I enjoyed meeting President Trump for the first time... after his address to Congress. I took the brief opportunity to mention our mutual friend Mike Leach and we had warm exchange about the “great, great coach.” Mike used to talk with me frequently about his friendship with President Trump, including once secretly visiting Mara Lago during a bye week and discussing his own interest in potentially running for political office when he hung up the whistle. “You would have my complete and total support.” (Mike’s incredible personal skills, story telling ability and no BS common sense would have made him a very innovative and effective elected official.) I’m sure at some point in the future I will have an opportunity to discuss substantive policy with the President, but I’m also looking forward to some hopeful lighter moments to share Leach stories. Mike was the best and I have zero doubt that he is watching down with a big smile on his face as he’s telling a few stories about some guys he know right now.
