I just built my own wiki generator plugin for... my agents. My agents can now generate wikis for anything I ask. One of my favorite wikis is called PaperWiki. This is a great example of what Andrej Karpathy describes. It uses obsidian vaults to organize papers, retrieve LLM-generated summaries, diagrams, and other advanced views for paper exploration. When Obsidian UI is not enough, I use my own artifact generator inside my agent orchestrator (see clip for example). This allows my agents to build any kind of view or exploration feature that I need. The papers are all curated with automations and several rules/patterns I have manually built over the years. On the surface, this looks basic. But behind the scenes, there are advanced search capabilities, connections, metadata, derived data, and other interesting bits of information that are extremely useful for my research agents. This is mostly built for agents. The artifact preview is just a high-level way to validate and quickly assess the quality of the wiki, suggest improvements, and it's also great for research. I use tobi lutke's qmd for all search capabilities. Everything is markdown. The summaries and even the diagrams. The wiki updates on its own based on several automations I have optimized over the past couple of weeks. The wiki grows and self-improves based on several requirements important for my research use cases. This is as personalized as it gets. There is nothing like it out there. And I use my research expertise to continue improving it over time. This is a vanilla wiki. There are so many things I want to build on top of this. Different aggregations, views, artifacts, etc. All to help automate more of my research work and accelerate productivity. I think the biggest leverage here is how powerful this could be for discovery and experimentation. One of my goals is to use it to find deeper connections and insights that would otherwise elude the top human researchers and use those to generate interesting new hypotheses and research experiments. Most chiral molecules arise from carbons being bonded to... 4 different atoms, which are called sterocenters. The makes the molecule have a different mirror image that cannot arise from simple rotation. But, you can have chiral molecules not from stereocenters. You can have chirality that doesn't come from a single point in the molecule. It comes from some global property. The classic example is helicene, which doesn't have any stereocenters, but has chirality because of hits helical structure. This means you cannot capture this molecule with a graph, and thus SMILES or a string representation cannot capture this. Of course natural language comes to the rescue (just say in words if it's left-handed or right-handed helix), but it's an interesting failure mode for viewing molecules as just a graph. Another example of a molecule with helical chirality is DNA. DNA is actually chiral in two ways, which is kind of confusing. It has both helical structure and stereocenters. You won't find the stereocenters ever flipped, but left-handed helical DNA can exist (called Z-DNA). Interestingly, making the flipped stereocenter of DNA could be part of an entire mirror organism (mirror RNA, DNA, AAs, sugars) that would then be potentially invisible to our immune systems. This has been recently proposed as a "mechanism" for how a runaway AI system could cause harm to Earth. I find it to be a pretty tedious and difficult way to cause harm, but it is intellectually cool. HTML Artifacts are a big part of how I... work with agents now. Artifacts can be more than just static files. When combined with agents, they can take action or help you take action. This unlocks all kinds of interesting ways to work with agents. This is clearly the future. Check out this writing and scheduler artifact I built in a few minutes. It uses a bit of HTML and JS. All the data is in markdown (Obsidian vaults), so the agent can access and modify it at any time. No DB needed. No sophisticated functionalities. The agent decides all that for me based on the skills, context, and memory it has access to. The best part about this simple stack is that all the important information stays with me. This has allowed me to build a recursive self-improving system and automations that can better tap into coding agents like Codex or Claude Code. I could have paid or built an entire app for scheduling posts, and there are so many of them out there. But I don't need to. I've realized a simple artifact does the job. And the simplicity of it is actually an advantage. Very little maintenance for very high returns on personalization, time, and efficiency. The other benefit of this is that I can add features as I please. That level of personalization feels magical, and we should all be pursuing more of it. All of this just keeps compounding. Of course, this example is just about writing. But I have similar artifacts for research, design, experimentation, evaluation, and so much more. And no, I didn't actually publish the post example I shared in the clip. It was just for demonstration purposes. I actually spend more time than this when writing together with agents. Lastly, having built my own agent orchestrator tool has made me realize that simplifying the tool stack is a superpower. The architecture of this new world model is one... of the most interesting things I've seen lately: Let me first explain how most world models work: They predict and render one frame at a time. If you are navigating in one of these worlds, and you look left, the model draws whatever looks right in the moment. Every time you change your viewpoint, the model has to imagine what should be there again, so it's very common for these models to "forget" what's in the world. For example, if you put a toy on the table, look away, then look back, the toy might not be there anymore. Tripo AI is releasing its Project Eden model, which works very differently: The model builds the world first, and then renders it based on that map. That map holds the real state of the world: the geometry, every object, where things are, what's already happened. The picture you see on screen gets generated from the map. This architecture flips the whole thing. Now, you get the following: 1. The world stops forgetting. Leave, come back, and the toy is still on the table because it lives in the map, not in the last frame you saw. 2. You can edit the world, and those changes persist for anyone who enters later. 3. Multiple people and AI agents can coexist in the world and see it from different perspectives. This is early research, but it's looking really promising. Colmap 4.0 was very recently released, so it inspired... me to do some work to better understand it and its new capabilities with Rerun. I want to really understand how Colmap, and in particular, pycolmap, works outside of just calling it via the CLI. So my goal is to use the low-level pycolmap API to log every part of the pipeline. The explicit goal is to have an alternative to the SQLite database that I can utilize. Instead of SQLite, I want to try logging everything directly to rerun and use RRD. This means I can have deep inspectability and still save the features/matches/2D view geometry, but be able to view it directly in rerun. I think this is one of the superpowers that rerun provides; data and visualizations are deeply integrated. As I'm often working with sequential data (videos), I'm going to specifically focus on four things: 1. Monocular Video Simple: Calls high-level APIs such as pycolmap.extract_features, pycolmap.match_sequential, pycolmap.incremental_mapping. These are basically identical to the CLI options and provide a good baseline. 2. Monocular Video Streamed: Take the above high-level APIs and break them down to their iterator version, logging each component in a streamed manner. This way, I can stream the intermediate features to rerun while the extraction/matching/mapping is happening. 3. Rig with unknown calibration: <- WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS This is probably the most interesting version and the first one I've been working on. It allows one to set a rig between known sensors, such as in VR/AR devices, leading to much better reconstructions with multiple cameras. This is the case where we don't know the calibration a priori, so we have to run a reconstruction twice: once as a normal Colmap reconstruction with no rig constraints, use this to generate the constraints, and then do it again with the newly found rig. 4. Rig with known calibration: This is the RoboCap example, where we have a pre-calibrated set of sensors, so we don't need to run the two reconstructions and also gain better matching between cameras, both spatially and temporally. Again, this leads to a much better reconstruction! Along with all this, GLOMAP has become a first-class global mapper, making it super easy to use directly within pycolmap! I'm excited to do more with this and compare it to things like pycuvslam, vipe, and other alternatives.show more

🧐 At this point, Billboard's latest "Top 50 Songs... of 2026 So Far" list feels less like an objective ranking and more like another example of the music industry and media attempting to minimize Drake's success. Let's be serious for a second. Drake released a No. 1 album in 2026, generated some of the biggest streaming numbers of the year, dominated online conversations, and continued to be one of the most commercially successful artists in music. Yet somehow Billboard couldn't find room for any of the biggest records from that project inside the Top 10. But an unreleased Jay-Z freestyle from the Roots Picnic landed at No. 7. Make it make sense. This wasn't even an official single. It wasn't commercially released. It wasn't a chart-dominating record. It wasn't a song fans were streaming for months. It was a basic freestyle performance that generated a few headlines because people were debating who Jay-Z was taking shots at. Meanwhile, Drake's first appearance on the list doesn't arrive until No. 18 with "Shabang." And what makes it even more interesting is Billboard's write up itself. Instead of simply explaining why the freestyle ranked so highly, the article almost reads like it was written specifically to elevate Jay-Z while taking subtle shots at Drake. 💬 “Jigga had everyone talking about who he dissed and why for like two weeks straight.” 💬 “Now we wait and see what Drake has to say about some of the jabs sent his way.” The obvious question is: 🤔 Since when did two weeks of social media discussion become more important than actual chart performance, streaming numbers, sales, and commercial impact? Because if cultural conversation is now the standard, Drake has been one of the most discussed artists in music all year. If commercial success is the standard, Drake should be much higher. If streaming numbers are the standard, Drake should be much higher. If chart performance is the standard, Drake should be much higher. So what exactly is the standard? That's why many fans continue to believe there is an effort within parts of the industry and media to downplay Drake's accomplishments. Every time Drake breaks records, the conversation becomes about somebody else. Every time Drake has a successful release, the focus shifts to a narrative. Every time Drake reaches another milestone, there seems to be an attempt to explain away the achievement instead of simply acknowledging it. And this ranking feels like another example. An unreleased freestyle being placed ahead of records from one of the biggest artists of the year isn't just questionable it raises legitimate questions about whether these lists are actually based on music or whether they're being influenced by industry relationships, personal preferences, and predetermined narratives. Of course, Billboard is entitled to its opinion. But when a No. 1 Drake album struggles to place songs in the Top 10 while a freestyle performance is treated like one of the defining records of the year, fans are naturally going to question the credibility of the ranking. 💭 “To some Drake fans, moments like this fuel the belief that there’s an industry network of gatekeepers whether it’s powerful media figures, executives, or influential artists who consistently seem to move in lockstep whenever Drake is the target. Seeing an unreleased Jay-Z freestyle ranked above songs from a No. 1 Drake album only adds to that perception. Some supporters even describe it as a ‘secret society’ mentality, where certain media outlets and industry power players appear quick to elevate narratives that benefit Jay-Z and others while simultaneously downplaying Drake’s accomplishments. A single E. coli cell, placed on a dish,... will become 70 billion cells in just 12 hours. That’s exponential growth. But a new preprint shows that it's possible to engineer E. coli to grow linearly instead, where only one daughter cell continues dividing and the other stops. First, some context. In nature, there is a bacterium called Mycobacterium smegmatis (initially discovered in 1884 in ulcers scraped from syphilis patients.) M. smegmatis is weird because it divides asymmetrically. These cells grow only from one end, and all their cell wall biosynthesis machinery is located on that one end. So when the cell divides, one daughter gets this machinery and the other gets nothing. The daughter that gets the machinery can keep dividing immediately, but the other daughter has to remake all that machinery from scratch, so its growth is delayed. E. coli doesn’t grow like this. When it divides, it pinches in the middle and splits everything evenly. Enzymes, metabolites, and proteins get partitioned more or less randomly between the two daughters. For the new preprint, though, researchers engineered E. coli to behave more like M. smegmatis. Here is how they did it: First, they deleted a gene called cyaA, which encodes an enzyme (adenylate cyclase) that makes a molecule called cAMP. cAMP is SUPER IMPORTANT! It is a nutrient sensor that instructs E. coli to switch on genes that help it digest non-glucose carbon sources when glucose is scarce. Without cAMP, E. coli cells growing on alternative carbon sources will starve; they won’t know how to eat the food. Next, they added back a “split” version of the cyaA gene into the cells. In other words, they split the gene in two so that each half of the enzyme is made separately. Cells can only make cAMP, and thus eat non-glucose carbon sources, if these two halves come together. To facilitate that “coming together,” the researchers also fused the split cyaA proteins to sticky proteins that clump together, and to a fluorescent protein (to make it easy to track these molecules in the cell.) So now some interesting things start to happen if you grow E. coli on a growth medium lacking glucose. As the cell grows, its cyaA “halves” start clumping together into a giant ball. Inside the aggregate, the two enzyme halves come together and make cAMP. And when the cell gets big enough and divides, the clump of cyaA RANDOMLY goes to either daughter cell #1 or #2. The daughter that gets the aggregate (called PA+ in this paper) can keep dividing. The daughter that doesn’t (PA–) cannot. It still grows a few times — about four divisions — because it inherits some leftover cAMP from its mother. But after that, the metabolite is diluted away, and the cell stops growing. PA+ cells went through about 23 divisions on average before their aggregate decayed. And the population of cells, as a whole, grew linearly. This paper is cool because there are many applications where exponential growth is too unpredictable and, perhaps, unsafe. If you want to engineer bacteria to deliver drugs, clean up waste, or live in the gut, you don’t want them to double uncontrollably. This paper shows you can make them expand in a controlled, linear way. Alas, mutations could break this whole engineered system. A mutation that restores cyaA, for example, would give cells a new way to make cAMP. Mutations that make the aggregates split between daughters would break the asymmetry, too. But still, I really enjoy proof-of-concept engineering papers like this.show more
