President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who came into office in March 2021, is expected to officially inaugurate the mammoth project before the end of the year. The project was initially scheduled for completion in July 2023, but construction was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally known as the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, the Chinese-built mega infrastructure was renamed Magufuli Bridge in honour of the former president. The project is being developed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Group (CCECG) and China Railway. The bridge was entirely financed by the government of Tanzania through its own revenues. The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), said construction of the bridge was completed on October 6. "As the last tank of cement was poured on Sunday, the construction of the Magufuli Bridge was completed by two Chinese companies in Tanzania's northwestern Mwanza region," the People's Daily said in an online post. When I was a kid, my cousins used to... come to Kolkata from different states, and the Metro train was one of the main attractions. We used to travel from Dum Dum to Tollygunge just to see the Metro. Another attraction was Vidyasagar Setu. We would go all the way from North Kolkata to Kona just to see it. There was a time when Kolkata was ahead of every other state. Now look at the Missing Link of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. They have built an 8 lane road through tunnels across valleys. An 8.9 km long tunnel and a 4.4 km long bridge. Can you even imagine the TMC government pulling off something like that? They are not able to control traffic for 7 days for the Chingrighata Metro work. Airport police on 17th Feb, for performing dangerous #Stunts (#CarStunts) with #BMW and #Fortuner luxury cars on #ORR stretch near #Shamshabad in the early hours of 9th Feb. The video had gone viral on social media platforms and it raised #RoadSafety concerns among the motorists. They removed the number plates during stunts, the RGI Airport police traced the cars with the help of CCTV and after identifying the drivers caught them. The luxury cars were also seized. The arrested are Mohammed Obaidullah (25), a resident of Rajendranagar and Zohair Siddiqui (25), a resident of Malakpet on 9th February went on the ORR Shamshabad and were doing stunts in two different cars. Ndugu, STOP misleading Kenyans! The road criss-crosses Kitutu Chache... North and South constituencies in Kisii County, and is 64.6 km. The project was initially awarded on 11th May, 2016, and works commenced on 5th August, 2016, after its launch by President Uhuru Kenyatta. But the contract was mutually terminated on 16th May, 2023, due to the contractor's non-performance. At the time of termination, the contractor had completed 27km, with 77 months having lapsed out of the 30-month contract period. The project was re-tendered and awarded on 14th March 2024, with works commencing on 22nd June 2024. President William Samoei Ruto, PhD officially relaunched the newly awarded road contract, fulfilling his pledge to complete all stalled road projects. The contract period for the works is 42 months and a further maintenance period of 36 months. FYI: A project launch is often just a ceremonial event, and it sometimes occurs after works have already begun, hence the phrase ‘OFFICIAL LAUNCH’. Don’t overly concern yourself with plaques. The residents frustration stems from the large funds allocated to Roysambu through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), which they believe should have been used to fix the poor road conditions. Official records show that constituency received Ksh 145,087,603.00 in the 2022/2023 financial year and Ksh 175,361,810.00 in the 2023/2024 financial year, totalling over Ksh 320 million across the two years most roads in the constituency remain in a terrible state, with potholes and poor drainage.
