Love this play on 1st & 10 by Jaxson... Dart to Montrell Washington. Vertical concept out of EMPTY with a bender by the No. 3... Dart had the back-side No. 2 Olszewski underneath, but Dart kept his eyes deep and placed the football to the backside of Washington, away from the incoming defender.show more

I just noticed that Andy Pages has a new... "best catch of the year" according to catch probability, and it's a great example of how watching the advanced stats can tell you things you won't get from watching on TV. This was the last play of the game last Wednesday. Bogaerts hit the ball 102.3 MPH at a 15° launch angle, and Pages covered 45 feet in 2.9 seconds and did it so efficiently he didn't even have to leave his feet. Couple of things from this final play… 1) Ryan... Williams ran a good route. Seen some ask about or criticize it. This wasn’t on him. 2) VanDeMark getting driven back 5-6 yards didn’t give Ty the ability to step into this throw. Big reason why Ty couldn’t drive it in there and it came up short. 3) No guarantee Ryan makes this play, even if Ty could’ve gotten more on it. Peyton Bowen does a nice job reading it, but Ryan would’ve at least had more of a chance.show more

Here, with Workman on second, Zach McKinstry hits a fly to left that lands, and Workman is thrown out 7-5 at third base. This was ruled a single, and the question has been asked as to why. First, this is the correct scoring, as this is a single. If this were a ground ball to short, and the runner is out 6-5 at third on a ball that would have otherwise been a hit, this would have been a fielder's choice, and the difference is in the wording on rule 9.05(b)(3), which says that you do not score a hit when a: (3) pitcher, the catcher or any infielder handles a batted ball and puts out a preceding runner who is attempting to advance one base or to return to his original base, or would have put out such runner with ordinary effort except for a fielding error. The Official Scorer shall charge the batter with a time at bat but no hit; The key is in the McKinstry play, the ball is handled by an outfielder, and not the pitcher, catcher, or any infielder. Another one of those fun weird scoring rules that is great to have in your back pocket for when it comes up.show more

It's hard to describe how impressive of a play... this is by Makuba. The Chiefs are running a makeshift mesh combining their Bootstrap concept with Rash (@ Rub) backside. Normally Makuba would have help leveraging the shallow from Baun in a Lurk coverage, but because Mahomes had taken off when he saw man coverage before, Baun is essentially spying and not worrying about cutting off any routes underneath. Makuba has to go over the traffic, then back down to finish the play on first contact behind the line to force the 4th down. This was his best play, in my opinion.show more

Watch as he hits his back foot; he eyes Dulcich's slant, with a subtle pump, drawing the outside fourth inward. This movement left Miller alone on the outside, and Dart took notice. Dart went from the stick: (No. 3) that drew two defenders underneath... To the slant (No. 2) that drew two defenders (Saf/deep fourth CB)...to Miller all alone. This is Marcus, and his accidental service dog, Gunner.... Marcus served 3 deployments to Afghanistan. For years, he’s woken up at 3am, drenched in sweat, convinced he’s in back in Kandahar. Gunner came to the family when his owner passed away, which was a neighbor of Marcus. On the first night they had him, Marcus had a nightmare, and Gunner immediately jumped on his chest, and laid on him. For the first time in years, Marcus didn’t thrash, and was able to just breath, despite almost 80lbs of weight on him. Gunner laid on him for 2hrs+ that night. Marcus’s wife had urged him to get help for years. She was able to catch it on recording, to show to his counselor. The counselor told them what Gunner was doing was called “Pressure Therapy”…which is what PTSD service dogs are trained to do. Gunner never had training. He just had instincts, and an instant bond. The term, “Man’s best friend” doesn’t cut it sometimes.show more
