"We don't have to be here." That was the... message from Power Capital’s Omnes Capital, Power Capital Planning Manager at the "public consultation" for the Ballymoneen Solar Farm Proposed Extension. He stood in front of a room of concerned locals and told them that public consultation wasn't even a requirement. The arrogance is quite something. This is how Dublin‑based French private equity-backed corporates treat a rural parish in the west of Ireland: with open contempt. This video is the direct result of that attitude. Listen to the reaction when a local man stands up to tell them: "You are not going to come down and destroy the West of Ireland." I know that local voice speaks for a whole lot of the parish here, a lot of voters who will vote. Omnes Capital, Power Capital and the politicians standing over these fractured policies need to watch this closely. When you treat a rural community with this level of contempt, don't be surprised when they fight back. We won't forget this.show more

In complete and total agreement that we need to... resurrect a Cavalier Spirit, a Southern Spirit, whatever you’d like to refer to it as. However, Cromwell and John Brown don’t deserve to be said in the same sentence. Napoleon idolized Cromwell. He was Hitlers favorite too. Both did this for quite good reason. Cromwell was also the one who first most truly unified England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. A great man to be emulated, and looked to in many regards, who led the New Model Army to victory, and Charles I did deserve what he got. Meanwhile, John Brown was just an insane murderer who led one of the most hilariously poorly planned operations that relied on the slaves all rising up, and even though thousands could’ve joined him, he got a grand total of 2, and then was rightfully crushed by Robert E. Lee and JEB Stuart. There’s a reason why John Brown pretty much exclusively resonates with insane leftists. However, most of those who still speak of Cromwell? They’re right wing nationalists. There’s no need to trash him, when he’s a great man who can be used and resonated with.show more

My baby is only 10 days old… born into... famine and under fire My little boy… my innocent angel… Ali, not even ten days old, came into this world during one of the darkest and most brutal times. He was born in Gaza, born into a genocide. An infant with no fault except that he is Palestinian — born in a place where milk is under siege, childhood is a target, and dreams die before they’re born. His birth was a nightmare. His mother, exhausted from hunger and malnutrition, barely survived. She cannot breastfeed him… she barely has the strength to hold him. And my baby? He cries endlessly. No formula, no diapers, no crib to sleep in, no warmth, no safety — only the cold arms of war. One can of infant formula costs $100, and a pack of diapers is nearly $400 — and we need them every week at least. But I stand here empty-handed… powerless… broken. I cannot give my child the most basic of rights: to be fed, to be clean, to be held in peace. My son, forgive me… I never knew you would be born into a world so cruel. I never imagined your first taste of life would be hunger, deprivation, and pain. But I will never stop trying. To those reading these words — you are our hope. My children need the bare minimum to survive. Your donations, your compassion, your humanity — they are the only things that can save my baby from this slow death, from a hunger that is louder than war. Please… help me save Ali. Help me protect a childhood that began in tragedy.show more

When I was 16 working in a hospital cafeteria,... a 38-yr old a coworker named “Mike 7-4” slapped the shit outta me because I told my supervisor he was out back doing cocaine instead of helping me in the dish room. This is where politicians need to be working. A Sunday morning ain’t shit in most food service jobs. Work fast food on a Friday night after HS football. Or Deliver pizzas, Put Trump a man down in a two-man dish room, with the front line beggin for clean plates while Mike 7-4 out back trying to buy Vicodin off the nurses in the cardiac wing. Dish room a sweat box. 300° steam coming off the machine and here come with Mr. Wallaby cussin because the silverware aint rolled yet. Bitch It ain’t rolled because my coworker is high sir . Ahmed (Ahmed Ashour 𓂆🇵🇸) is a friend of mine... from Gaza. He just DM’d me a video he captured moments ago— a man walking toward an ambulance, carrying what looks like a small red bag. But it’s not groceries, it’s the remains of a boy. That’s what’s left of him after an airstrike targeted Ahmed’s neighbor. You can hear them calling “Come collect, we’ve got a head and three limbs and …” This is daily reality. Ahmed is just a normal guy — like me, like any of you. Yet these are the scenes he’s been forced to accept and endure. Quietly. Resiliently. He shouldn’t have to, as no one should. To those who have been saying, “We don’t need to see more bodies” — you do. Until a ceasefire is actually implemented, you do. You will see them because these bodies exist due to your taxes, your weapons, your silence, and your complicity. Who is the boy in that bag? Did he not have a name? A mother? A life? What compels us to let him be reduced to this? We had 460 days to stop this genocide — to prevent more innocents from being turned into bags of meat and bones. We failed. What happens tomorrow, if nothing changes? If you’ve stayed silent on Gaza, these are your final days to speak before the genocide ends — one way or another. When it’s over, there will be two kinds of people: those who said something, and those who did not. It’s not too late. But it will be.show more

I think this little boy has already discovered one... of life’s greatest mysteries: babies are absolutely hilarious… even when they do absolutely nothing. 😂❤️ There is something wonderfully funny about watching children interact because they have absolutely no interest in following the social rules adults spend years learning. An adult sees a baby and usually asks, “How old is he?” “Is he sleeping well?” “Does he eat properly?” “Who does he look like?” This little boy seems to have a much simpler approach: “Look at this tiny human. I love him. He is extremely entertaining.” And honestly, I respect the logic. The baby isn't telling jokes. He isn't doing magic tricks. He isn't performing some impressive dance. He is basically just lying there, staring around, peacefully existing. And somehow, that is enough. The boy looks at him and starts laughing as if the baby has just delivered the funniest comedy routine of the year. This is one of the things I love most about children. Their sense of humor doesn't need an explanation. They can find something fascinating that adults would completely overlook. A funny face. A strange little sound. A pair of tiny feet. Someone blinking at the wrong moment. Or apparently… a baby simply lying there. And the funniest part is that the baby seems completely unaware that he has become the star of the show. He isn't trying to impress anyone. He isn't even trying to be funny. He has apparently been hired for the role of “adorable baby” and has decided to take his responsibilities very seriously by doing absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, his older companion is having the time of his life. This is what makes childhood so special. Children haven't yet developed that complicated filter that tells them what is supposed to be interesting and what isn't. They don't need an expensive toy, a spectacular view, or some carefully planned activity. Give them another child and five minutes, and somehow they will invent their own entertainment. Adults spend money looking for happiness. Children can apparently find it lying on a blanket. And there is something refreshing about that. We grow up and become experts at overthinking everything. We worry about appearances, expectations, productivity, and whether we're having a “meaningful” experience. Children don't seem to care. They see something they like, and they react. They laugh because they're happy. They get excited because something catches their attention. They stare because they're curious. And when they have absolutely no idea what is happening, they simply keep watching. Maybe that's why moments like this feel so refreshing. There is no performance, no hidden agenda, and no attempt to make the moment look deeper than it is. It's just one little boy having a surprisingly serious conversation with a baby who hasn't learned how to talk yet. And somehow, the conversation seems to be going very well. I don't know what the baby was thinking. Maybe he was thinking about milk. Maybe he was thinking about sleep. Maybe he was thinking, “Why is this guy laughing at me?” But the boy clearly wasn't asking for an explanation. He was having fun. And perhaps that's one of the sweetest things about childhood: You don't need a reason to laugh when everything around you is still new. Adults could probably use a little more of that. 😂❤️show more

An email sent to An Taoiseach Simon Harris TD... this morning. I’ll keep you all posted if I hear back ❤️ Hi Simon, I am writing to you as an incredibly concerned parent of an 8.5 year old boy, Harvey. Harvey has Spina bifida and scoliosis which in itself is challenging, but when those conditions are coupled with a lack of access to therapy, a hospital that is potentially misappropriating funds, and incredibly long wait lists for urgent and life changing surgeries, then it becomes impossible to adequately care for your child. Harvey had an Xray in January 2024 that showed his scoliosis curve is at 110°, if you have read in to scoliosis then I am sure you are aware how this is at a point where it is detrimental to his health and quality of life. Harvey was under Connor Green and was listed for urgent surgery in February 2022 after repeated pneumonia infections, 30 months later he is still only on the surgical list under Connor Green as he does not have a surgeon willing to operate. The task force you hold in such high regard has not made contact with my family, nor is there any details online of how to contact them to enquire as to when your child will finally be treated. You continually tell families like ours that you care, and you have been promising to fix this since 2017. 2017 was the year we were told that Harvey’s ribs were crushing his lungs and controlling his scoliosis was life and death. Here we are in 2024 and nothing has changed except we now have a surgeon under investigation, longer wait lists, more children waiting, a still not complete hospital, and funds not being spent as intended and no answers yet as to where the money *we* fought for went. You say you care but your actions have left us feeling anything but. We as a family also have a child facing open heart surgery next month and this is just more stress and concern that we do not need. Another summer has just passed and Harvey has spent the majority in his room, often needing to go back in to bed because he is in so much pain. Is that the life you think the children of Ireland deserve? Would you accept that if it was your own child? Can you imagine being told your child has a potentially life threatening condition but that it will be years before it would be treated? We need actual action, not more empty promises. You need to engage with all advocacy groups, not just those that are currently working with the task force. There are very valid reasons why the other groups have chosen to not engage and they need to be heard. We need contact details and open dialogue with the task force so that we can actually feel its existence. We need answers as to where the funding for scoliosis and spina bifida services went. Most of all, these children need to get their quality of life back before their whole childhood passes. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards. Gillian Sherrattshow more

“I DON’T NEED NO MAN”-Black American women This mentality... of not needing a man That has been said and installed In black girls/womens minds for decades now has plagued the community With single homes and boys that have to go to the army to learn discipline Do black women have a lot of good options in the black community dating wise? Dominic West, aka Detective Jimmy McNulty, is a British... actor who had to adjust his accent to be authentic in his role on the iconic TV series ‘The Wire’. The show is set in Baltimore and is suffused with Baltimore culture, including its language. Co-creator Ed Burns said that West spent a lot of time going over the accent with David Simon: ‘“Now, say it like po-lice.” “Police.” “No, po-lice.”’ Others helped out as well. Peter Gerety, a veteran of stage and screen who played Judge Daniel Phelan, said West asked him for guidance: He said, ‘I need you to listen to me. I’ve got to get this Baltimore accent down,’ because, of course, he’s British. He actually does a really good American accent, but I sort of sat with him, and he just worked through stuff for a couple of days, just to get his Baltimore accent closer. Not that I was all that great with it, but I think I helped him a little bit. Dominic West elaborates on the challenge: It never got any easier for me. It was a real problem for me, actually. I worked pretty hard on it. I think the producers felt that, eventually, perhaps I wouldn’t need the coach anymore, but I did. I needed it right up until we wrapped the whole series, and it was a constant effort particularly any time he [McNulty] got emotional or you started shouting. That’s when you lose the accent and start going into your own accent. I always dreaded those scenes, and it was a pain.show more

There’s been some confusion/comments about my use of the... phrase “pull the goalie” … so I’ll explain what it means, why I use it and why I think it’s the right starting point to use for defining urban Family Friendly housing Like from this clip from Marley and Me, it has simply meant a couple having sex, while being open to having kids. The word " trying" can feel really strange at first ... so it's just the shift from preventing a pregnancy to being willing for one to happen. And there’s a very big difference between getting pregnant and deciding to be willing to get pregnant. That difference is *key* when it comes both to designing housing and to making a City more family friendly. I know plenty of couples who have gotten pregnant immediately, like on the honeymoon. And for others it has taken years of ACTUAL trying (tracking cycles, having sex at specific times of day, hormones, IVF) ... and for some of our friends despite all efforts it just has not happened. Only God knows when or if a couple will have a baby. Babies truly are a miracle. (On a related note, Marley and Me is a beautiful movie in telling the story of wanting a family and losing a baby. My wife and I have lost children, so we know a *bit* of what the heartbreak of miscarriage is like) But the shift for a couple to become WILLING to have a baby is one of the core reasons people struggle to have kids in cities. If someone looks around their apartment and thinks, “There is no way we could raise a baby here,” then they’re less likely to stop using birth control. Your home has to feel like it could accommodate a baby. A "Baby Maybe" home: a second small bedroom or a tiny home office, that could have be a nursery in a pinch. It enables the small, almost subconscious, mental threshold where you say, “You know what … we’d be fine if this happened.” That’s the moment. And for each couple, there will be 1000 other things that go into the equation: Can we afford for 1 of us to stay home, or full-time childcare? Do we see other kids around us? Is it safe enough for kids? Are there parks nearby? Do we need to be closer to family and cousins? All will be different for each family, but they ALL require that their current home is sufficient to be able to have a kid Otherwise, as soon as a couple finds out they are pregnant ... they call their parents, friends and family and tell them the good news ... and then immediately look on Zillow to move right away so they aren't giving birth AND moving the same time. It's kind of a bummer in an otherwise wonderful magical moment. We've seen many many couples move out of the City at that exact period. "Well, since we are moving anyway, we might as well go to where we think we will live long term." But it doesn't need to be that. Babies are small. At least for the first year, if you have a place to put them you're probably better off just staying in your current place and then figuring things out later. Maybe you DO need to move to the suburbs or be closer to family or you want a house with a yard. But that decision doesn't need to be right away. TLDR: Family Friendly housing doesn’t begin at birth. It begins when a couple can imagine a child fitting into their current home ... whether that's a rowhome with tiny bedrooms or a 1BR+Den apartment.show more

MORAL COWARDICE: Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) has vetoed... a bill that would have banned child s*x change surgeries and barred trans athletes from girls sports. Recently, when asked about the factors that would influence his decision, he said: “My decision will be based on one thing…what I think is in the best interests of the children who would be impacted by this law." So, DeWine believes that the “best interests” of the children of Ohio are served by the irreversible effects of genital mutilations and cross-s*x hormones, along with males in female locker rooms and males competing female sports. This is repugnant moral cowardice. With “Republicans” like this, there’s no need for Democrats.show more

I know these streets. I lived in Karachi. I... did my engineering in Karachi. So when I watch this enormous celebration moving from Empress Market towards Teen Talwar , I understand exactly what it means for the city. It practically cripples Karachi. Roads are taken over, traffic comes to a standstill and, for a while, one of the busiest cities in the world has to make room for this extraordinary expression of faith. And you know what? I love it. Let them have the streets. Let them celebrate. Let them sing their prayers and call out the name of Ram. Let their children see their parents and grandparents celebrating without fear or apology. Look beyond the traffic and the inconvenience and see what is actually happening: freedom is taking up space. Karachi belongs to them too. Having lived there, I know the scale of what I am watching. It reminds me of the great processions of Bombay — a huge city temporarily surrendering part of itself to faith, colour, humanity and celebration. That is the beautiful thing. For too long, India and Pakistan have allowed religion to become a dividing line between us. Yet here, on the streets of Karachi, is another possibility: Hindus celebrating their faith openly in a Muslim-majority country while fellow Pakistanis make space for them. To my Hindu brothers and sisters: this is your home. Celebrate it. Enjoy it. Be proud of it. And when I hear the joyful cries of “Jai Shri Ram,” I do not hear a threat to my own faith. I hear another human being expressing theirs. That is the Pakistan I want. A Pakistan confident enough in its Muslim identity that it does not fear the prayer of a Hindu, the gurdwara of a Sikh, the church of a Christian, or the beliefs of anyone else. And that is the message I want to send across the border as well: let us become secure enough in who we are that we no longer need to diminish one another. Let India be India. Let Pakistan be Pakistan. But let Indians and Pakistanis be human beings to one another. May we bury hatred, not each other.show more

Sorry if I did not answer many of you.... I’ve never been a fan of the online eulogy. The immediate fallout is always about loved ones. And we should leave those closest be. And then I realised of course I was just incredibly upset, and a large digital outpouring is inevitable and testament to his character. My devastation came from having to watch it all unfold. From spending years trying to help and actually getting him close to a point where he almost had a normal life again - then being powerless to stop him doing things he should not have. Powerless in every sense as it also meant it sometimes not being my place to say anything. In the end watching some of the evil shits around enable the worst of it was too much for me, I had to step back it was too painful to watch. I told my mate who was filling in for me looking after him “ah I just need some space from it all, I’ll be back with him after Christmas” and then suddenly there was no Christmas. And it turned out no one was to blame, and I immediately looked to blame myself most of all, fearing the worst. But it was a simple accident in the end. A bolt out of the blue. So if you are ever estranged or overwhelmed by friends and family and think it will all be OK one day - DON’T put it off. Reach out now. Grab that person and hold them tight. There may not be a tomorrow. You might not be around to see them off. There may not be the grand luxury of time available you thought there was. He died in the arms of his beloved son, and that is a measure of comfort, if a passing can ever have any. He was my mentor, my friend and my glad burden. And there was nothing I would not do for him.show more
