This is what happens when you rage tweet without understanding elementary optics. The undulations seen here is an optical illusion. In optics, this phenomenon is called telephoto compression. This happens when you use a zoom lens from far away. The lens "squashes" the scene, making the background and foreground look much closer together than they actually are. If you stood there yourself, the road would look normal. Even the part where the road divider supposedly "widens" is actually quite long section and the increase in width is gradual, and would be hardly noticeable for folks who are driving on the stretch I shot this video 10 years ago showing how gradients get exaggerated when you zoom in.

It used to be beautiful in Maharashtra, too, before Gadkari and his contractor lobby ruined it. This video is from July 9 , 2023. Look at the road surface (Near Boisar) during peak monsoon. This excellent surface was purposefully dug up to be replaced with a shitty concrete road

RRTS is in the news for doing 80 km from Delhi to Meerut in an hour. And I’m sitting here thinking… I used to do 70 km in one hour every single weekday. In Mumbai. Andheri to Palghar. In 60 minutes. Flat. Meet the legend: the queen of WR: the 12921/2 Flying Ranee Express. 18: 10-> Andheri 18: 22 -> Borivali 19: 10 -> Palghar I’d be home in Palghar before half my colleagues living in Thane or Mulund reached Kurla. 😅 Disclosure: They let me go 10 minutes early because I lived in a village and came in a "blue " train. Attached video: The Flying Ranee in 2013, captured by me.

BTW, Pratap Sarnaik is the same guy who was caught traveling on a highway on the wrong side and faced protests from local residents. These folks who think the law can be sidelined for them are now its custodians and talk about legality. The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

Another day. Another Vande Bharat trip. This time in a worn, ageing coach of the 22962 in white livery.

Atal Bridge is a NOT a traditional pedestrian bridge. 🤦 It's part of a larger tourist attraction/area where people come to chill and spend some time. Look at the crowd. People absolutely don't mind spending money to access (not cross) it. Video Source: Me

Came across an interesting video involving former Kerala (oops Keralam) CM Oommen Chandy’s son, Chandy Oommen (yes, his name is actually his father's name in reverse). He’s the Congress Party MLA from Puthupally in Kottayam. Unhappy with the pace of development in the constituency, local BJP leaders announced a protest march that would culminate at his residence. Anticipating tensions and a possible clash between supporters, the police were deployed in advance. Chandy Oommen is seen telling the police beforehand to allow the march to proceed and not block BJP workers. The police didn’t entirely follow that line, and there was a minor scuffle -- but nothing serious. What stood out was what happened next. Once the protest concluded, Chandy Oommen walked straight into the middle of the BJP supporters, exchanged pleasantries, and had an open conversation with them. The BJP leaders and protesters responded warmly, urging him to consider some of the demands they had raised. In the end, there was laughter, handshakes, and a surprisingly cordial atmosphere. 😁

The Vande Bharat is nice and all, but like all other ICF products, these coaches age horribly. This is the 22962 barely after 2 years of usage. The paint is coming off, and those panel gaps look terrible. The glass on my side of the window and the one opposite to me was shattered with water droplets obscuring the view. The ones that didn't have this issue were unclean from the outside. The coaches aren't being washed/cleaned and the general maintenance seems to have taken a hit now that the "newness" has vanished. Pictures taken during my Ahmedabad Mumbai trip last week.

Five years living in Ahmedabad (working from home), and today's the first time I experienced the city's bus-based public transport (BRTS and AMTS). It's a different thing ranting about infrastructure and deficiencies on Twitter, and a totally different experience actually using them. Thanks to The Urban Lab Foundation UrbanVoices.in #BuskiBaat

This is a serious transparency issue. And Rebel Foods -- the company behind faasos -- is notorious for it. They operate NINETEEN brands on food delivery platforms in my area. Yes, nineteen. All are listed simultaneously. All 19 appear like independent restaurants. So even if you decide not to order from Faasos, chances are you’ll still end up ordering from… Faasos. Just under a different name. I have nothing against the company. They’re running a business and trying to make money. But 19 brands out of the same kitchens? LOL.

This delightful clip, shared with me by Nagdev Pawar sir, perfectly captures the ongoing nightmare that is the Virar–Manor stretch of NH-48 as of June 2025. Once a smooth, asphalt-paved highway, it was tragically "upgraded" by NHAI to concrete. The result? A national highway that transforms into India's longest parking lot the moment a raindrop hits the ground. This particular traffic jam stretches roughly 22 kms from Manor to Sakawar village. And how can anyine miss that glorious "newly" laid concrete surface? Remember, the NHAI did this concretization work because cement roads supposedly last longer life and warrant lower maintenance. It's been not even a year since this surface was laid. Only in India can a brand-new road be objectively worse than the old one it replaced. This is a true feat of engineering incompetence, proudly brought to you by the NHAI and its contractor cartel. Shame on you NHAI Shame on you Nitin Gadkari

India: Divided by languages. United by corruption and incompetence. These are roads "maintained" by PWD, Maharashtra. (Wada - Bhiwandi - Manor Highway) Give me one reason to vote for you in October CMO Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis Eknath Shinde - एकनाथ शिंदे, and not Aaditya Thackeray instead.

This asphalt road from Kerala (the NH-66) absolutely mogs this concrete clad monstrosity called the Delhi Mumbai Expressway. Ironically, both are built by the NHAI. Stop scamming Indians with shitty PQC roads. If you really want to make it using concrete, use it as a substrata and resurface it with asphalt. The Vadodara Delhi section of the expressway is asphalt anyway. The high rainfall argument doesn't hold true for the Vadodara Mumbai section as the NH66 is located in a region with higher rainfall than Mumbai. The fact that asphalt offers smoother rides is an established fact.
