Ceddanne Rafaela is one of few outfielders who can catch a 5% probability ball without diving. Such an amazing jump and pursuit it barely draws a reaction from the announcers. It's measurably one of the toughest catches we'll see this year. The vast majority of outfielders aren't getting close to this one, and the few who do are fortunate to catch it on the dive:

This ball had a 99% catch probability for the CF and a 90% catch probability for the RF:

The biggest play in the Mets/White Sox game yesterday, Tyrone Taylor's 2B to center. The ball had a 90% catch probability. That's for all outfielders, not just center fielders. Luis Robert's jump was -7.1 feet below average. And that guy in LF? Michael A. Taylor, one of the best CF in the league. He had a 10% probability from where he was and probably would have caught it if Robert didn't go after it. No excuse for him to be anywhere but CF if he's on the field for the Sox.

By request (and from an Orioles fan😬). Can't believe Brandon Hyde let this happen: This ball had a 99% catch probability. If you can still see the jump in the wrong direction on the TV screen, that's a huge clue. The jump is -21.2 feet below average. Interestingly, it won't be included in his average jump stats, because only balls below 90% are used for that. Tough break for Cedric, surely he wishes he could have this back. He's made a ton of great plays this season.

Corbin Carroll led MLB in ideal attack angle with 68.4% in 2025. That's the % of swings with an attack angle between 5 and 20 degrees (optimal for line drives and hard contact). Not to be confused with launch angle, which is the angle the ball takes off the bat. The whole "round ball, round bat" concept makes that tougher to control. Data and visuals from Baseball Savant/MLB:
