Microsoft teases a faster and configurable context menu (right-click... menu) for Windows 11 after years of complaints! Marcus Ash, who leads Design and Research for Windows and Devices, says Microsoft is working on making context menus faster, simpler by default, and configurable to what you use most. That last part is huge. Windows 11’s context menu was supposed to fix the cluttered Windows 10 right-click menu. Instead, it became slower, padded, inconsistent, and still messy. You often need “Show more options” just to reach the old menu, which defeats the whole point of redesigning it. Now Microsoft is taking the same approach it used with Start and taskbar: give users control. Resizable Start. Movable taskbar. Smaller taskbar. Customizable Start sections. And now, configurable context menus. This is the Windows 11 reset users wanted 🥳show more

It's happening! Here's your first look at a movable... taskbar in Windows 11, coming soon. You'll be able to move and resize the taskbar on Windows 11, just like you did on Windows 10! It's still in internal testing, and to be clear, this video is from a virtual machine, which is why it might feel slow. Also, Microsoft won't use the right-click menu we're seeing in the video; it's only being used to quickly debug the feature. What else do you want Microsoft to improve in Windows 11? 👇show more

Watch: What happens to your CPU when Windows 11's... Low Latency Profile feature is enabled. CPU usage automatically spikes briefly to speed up the launch of Windows 11's Start menu, Notifications Center, Control Center, right-click menu, and other OS-level features. The same CPU boost is coming soon to Windows apps, which will allow them to load faster and briefly spike your CPU usage.show more

Microsoft's hidden Windows 11 trick makes apps launch 70%... faster. I tested it on a low-end PC, and early results are promising. Right now, when you click Start, open File Explorer, launch Edge, or right-click for a context menu, and there’s often that tiny micro-stutter before anything happens. Microsoft is now testing a feature called Low Latency Profile. Once turned on, and you do a high-priority action, Windows 11 briefly pushes the CPU to max frequency for 1–3 seconds, finishes the task faster, then drops back down. In my testing on a constrained VM with just 2 cores and 4GB RAM, the difference was obvious. Edge, Outlook, Copilot, and the Start menu opened much faster. CPU usage spiked to around 96–97%, but only for a few seconds. For high-end PCs, the difference may be small. But for budget laptops and low-end Windows 11 machines, this could be a real game-changer.show more

Microsoft is testing a new feature in Windows 11... called Low Latency Profile that gives a short boost to your CPU for 1 to 3 seconds when you open apps or menus. Early tests show Microsoft apps like Edge and Outlook open up to 40% faster, while the Start menu and other menus can load up to 70% faster, with CPU use jumping high for a few seconds then dropping right back down. Microsoft says this is normal because Apple does it in macOS and Linux, plus phones use the same type of quick CPU boosts for better speed. The feature is only in early Insider testing now, so it is not out for everyone yet.show more

Windows 11’s June 2026 Patch Tuesday update is out... today, and the biggest change is Performance, not AI. Windows 11 KB5094126 finally brings Microsoft’s new Low Latency Profile to everyone. Microsoft calls it a “General Performance” improvement, but the idea is simple: when you open Start, Search, Action Center, or key shell experiences, Windows briefly pushes the CPU to max frequency for 1–3 seconds so the UI responds faster. I tested it earlier, and the difference is most obvious on budget PCs. Start feels snappier, Search opens faster, and those tiny Windows 11 micro-stutters are reduced. The catch: because of Microsoft’s Controlled Feature Rollout, installing today’s update does not guarantee it is enabled yet. You can verify it with HWiNFO by watching CPU frequency spikes while opening Start.show more

I bet you've never noticed this ultra-cool but rather... complicated "cone of prediction" at the center of Windows context menus? It allows the system to predict that you're aiming for a flyout. Well, that's because Windows (at least in the old days) didn't do any such fanciness. It just uses a timeout of 400ms, and it's always worked pretty well. It's even adjustable (SPI_SETMENUSHOWDELAY) these days, but used to just be 80% of your double-click speed setting. So the faster your reflexes were - per that setting, at least - the shorter your menu flyout allowance. No cone needed. ( I stole this from a Raymond Chen hockey card that I keep tucked up in my 50 Mission Cap ).show more

Microsoft's new Outlook takes more than 10 seconds to... open an email via notifications, while Outlook Classic opens instantly on Windows 11! The funniest part? If I ignore the notification, open Outlook manually, find the email myself, and click it, I can finish faster than the notification flow. It's all because Outlook for Windows is literally Microsoft Edge running Outlook .com in a browser window. New Outlook runs through WebView2 with around 10 separate processes: GPU process, service worker, utility processes, manager, and more. It uses roughly 490MB to 636MB RAM while idle, compared to Outlook Classic sitting around 117MB to 148MB. CPU usage is also worse: around 4% idle on new Outlook versus under 1% on Classic in my testing. Microsoft shut down Mail and Calendar, keeps pushing enterprises toward this web wrapper, and still wants people to believe it is the future of email on Windows. SHAME!show more

A guy in Vancouver built an entire operating system... inside a Chrome tab. By himself. Over six years. His personal website is the OS. You open and a Windows-style desktop loads. File explorer. Start menu. Taskbar. You can drag in a zip and extract it. You can play DOOM. You can play Quake III Arena. You can boot Linux from an ISO. You can run Stable Diffusion locally for image generation. You can open a Python terminal. You can edit code in Monaco, the same engine that powers VS Code. All of it runs in your browser tab. Nothing installs. His name is Dustin Brett. Self-taught engineer. Father. Husband. 4,473 commits. All his. He had to swap the Windows icon for the π symbol because of legal pressure. The repo has 12,883 stars. MIT license. His hosting bill is one dollar a month. A single Cloudflare CDN does the rest. This is what the open web was built for. (Link in the comments)show more

I've been testing out Windows 11's new Haptic Signals... feature on compatible hardware, and I think I love it. I'm someone who yearns for small UX details like this, and I'm so happy to see Microsoft leaning into subtle but quality UX implementations like haptics across the Windows Shell. These new Haptic Signals provide a subtle bump when interacting with certain UI elements and actions, such as snapping app windows or dragging files in File Explorer. The feedback response feels great and intentional, and makes using the OS feel more satisfying. There's still room for improvement, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed with this first implementation. It's only supported on a handful of devices for now, but that should change over time. I've always loved the haptic feedback layered throughout Google Pixel phones, and now Windows is getting its own version of it. More UX niceties like this, please!show more

Holy shit... someone built a free portable tool that... activates Windows, kills the bloatware, and shuts down every telemetry service Microsoft buried in your OS. It's called GTweak. One .exe file. No install. No subscription. You download it, run it, and your Windows is finally yours. Every "Windows debloater" before this made you pick one trade-off. Activate but keep the spyware. Debloat but lose update control. Disable telemetry but break Defender toggles. GTweak does all of it inside a single portable executable. Here's what makes it different from every Windows tweaker that came before: → HWID + KMS activation built in, no sketchy batch scripts, no Massgrave links, no PowerShell one-liners pasted from a Reddit thread → Removes Cortana, Copilot, Recall, OneDrive, Edge, and every pre-installed UWP app on Windows 10 and 11 in one click → Disables keyloggers and telemetry across Windows and NVIDIA including the data collection tasks hiding in Task Scheduler that nobody talks about → Blocks Microsoft's shadow domains at the hosts file AND firewall level so the OS literally cannot phone home → Disables Defender, SmartScreen, Antimalware, VBS, and UAC with proper toggles instead of registry hacks that break on the next update → Pauses Windows Updates entirely and wipes the cached update files Microsoft refuses to let you delete → Kills Teredo, ISATAP, and IPv6 along with the diagnostic services running silently in the background → Activates the hidden Ultimate Performance power plan and fixes the Realtek audio delay bug nobody at Microsoft has patched in 5 years → Runs custom .ps1, .cmd, .bat, .reg scripts with TrustedInstaller privileges, the highest permission level Windows has → Built-in hardware monitor, NTFS compression, RAM cleaner, and secure Windows.old wipe Killed: $30 Windows 11 Pro keys, every "debloat script" repo with 47 forks and no maintenance, the $5/mo "PC optimizer" garbage running on YouTube ads. Works on every official Windows build since 10 (18362.116). One .NET Framework 4.8 dependency that's already on your machine. BSD 3-Clause License. 100% Opensource.show more

Claude Mobile starts the idea... Ghostty finishes it I... basically use Claude Mobile as a notepad now. Whenever something comes to mind, I open the app, pick a repo, and ask Claude to start exploring. Then I just let it run while I go on with my day. Later I jump into Claude Desktop and I’m right back in the same session, with context, structure, and a clearer shape of the idea. I tweak a few things to set up the coding phase. Finally, one click to Ghostty (video), open a couple of worktrees, and start working on the PR. Microsoft presents Windows Agent Arena Evaluating Multi-Modal OS Agents... at Scale discuss: Large language models (LLMs) show remarkable potential to act as computer agents, enhancing human productivity and software accessibility in multi-modal tasks that require planning and reasoning. However, measuring agent performance in realistic environments remains a challenge since: (i) most benchmarks are limited to specific modalities or domains (e.g. text-only, web navigation, Q&A, coding) and (ii) full benchmark evaluations are slow (on order of magnitude of days) given the multi-step sequential nature of tasks. To address these challenges, we introduce the Windows Agent Arena: a reproducible, general environment focusing exclusively on the Windows operating system (OS) where agents can operate freely within a real Windows OS and use the same wide range of applications, tools, and web browsers available to human users when solving tasks. We adapt the OSWorld framework (Xie et al., 2024) to create 150+ diverse Windows tasks across representative domains that require agent abilities in planning, screen understanding, and tool usage. Our benchmark is scalable and can be seamlessly parallelized in Azure for a full benchmark evaluation in as little as 20 minutes. To demonstrate Windows Agent Arena's capabilities, we also introduce a new multi-modal agent, Navi. Our agent achieves a success rate of 19.5% in the Windows domain, compared to 74.5% performance of an unassisted human. Navi also demonstrates strong performance on another popular web-based benchmark, Mind2Web. We offer extensive quantitative and qualitative analysis of Navi's performance, and provide insights into the opportunities for future research in agent development and data generation using Windows Agent Arena.show more

Sure, but the idea of simplifying the appearance of... Fortnite, the locker and the shop are all going in the exact opposite direction of simplicity. Equipping cosmetics takes double, if not triple the clicks. The UI is impractical and janky, not to mention the introduction of buttons and drop-down menus that were far easier to access previously. Selecting a skin to rotate it, preview it or even spin it around now requires clicking on it, which then applies it to your loadout. Previously this needed a confirm button so you could preview and choose skins, backblings etc without loosing your currently equipped on if you want to go back. Wraps are not included as part of a character's preset despite being completely relevant to the skin worn. Changing emotes, lobby tracks, and all cosmetics now means you have to back out and change tabs, something that could have previously been done on 1 page. The sectioned tabs make sense with new types like LEGO Kits, Cars, Instruments but there's no need to separate Character from Wraps, Emotes or Lobby. Archiving or Favoriting items can no longer be done in batches or quickly. Previously all you had to do was click once per cosmetic on the button but now you have to enter a drop down and select it for every individual item. Applying wraps to all slots now requires a drop down menu rather than simply clicking the button at the bottom. Swinging a pickaxe or redeploying a glider is near impossible to do and feels like more of a chore to actually accomplish with the drop-down menu. It overlays onto other items meaning as soon as it's clicked the menu vanishes and switches to another cosmetic before the animation can even begin. Cosmetics in the locker can be searched by seasons using "S1-17" but after S18+ they no longer filter. Entering the drop-down menu or right-clicking anything in the locker accidentally immediately takes you all the way back to your currently equipped item when exiting. The filter menu requires an "apply" button to be pressed rather than simply closing and applying when selecting one of the filters, taking longer and more clicks to simply find your recent items or remove a filter. The filter menu was also better as a side panel so you don't have to move your cursor to the center of the screen and back every single time. As a side panel it also allowed for more options to be displayed, whereas the current one requires a huge scroll bar to simply filter by favorite. The presets menu scroll wheel also zooms the skins in and out as you scroll up and down the list. Because of the randomize preset button, the list compared to when saving a preset is all moved up by 1, becoming disorientating to where the preset was in relation to the rows. The shop no longer displays item descriptions or set names on cosmetics - now requiring a click on each individual item when there is adequate space to do so. The new shop and locker appearance can be accustomed to, however, it NEEDS the basic functionality and user-friendly UI elements that the previous ones had. Simple buttons at the bottom to favorite, swing, redeploy and equip. Less tabs to switch between, less clicks required to complete simple tasks and less feeling like there's a battle against the UI itself just to equip the cosmetics you paid for. We appreciate the moves the renew the locker and shop, but in terms of functionality and user interaction, there is nothing we want more than the old one back or the old one's elements merged into the new appearance. Thank you.show more

CoinMarketCap AI Is Live: What Does It Really Change... ? 🌱 In the fast paced world of crypto, information is power but its often scattered, delayed, or hard to trust. CoinMarketCap newly launched CMC AI aims to fix that by offering real time insights with no friction. ✨ Real Time Q&A on Coin Pages 🌱CMC AI is now integrated into major coin detail pages, generating automatic Q&As every 30 minutes. During periods of volatility, it updates dynamically, helping users understand price movements with short and structured explanations. No login required, no delays. 🌱However, while this speeds up the process, its not a substitute for deeper analysis. It answers the “what” and “why,” but not always the “what’s next.” ✨What’s Coming Next? 🌱CMC AI is just getting started. According to its roadmap, several new features are on the way • Homepage Integration: A quick view of market trends and opportunities, without clicking into individual coins. • Live Chart Analysis: AI will add context to price moves by linking them to news, sentiment, and social media. • Token Comparison Tool: Users will be able to compare tokens like BTC vs SOL across utility, performance, and tech specs. • Portfolio Insights: One click portfolio analysis with rebalancing suggestions and market outlooks. • Cross Device Continuity: Start an AI conversation on desktop and continue it seamlessly on mobile. ✨A Tool Not a Strategy 🌱 CMC AI brings speed and clarity, two things crypto investors often lack. But it’s still just a tool. It won’t make decisions for you. It helps guide your thinking not replace it. 🌱 The smartest way to use it? Treat it as a compass, not a map. It can point you in the right direction, but the journey is still yours. 🌱 CMC AI represents a step forward in how users interact with crypto data. It filters the noise, shortens research time, and brings useful context closer to the user. But like any shortcut, it works best when you already understand the long route.show more

We just released a new marketing site and I... wanted to talk through some of the changes that we made and why. Design thinking is the other side of the feed, it's usually more nuanced than the flashier parts and typically doesn't hold up as well to a quick scroll. Doesn't bode well for this thread! But, this will be my attempt to talk through the changes made and why. First up, this is our new hero. At Loops.so, our goal right now is to be the only platform you need to email your users The H1 matches that intention and the subheader reinforces it. We also wanted it to be clear we ship fast and often, so we added a pill showing the latest featured changelog. Agents are part of how people build software today, so we wanted to give that the second most important placement on the page, right after signup. Finally, the logo strip should not distract too much, but it should still help people understand these are users, not just logos. So we added the date of first payment from Stripe next to each logo. Next up, more things!show more

With ChatGPT Atlas, we aim to push the boundary... of what a browser can be — integrating ChatGPT and evolving it into an agent that takes action for you. But even as we build that future, the basics still matter. For most people we talk to, their tab strip is overflowing with too many tabs (mine certainly is!). This week's Atlas release: revamped tab search and a new 'auto organize' your tabs button. Click to remove duplicates, merge windows, or let ChatGPT group your tabs in a way that makes sense. Just hit “update” in the top right to try.show more

This is a wild moment inside the cockpit, just... 2 minutes after leaving Florida. At 150,000 feet, the sky was gone from light blue to black, and the ride on the huge, solid rockets has been violent, jamming us up through the air. Suddenly there's a blast of pyrotechnics. Even though we're going Mach 5, the air is so thin the explosion arches out in front of the windows. Now being pushed by just the 3 Shuttle engines, the ride goes smooth, with a huge feeling of relief - getting rid of those solids means you're much safer, and halfway to orbit. I've done it twice.
