Discussed diplomatic efforts to bring an end to Russia’s... war against Ukraine and Europe’s role in this process with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb Alexander Stubb. Transatlantic unity on the path to peace is essential. We coordinated our positions on the next steps. Importantly, during our meetings, partners note Ukraine is now in its strongest battlefield position over the past year and has become a reliable security provider in Europe and other regions. Our teams are already working on preparing a Drone Deal, and we expect a prompt result. Special attention was given to Ukraine’s European integration. A necessary window of opportunity has now emerged to open all six negotiation clusters. I thank Finland for its support of the PURL initiative, which is helping greatly protect lives in Ukraine, especially in light of massive Russian air strikes like the one we are seeing today. We need a long-term ceasefire, reliable security, and lasting peace. We are also ready for the next round of trilateral meetings. We also discussed the Ukraine Recovery Conference, work on good-neighborly relations in the region, and contacts with partners. I met with Emmanuel Macron. We spoke primarily about... security and the winter support package for Ukraine. We are also ready to secure additional SAMP/T air defense systems and missiles for them using the financial resources available through the EU loan. We continue working on the possibility of producing these air defense systems and missiles in Ukraine, as well as on the joint FREYJA anti-ballistic program with our partners. A major part of the deal also focuses on cybersecurity. Due to its key role in supplying military aid to Ukraine, Poland has become one of the main targets for Russian hackers and espionage operations. I met with representatives of the American think tank... Hudson Institute and informed them about the consequences of Russian strikes in recent days. In light of these attacks, it is particularly important to bolster Ukraine’s air defense, and we are grateful to the United States of America and to all caring Americans for their support of Ukraine, which we have felt throughout all the years of this full-scale Russian aggression. During the meeting, we discussed cooperation with the U.S. Congress, diplomatic work to achieve a dignified peace, and the importance of active U.S. participation in the negotiation process. We are counting on an end to the pause in the negotiations and the reinvigoration of diplomacy. This is important for saving the lives of our people and restoring security in Europe.show more

In Tallinn today. Ahead of the Ukraine – Nordic-Baltic... Summit, I met with the Prime Minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo. We discussed the work in Europe to develop anti-ballistic defense capabilities, as well as the preparation of an agreement in the Drone Deal format. The teams are working, and the main thing is that there be more protection in Europe. Special attention was given to our needs in strengthening air defense, security challenges in the region, and diplomatic work to achieve a dignified peace. I informed the Prime Minister about our contacts with Europeans and Americans. I am grateful to the Government, the people, and all of Finland for supporting Ukraine – above all, for all the military packages and contributions to the PURL initiative. The front line, and the fight for freedom, now await them. Tomorrow marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine represents the most serious security policy challenge facing Europe and Norway, emphasises Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik. ‘Ukraine’s struggle for freedom, sovereignty and democracy directly strengthens our own security. Norway stands with Ukraine. We will continue our support — political, economic and military — for Ukraine’s freedom, and for a just and lasting peace in Europe.’ Norway will allocate NOK 85 billion in support to Ukraine in 2026, of which NOK 70 billion will be military assistance. I am grateful for all the support France has... provided to Ukraine, and for Emmanuel Macron personal support. Today, Emmanuel and I spoke primarily about security of Ukraine and Europe, as well as global security in light of the events in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Of course, today and always, Emmanuel and I maintain substantive coordination on issues related to our protection in Ukraine and our defense. We devote significant attention to joint defense production. We discussed both bilateral projects and the SAFE instrument. We identified steps and specific decisions that can deliver strong results. This concerns both air defense and combat aviation. It is important to continue putting pressure on Russia over this war in order to achieve genuine security and a lasting peace. The European Union’s resolve, and that of other partners around the world, must remain firm – it must work in a way that leaves Russia with no illusions. Russia must end this war. During a meeting with the Federal Minister for Foreign... Affairs of Germany, Johann Wadephul Johann Wadephul, we had a detailed discussion on Ukraine’s path toward EU membership. The current blockages are purely political, and I am grateful to Germany for its support. The opening of clusters will certainly add momentum to progress across all areas of European integration and reforms. This should be the driving force for further joint work and coordination. A united Europe clearly has enough strength for this. I also shared the results of my visit to the Middle East and the system for protecting lives that Ukraine has offered to the countries of the region.
