Goal or No Goal The rule👇 👉 That is... NOT a goal. It’s an offence for preventing the goalkeeper from releasing the ball, and play should be stopped. The restart would be a free kick to the goalkeeper’s team. When would it be a goal? •If the goalkeeper completely released the ball, •the ball was clearly free in the air, •and the striker then kicked it and scored, 👉 That IS a valid goal. Key takeaway (simple version): •Ball still under keeper’s control → no goal •Ball fully released and free → goalshow more

🚨IT’S ALWAYS THE PHILLIES🚨 This was the Ernie Clement... ball for Toronto Blue Jays in the 10th, and folks are wondering how this is a hit. This ends up being a mental error in not making the proper play, and Bohm’s throw to first was on target, just late. He only looked at second, so it can’t be a fielder’s choice, and since he fielded the ball cleanly and was accurate to first, the only thing this can be is a hit. #BlueJays50 #RingTheBellshow more

Did you know you can create the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution... with just some balls and a motor? I built this simple device to illustrate it. This is how it works: A spinning agitator pumps energy into ~400 balls, so they bounce around and collide like gas particles in a box. They escape one at a time through a tiny hole, then fall a fixed gap into bins below. Since the hole is so small, every ball leaves with no vertical speed and takes the same time to fall. Constant fall time means how far a ball flies sideways is set purely by its speed. A faster ball goes into a further bin. So each bin is really a speed. Tally all 400 and you get the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution.show more

This is a textbook example of why the "ball... to hand" rule exists. According to IFAB Law 12, a handball is not an offense if the ball is hit on the hand or arm directly from a teammate’s kick or header at close range. Vitinha smashed the ball into Neves from point-blank range and so, it is classified as “unpreventable contact”, the rule is superseded by proximity. Neves has zero reaction time to move his arm when the ball is coming off a teammate’s foot from two yards away. There’s also the fact that it was a defensive clearance and not an opponent's shot or a goal-bound ball, there is no "unfair advantage" gained. So, this wasn’t a pen, IMOshow more
