot duck with a parts budget under $400. Its walking controller is trained in MuJoCo and runs on a Raspberry Pi. I like that the team shares the CAD files and code so others can study how it moves.

This is already starting. China is pushing humanoid robots into military style demos training grounds and battlefield scenarios. The world is not ready for what comes next. Once robots get legs hands cameras and payload capacity the battlefield changes. No confirmed frontline deployment yet. But the direction is impossible to ignore.

This AIST humanoid demo is worth studying. The robot handles a large construction panel keeps balance aligns the sheet against the wall frame and uses a power tool in a real workspace setup. Slow movement. Controlled demo. Still a serious look at where humanoid robots could matter first. Construction tasks need reach force control balance tool use and recovery when the object shifts. That is exactly why humanoids are hard.

This is the best thing you’ll see today. Drop everything and watch this. 😂 A robot performing ballet, and every step somehow lands right on the punchline. Elegant… but not completely elegant. Beijing #WorldHumanoidRobotGames #HumanoidRobot #Robotics

Two very different projects. Same kind of engineering instinct. The upper clip uses a cockroach with a very minimal mechanical setup. The lower one takes a quadcopter and surrounds it with tracked frames so the same machine can move on land, travel through water and take off into the air. What caught my eye is how both designs start from a physical behavior instead of adding layers of software. For the air land water drone the engineering tradeoff is especially interesting. Flying helps with obstacles and speed. Driving can save battery when the terrain allows it. Water mobility gives the same platform another route when roads disappear. Of course, every extra mobility mode adds weight, moving parts and harder control transitions. Still I like this direction. Build the machine around the environment it has to cross. I’m still wondering what the cockroach project in the top clip is actually meant to do though. Does anyone know the intended use case?

A humanoid robot is already sorting packages inside a warehouse. Companies call this productivity. Workers see a machine learning their job without needing wages health insurance or paid leave. Should companies pay a robot tax for every human position they eliminate? At what point does society admit there may not be enough new jobs for everyone?

This is what the race for better robotic hands looks like right now. dexterous robot hands from different companies, showing faster finger control, coordinated movements and increasingly precise object handling. Walking gets the headlines. Hands will decide how useful humanoid robots become.

This could become one of the most dangerous applications of robotics. Do you agree? Show me a robotics use case with higher consequences for humans. Because when a robot controls an aircraft one software error, sensor failure, or bad physical action can put hundreds of lives at risk.

Many people will scroll past this post but let me say it clearly. The country that can build weapons at this level may be the first to reach ASI. A humanoid robotic arm with advanced perception precision control rapid targeting and autonomous coordination combines AI robotics vision systems force control and real time decision making in one physical platform. The race toward Artificial Superintelligence may be led by defense programs building machines that can see decide act and eventually help design better versions of themselves. When a country can produce robotic systems capable of improving the machines doing the fighting ASI stops being a software theory #HumanoidRobots #MilitaryAI #ASI
