STRIDES UNDER NEW POWER MINISTER, MR. JOSEPH TEGBE Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has energised a new 300MVA transformer at Katampe, Abuja. This is expected to improve transmission capacity and supply reliability within the FCT and surrounding areas. Following the failure of a 100MVA transformer in Abuja, TCN and AEDC reportedly restored electricity to affected parts of the FCT within 24 hours: a response time that many consumers would consider commendable given the scale of such faults. Also, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) under Engr. Jennifer Adighije has revived the 450MW Alaoji Power Plant after about three years of inactivity; a potentially important addition to available generation capacity if sustainably dispatched.

A MEASURABLE PROJECT WITH CLEAR TIMELINE THE NEW ABEOKUTA SUBSTATION IN OGUN STATE. Project Timeline: The New Abeokuta Substation upgrade in Ogun State is set to be completed in 2026. It is part of Phase One of the Presidential Power Initiative, which aims to add 4,000 megawatts of transmission capacity across Nigeria within three years. Measurable Milestones: The project will transform the existing 132/33kV facility into a modern 330/132/33kV substation. This upgrade is expected to unlock approximately 480 megawatts of additional transmission capacity at this single site. Complementary infrastructure includes the Olorunsogo–Ayede 330kV transmission line with a tee-off at New Abeokuta to enable efficient power evacuation. Expected Impact: Once completed, the upgraded substation will strengthen grid reliability in Ogun State and surrounding regions. It will support industrial clusters, businesses, and residential communities along the Ogun industrial corridor by ensuring that generated electricity can be transmitted efficiently to downstream customers.

THE AYEDE TRANSMISSION SUBSTATION UPGRADE Project Timeline: The Ayede Transmission Substation upgrade in Oyo State is set to be completed in line with Phase One of the Presidential Power Initiative, which aims to add 4,000 megawatts of transmission capacity across Nigeria within three years. The project is one of five priority projects under PPI Phase 1, alongside Offa, Onitsha, New Abeokuta, and Sokoto. Measurable Milestones: The project includes the replacement of a burnt 150MVA, 330/132kV transformer and the construction of a new 132kV line bay. Once completed, this intervention will increase the station's transmission wheeling capacity by 120 megawatts. Expected Impact: The upgraded substation will improve grid reliability in Oyo State and surrounding regions. Together with the other four priority projects, it will contribute to a stronger, more resilient national grid.
