One of my favorite exercises I’ve been doing recently... is the reverse lunge with a med ball twist. Unlike a heavy reverse lunge, I’m focusing less on pure strength and more on coordination, rhythm, and movement quality. A simple way to think about it: Heavy reverse lunges are a strength exercise, whereas reverse lunges with a med ball twist are a movement exercise. It won’t replace heavy strength training, but it provides a lot of athletic benefit with much less fatigue and soreness. For runners, that’s a big advantage. Heavy isometrics are the lowest-hanging fruit when it comes... to strength training for runners. There is no muscle damage, so they don’t make you sore. There is no technique or skill required, especially when you use a machine. Here I’m using the hamstring curl machine. After squeezing a relatively heavy weight for about 30 seconds, the hamstring muscle relaxes and the strain shifts to the tendon. Stronger tendons equal more force production, fewer injuries, and better running performance. It’s super simple. Hold a heavy fixed position for 30-60 seconds, then repeat for multiple sets if it’s a problem area. You can do these every day, multiple times a day. Isometrics are a game changer.show more

🚨 EARTH IS SPINNING SLIGHTLY FASTER AND FOR THE... FIRST TIME, SCIENTISTS ARE SERIOUSLY DISCUSSING A “NEGATIVE LEAP SECOND”. For decades, Earth’s rotation has been gradually slowing, which is why we occasionally add a leap second to keep atomic clocks in sync with the planet. But since around 2018–2020, something unusual has happened: Earth has been rotating faster than expected. Several days in recent years (including June 29, 2022) were among the shortest ever recorded by atomic clocks. This acceleration has forced timekeepers to consider something that has never been done before: subtracting a second from official time (a negative leap second) instead of adding one. Why this matters: • A negative leap second would mean clocks skip a second (e.g., jumping from 23:59:58 straight to 00:00:00) • It would be the first time in history this has happened • It could affect GPS, financial systems, telecommunications, and any infrastructure that relies on precise timing • The leading theory links the speedup to changes in Earth’s liquid outer core, though melting ice sheets are partially counteracting the effect The deeper implication: Earth is not a perfect clock. Its rotation speed is influenced by complex interactions between the core, oceans, atmosphere, and even climate change. Here’s a back angle of the same play. This... is a clean play IMO. I see some mild contact here, but no tackle “from behind” is performed which has been alluded to by some. Jakob is not a dirty player and has never proven to be. Kuithe plants with his left leg at the top of the route and you see a slight buckling inward of the left knee (valgus force which is typical in ACL tears.) This is normal contact with a TE/DB at the top of a route. Jakob disengages with his body after the initial contact. It appears to be a left knee injury. Possibly an ACL tear with some collateral damage based off the mechanism. Kuithe begins to hobble after the plant and eventually falls to the turf. Kuithe, in 2022 suffered an ACL injury and meniscus tear to his right knee. Data shows that once you’ve had an ACL Injury, there is a higher risk of injuring your opposite knee than your reconstructed knee. Furthermore, there is increasing data supporting the elevated risk of ACL injuries correlated to turf as well as style and type of cleats. My heart goes out to Kuithe.show more

The idea that lifting weights will stunt a child’s... growth is actually a myth that for some reason started and spread after a mid 1900s Chinese study to find out why child laborers on a mine in a remote region of China were on average signifigently shorter than their peers. The hypothesis was that it was due to carrying heavy loads out of the mines. However, the technology at the time could not confirm that as the cause, and the study was deemed inconclusive because they couldn’t tell if the cause was in fact the loads or if it was due to malnourishment due to the remote area in China, and all the time spent in the mines. Fast forward to 1999, Dr Avery Faigenbaum relooked at the issue this time studying a group of pre-pubescent children participating in resistance training vs a control group (Faigenbaum et al. 1999). Using modern technology )I believe he used MRIs) he found that the bone density was actually thicker in the trained group vs the control group, with no damage or negative impact on growth plates. Several hundred follow up studies have been done in the close to 25 years since and have all confirmed Faigenbaum’s findings. Resistance training (which includes weight training) causes bone density increases with no risk to growth plates. As such, even the American Association of Pediatrics as well as many other orgs such as National Strength & Conditioning Association and National Academy of Sports Medicine all encourage youth resistance training under qualified supervision. Just look at this river flowing all the way... from Tibet into India through Nelong Valley on the Indo-China border. The water here is unbelievably crystal clear you can literally see right to the bottom with the naked eye. And then, as it flows into India and becomes part of the Ganga River, we all know how drastically it changes. That contrast says everything. The purity here exists because access is strictly controlled only a few people with special permits are allowed.
