As anticipated, a mesoscale #vortex developed along the East–West... monsoon #ShearZone near the #Palghar–#Manor region, significantly enhancing the local monsoon dynamics. 🌧️ The strengthening of this vortex resulted in a sharp pressure fall over the #Mumbai region, with mean sea-level pressure dropping to around 997 hPa. Simultaneously, strong convective winds accompanied the system, with wind gusts of up to 80 km/h reported at #CSMIA, according to #METAR observations around **10:30 AM. From a #rainfall perspective, precipitation associated with such vortices is always challenging to forecast because the heaviest rainfall often becomes highly localized and depends on the exact position and movement of the circulation. Nevertheless, as indicated in the earlier outlook, there was potential for 300 mm-plus rainfall where the vortex became anchored, and that scenario has now materialized. The most intense rainfall overnight was concentrated over the southern quadrant of Mumbai, parts of North #Raigad district, particularly #Panvel, #Khalapur, #Matheran, #Karjat, and the adjoining #Sahyadri Ghat sections, including #Khandala to #Tamhini, where extremely heavy rainfall was recorded. Following the passage of the most intense phase, rainfall has reduced to intermittent drizzle across many areas, accompanied by breezy conditions as the vortex gradually weakens. Looking ahead, #atmospheric conditions remain favourable for heavy rainfall until 7 July, with Raigad district and Mumbai currently appearing best placed for further significant rainfall. Thereafter, rainfall prospects over #Thane and Palghar districts will depend largely on the future movement and positioning of the monsoon shear zone. If the primary vortex-induced event has already peaked, these regions are likely to continue receiving generally heavy rainfall upto 250 mm may be if any, although the probability of another widespread 300 mm-plus event may reduce unless a fresh mesoscale circulation develops. #WeatherAnalysis #WeatherUpdate #KonkanWeather #Maharashtra #July #SWM2026 #Monsoon2026 #MumbaiRainsshow more

Sunday, February 23, 2025, 3:00 PM PDT: A significant... shift in the pattern from 90° temperatures in the next 2 to 3 days across much of Southern California and the southwest. A shift in the main Pacific Jet stream axis is just approximately 230 miles due west of the Hawaiian islands and Marshall Island corridor. A series of strong Pacific storms that are trending one right after the other this particular series of storms may produce similar to what we had a couple of weeks ago that brought significant rainfall to our region. I’m watching the details as this emerges this upcoming week as we transition into March 2025. This is also known as the pinnacle of Hollywood’s award season, which is on March 2, 2025, which is next Sunday already. Higher confidence is growing in potential for at least over an inch of rainfall. Possibly higher rainfall amounts first week of March 2025. This still is being looked at closely in the next 24 to 36 hours from San Francisco to San Diego, California. The hardest-hit areas trending are San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles counties. Many burn areas from Pacific Palisades to Altadena will have to keep a close eye on this developing weather situation over the next few days as this evolves. #CAwx #CaliforniaStormsshow more

🚨 The Western US is about to get RAILED... by Snow. This begins early next week as an Atmospheric River of Moisture absolutely BLASTS the West Coast. ❄️ The heaviest Snow will fall in the Sierra Nevada, where up to 100 inches, nearly 8 FEET, could pile up mainly Monday through Wednesday. 🏔️ Heavy Snow is also likely in the Rockies, where places like Colorado and Utah have been STARVED for Snow. Multiple waves of Moisture could bring 1 Foot or more over several days. 🏔️ The Cascades get in on the action too, with up to 1 Foot or more possible. Some Snow arrives this weekend, with another stronger round next Wednesday. 🌧️ Lower elevations in California and Washington could see Flooding Rain, with localized totals pushing 3 inches or more. Overall, this is WELCOME news for our West Coast brotheren who have seen very little Snow over the past month. 👊 Enjoy the Snow and Rain, my brotheren.show more

⚠️ Our Storm is going into absolute LUDICROUS MODE... tonight as BOMBGENESIS is fully underway. ⬇️This Blizzard is DROPPING Pressure like Weight on a KETO Diet and is expected to shed another 18mb in just 12 hours. For context, meteorologists define rapid intensification as a 24mb drop in 24 hours. Our Storm is on pace to drop over 40mb in 24 hours. This is EXTREME Rapid Intensification 💨 As pressure PLUMMETS offshore, the Storm will begin SUCKING air toward its center like a vacuum, causing Winds to really CRANK. ❄️ As the Winds strengthen, a HUGE swath of Heavy Snow continues spreading across the Northeast, with snowfall rates SOARING up to 3 to 4 inches per hour. 📏Places in New Jersey have already picked up close to 10 inches of Snow, with DOUBLE that still possible before this is over. There's even LIGHTNING STRIKES near the center of the Storm, which is sign of rapid strengthening. The stronger this Storm gets, the worse the impacts become. 👊 Hang on tight tonight, my brotheren. 🇵🇭 PHILIPPINES BRACES FOR ANOTHER SUPER TYPHOON Just days... after Typhoon Tino wrecked Cebu and killed over 200 people, another monster is on the way to the Philippines, and this one’s aiming for the island that holds Manila. Typhoon Fung-wong, locally named Uwan, is spinning with winds up to 185 kph and could slam into Luzon on Sunday night. The last storm left half a million people in the dark, with power outages across central islands that could take weeks to fix. A storm of that magnitude will likely tear through the nation's capital, where millions of people are barely coming to terms with the last typhoon. Source: Reutersshow more

Moist Conveyer Belt Builds over Florida! And a big... shift too. The models are coming into much better agreement on a significant, but not deluge, rain event for West-Central Florida this weekend through next week. Heaviest totals will be along the coast. Emphasis “coast”. Expect on and off downpours - not always a washout - with the worst weather Sunday & Monday. Models show a widespread 2-4” Sanibel to Tampa to Crystal River to Panama City, but obviously with tropical bands/ downpours some spots will see much more with some localized flooding too. *BUT there’s been a noticeable shift “West” into the #Gulf next week with the moisture blob pulling away. So the spigot shuts down more quickly from Tampa southward by Tuesday. #florida #stormshow more

Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 8:42 PM PST: IR satellite... shows a 545 DM low pressure that is undergoing intensification just 245 miles Northeast of the Hawaiian islands. This is a strong indication of a shift in the trajectory of the secondary low-pressure center combined. The strong, Pacific jet extension axis point is aimed directly at Southern California. There is now considerable high confidence that the developing storm will transfer heavy rainfall subtropical moisture that will be drawn up into Central California and Southern California by Monday evening. These abrupt developments started occurring very rapidly in the last eight hours and quickly switched the forecast to a stronger storm scenario setting up. More details will continue to evolve in the next 24 hours to 36-hour period. #ElNino #Califoniastormsshow more

❄️An OBSCENE amount of Snow is about to DUMP... in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with the heaviest still to come. Over 72 inches of snow could fall on Christmas Day alone. An almost nonstop stream of Pacific moisture will continue for the next 48 hours as an atmospheric river remains locked in. 🗻Some Mountain locations have already picked up 1–2 feet, with snow falling at 1–3 inches per hour at times. 🚗Travel in the mountains will remain difficult to impossible as heavy snow and strong winds create near blizzard conditions. 🎅When people asked for a White Christmas… this might be too much of a good thing. 🌊🌧 #MumbaiRains #floods: Why was flooding so severe in... #Vasai, #Virar & #Nalasopara this time? 🌧️ The rainfall was exceptional across the entire region. Both Vasai-Virar and its surrounding river catchments witnessed very heavy to extremely heavy rains. However, the widespread flooding wasn't caused by rainfall over Vasai-Virar alone, it was the result of multiple factors occurring simultaneously, with enormous upstream river discharge, tidal locking and urban drainage systems struggling to cope with such unprecedented volumes of water. The Ulhas River, originating near Lonavala, received extraordinary inflows after its upper catchment recorded around 1569 mm of rainfall in just 3 days. Torrential rain across the Ulhas Valley, Pune Ghats and Thane interiors sent enormous volumes of water into Vasai Creek.🌊🏞 At the same time, intense rainfall over the Nashik Ghats ⛰️, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Shahapur and Palghar swelled the Vaitarna River, which drains into the sea just north of Virar. The Tungareshwar ranges ⛰️ also received torrential rain, with numerous streams and nallas adding further runoff into the Vasai-Virar drainage network. Meanwhile, Vasai, Virar and Nalasopara themselves were experiencing torrential rainfall of about 600-700mm in last 3 days, generating massive local runoff. The region was effectively jammed from both sides. Massive upstream river discharge coincided with high tides 🌊, also during Monsoon the seas remain already rough slowing the outflow into the Arabian Sea and creating a backwater effect that prevented creeks and stormwater drains from emptying efficiently. Such an extraordinary volume of water would have stressed any drainage system. However, rapid urbanisation, shrinking wetlands and mangroves, encroachment of natural drainage channels and increasing concretisation have significantly reduced the region's natural capacity to store and drain floodwater, making the impacts even more severe. This event was a classic example of record-breaking rainfall across multiple river basins, intense local rain, tidal locking and urban infrastructure struggling to cope with an unprecedented volume of water. Today, inflows into the river systems 🌊 remain high, and several areas may continue to experience waterlogging and flooding. However, with rainfall expected to gradually reduce from now, river levels should slowly begin to recede as the excess water drains into the sea. Even so, the impacts of this exceptional rainfall event are likely to persist for the next few days, especially in low-lying areas, until the entire drainage system returns to normal. 🌧️ #KokanRains #PalgharRains #ThaneRains Video credits: varun mundra & Vasai Virar Updateshow more

⬆️The NORTHERN TRENDS are holding (for now) in the... latest 12z model runs that came in just now. ❄️ Most Guidance now places the heaviest Snow Zone from Oklahoma through southern Missouri, Kentucky, southern Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and into the lower Northeast. 🌨️ Snow Totals in the hardest hit areas will likely accumulate to 6–12 inches, with someone likely topping a Foot+. ↕️More Shifts are still likely over the next 48 hours, so I’ll continue posting updates as trends evolve. 🧊 FREEZING RAIN STILL remains a major concern in the South, with devastating Ice Accumulations still possible in some areas. These northern shifts do NOT change the overall impact. This is still a HIGH IMPACT Winter Storm for millions. More updates to come. I’m pulling for EPIC Snow for all of you. 👊 See you on the next one, my brotherenshow more

We've now had two 2.5 x-flares from sunspot 4419... over the last 12 hours, both launching gigantic coronal mass ejections outwards pretty much in the direction of Comet C/2025 R3 PANSTARRS. Surprisingly we're not in a radiation storm yet, and plasma headed to Earth from these events seems to be minimal, but sunspot 4420 is nearly Earth-direct now and 4423 following just behind just blasted off a 1.7 m-flare. As Comet R3 PANSTARRS continues to fly across Earth-facing while cutting through the ecliptic plane just outside the orbit of Mercury, my forecast is that we're most likely to enhanced activity from 4420 and 4423 as well over the next 2-3 days. Keep in mind the comet will begin experiencing #spaceweather from the CMEs very soon, and that will energize it electromagnetically even further, perhaps pronouncing this Comet-Sun effect we're seeing even further...show more

The complete dewatering of Swami Vivekanand Sarovar #BandraTalao Ward... HW BMC has now exposed some uncomfortable truths - exactly the concerns repeatedly raised earlier. The emptied talao clearly shows there is no major sewerage connectivity flowing into the lake from surrounding areas, despite this being used as one of the justifications for costly interventions. What is now visible is equally important, the natural springs remain active even after complete dewatering, with water still percolating into the talao. This raises serious concerns, during desilting and dredging, what safeguards exist to protect these natural springs?? Any damage could permanently alter the talao’s ecology and even risk drying up this historic water body in future. If sewer inflow was not the real issue, was an expensive Sewerage Treatment Plant even required ? The declining water quality perhaps had more to do with decades of stagnation and lack of continuous aeration/oxygenation. Could sustained aeration have solved the issue at one-third the cost ? Sadly माझी Mumbai, आपली BMC often appears more focused on awarding big-ticket contracts than practical, sustainable solutions. Bigger question is after completion, who will maintain and operate this STP ?? Given माझी Mumbai, आपली BMC माझी Mumbai, आपली BMCInfra poor maintenance track record, will this become yet another expensive white elephant funded by taxpayers ?? Mumbaikars deserve answers. All these concerns were repeatedly raised... #Bandra #BandraTalao #Mumbai #BMCshow more
