This is the worst art restoration in history. An... 81-year-old woman with no training did it. In broad daylight. With the priest's permission. And nobody stopped her. The original was called Ecce Homo, a small fresco of Christ crowned with thorns, painted around 1930 by the Spanish artist Elías García Martínez straight onto the wall of a church in Borja, in northeastern Spain. After eighty years the damp in the walls had begun to eat the paint away, so in 2012 a parishioner named Cecilia Giménez decided to save it. She was 81, she had loved painting all her life, but she had no training whatsoever. What she left on the wall was a blurred and wide-eyed face staring out of the plaster. When the town saw it, officials assumed the church had been vandalised, and reportedly considered taking legal action. Then they found out it was Cecilia. She could not understand the fuss. "The priest knew it," she told Spanish television. "I've never tried to do anything hidden." She also insisted she had not even finished. She had left the paint to dry and gone away for two weeks, intending to come back and complete the job. She never got the chance... Within days the image had crossed the planet. The internet named it Ecce Mono, and Monkey Jesus, and Potato Jesus, and turned it into thousands of memes. Not everyone was laughing. For the people who prayed in that church, it was not a joke at all. Some of them called it a desecration, and some called it blasphemy. Whatever the world saw in the image, they had lost the face they had knelt in front of all their lives. And people now travel across the world to see the thing that replaced it. In the year after the "restoration", around 57,000 visitors came to Borja, a town most of them could not have found on a map. I genuinely cannot understand how someone can watch this... story and still stand there, looking at two women, and somehow decide that the wrong one is the victim. On one side, you have a girl (Yıldız) who has been mistreated her entire life. Since the moment she was born, she was treated like a sacrifice for a conflict she was never even part of and later we find out that this conflict never even existed. Her right to study was taken from her. She was pushed into a marriage at a very young age just imagine being six, seven, eight years old, living in fear of being tied to someone you don’t even know. She was treated like a servant in her own home, by the very people she thought were her family. And just when she gets close to the happiness she dreamed of, the man she was engaged to shows up with another wife. She gets mistreated by that wife, by his family, and even (unintentionally) by him, because he was trying to run away from his own feelings, and that only caused her more heartbreak. The whole world was literally against her. She fought through all of that, only to find out in the end that everything she suffered for was based on something that wasn’t even real. Her entire life was built on a lie. That she isn’t even part of that family that she has literally no one in this world. Now on the other side… You have a girl (Melek) who, yes, was taken from her biological mother but she was raised by loving parents. She had everything anyone could wish for: education, freedom, a happy childhood, a healthy environment. She lived her life, fell in love, went out, made choices and no one questioned her, no one controlled her. And then what did she do? She found out that her man was engaged to another woman before marrying her (and even saw him marry her) and instead of holding on to her dignity, she chose to stay, to fight for a man who lied to her, to hold onto a marriage he tried to end multiple times. She used her unborn child to keep him tied to her. She lied constantly, and her excuse was that she was “protecting her marriage” a marriage that was already broken from the moment Serhat removed that ring at the airport in episode one. She tried to hand Yıldız (a woman who had already suffered enough) over to dangerous people. Then she found out the truth about her own birth (that her father ra*ped her mother.)And still no empathy. No moment of humanity toward her own mother. All she cared about was herself. And even though none of this had anything to do with Yıldız, she still found a way to blame it on her. Instead of holding her father accountable, she went and made a deal with him to get rid of Yıldız. She literally made a deal with the devil just to hurt Yıldız one more time. And after all of that… you want me to feel sorry for her? You want me to call her a victim? This is Cherry. Cherry is a young 4 year... old Doberman with a playful side, a smart mind, and lots of love to give to the people she trusts. She has a medium energy level, making her a great balance of active and relaxed. She enjoys walks, playtime with toys, and settling in for some downtime. Cherry appears to be housetrained and walks nicely on leash, which makes getting out and about together easy. She's also quite the student and already knows several basic commands like sit and down, plus a few fun tricks such as paw and roll over. She enjoys toys and natural chews, which are great outlets for her energy and curiosity. With familiar people, Cherry is affectionate and enjoys being near her humans. She can be a bit wary of strangers at first and may bark if someone approaches too quickly. With slow introductions and a little patience, she warms up nicely, often after the first one or two interactions. Cherry is still figuring out how to socialize with other dogs. While in the shelter, she has met both male and female dogs. She may start off a bit stiff and seems to have limited experience with dog play. As she relaxes, she can become more social, though her play style can be a bit pushy, and she has overcorrected when another dog approached her in a way she didn't like. Becaus of this, a dog-to-dog meet and greet is strongly recommended to ensure the right match. Cherry would do well with someone who appreciates a smart, engaging dog and is willing to give her time to build confidence with new people and experiences. my grandma is 85. she is a pillar of... her community in Lujan de Cuyo, a small town in Argentina where I was born. today, she got diagnosed with dementia. up until 4 months ago, she would cook fresh meals every single day, walk at least 10,000 steps at 6AM, and do pilates 3x a week. she took care of herself at the highest standard and took care of others just as intentionally. she is the wise matron of the family that has held us all together. she is the living definition of discipline and strength and warmth which is what I admired the most in her. my grandma would knit and bake and sell what she made to make ends meet when my grandpa abandoned her with 2 kids. when I came along she used to take me on long walks and share songs with me. she taught me her empanadas de carne recipe when I started living alone and cooking for myself. through her lifestyle and her choices she taught me that there is no excuse, and there are no shortcuts. you can be 85 and take care of yourself like you’re 25. and you can do all of that on top of raising children, being a sounding board for others, and holding the entire family together. i can’t believe how fast her dementia has progressed. i am genuinely stunned. having my grandma change so suddenly from the superwoman that she’s been my entire life is a new type of pain that i did not emotionally prepare for. life is precious, our mind is precious. i’m lucky to have had 27 years with the most wonderful present version of my grandma.show more

Angie….Wow. This has taken me a couple of days... to digest. I had the pleasure of knowing this queen since the very beginning of my true musical journey. I was looking for a background singer and sax player for my first club tour and she walked into my life at an audition. I instantly knew that I was in the presence of greatness. We did a tour together and became family. Being from down south (as we called it) she reminded me of my grandmother and her people who were from a small town in Georgia. We bonded over music, humour, and southern cuisine which she cooked with great joy. She knew her food tasted better than everyone else’s and it did. She had a phrase that I loved, "Lenny, I am overly confident". She believed it and so did I. She went on to become Angie Stone and changed the face of music as a solo artist, becoming known as the queen of neo soul. She already had an illustrious past but this was now HER time. As a black woman who was told she was not the right age, not the right look, etc she busted through and never looked back. The rest is history. Writer, producer, arranger, musician and master vocalist. The best of the best. I got to play on some of those great recordings and they are treasures in my mind and spirit. "My dad passed away two summers ago, and his... old Irish setter, Ruby, still swims out from his dock every evening. Dad had a little place on the lake, and every night after dinner, he would walk down to the end of the dock with a cup of coffee and Ruby right behind him. They would sit there together and watch the sun disappear over the water. She was his shadow for 11 years, and wherever he went, she followed. After the funeral, we brought Ruby back to my house in town because we thought keeping her close to the family was the kindest thing to do. But she never settled in. She stopped eating properly, paced through the halls at night, and spent hours standing at the back door as though she were waiting for someone. After a couple of weeks, my mom finally said what the rest of us had been avoiding. “That dog needs to go back to the lake.” Ruby lives at the lake house now, and my mom stays out there with her. Almost every evening, around the same time Dad used to take his coffee down to the water, Ruby walks slowly to the end of the dock. She stands there for a moment, looking across the lake, before carefully stepping into the water. Then she swims one slow loop beyond the end of the dock, passing the same stretch where Dad used to cast his fishing line. When she comes back, Ruby climbs onto the boards, shakes the water from her coat, and walks over to the place where Dad always sat. She lowers herself down in that exact spot and faces the sunset until the last light disappears. The vet says there is nothing physically wrong with her. She is simply an old dog keeping an appointment she has kept for most of her life. We still drive out there most weekends. But on May 31st, 2024, and June 7th, 2024, Olivia received disbursements from the Allred campaign. What changed, sister? Olivia recently claimed that her dad "voted Republican all his life". And "In 2018 he voted for Ted Cruz". This is false. I found his voting records using two separate systems. And the answer was the same. Records show that her father did not vote until 2020. He did NOT vote for Ted Cruz in 2018. In a TikTok video just a few days ago, Olivia brought up "being 14" and "rooting for Trump". Interesting that she brought up this exact age! Because photo evidence shows that in 2016, when Olivia was 14, her dad posted a "proud moment" to his daughter on his social media, with 14-year-old Olivia showing her "project" that showed she was not for Trump. She can no longer live the same way. She has to dress more modestly, stop seeking attention online, and give up behavior that disrespects the marriage. Marriage introduces responsibility…often for the first time in her life. She now has to consider her husband’s feelings before making decisions. She must wake up early, raise children, prepare them for school, and put someone else’s needs ahead of her own. Last week my family & I had the privilege to join Indigenous Nations from across the Amazon basin & around the world as they came together for a truly historic & deeply beautiful moment at the Indigenous Ayahuasca Conference in Acre, Brasil, where Indigenous leaders shared their ancient wisdom, beautiful art & wonderful energy with each other. As someone who has built infra in Brazil, I can confirm that what Refik Anadol and the Yawanawa family have built in Aldeia Sagrada is absolutely breathtaking & indescribable. The infrastructure & organization of their wonderful community is incredible. They have proven to the world a model for synergistic alliances between traditional Indigenous nations with new technologists, creatives and builders that can both massively support these native communities as well as celebrate the preservation of their way of life. I found myself overwhelmed with emotion at points throughout the week witnessing how amazing this place and these people are.
