JUST IN: Derek Chauvin is calling his trial a... "sham" while speaking out to the media in his first public comments since the death of George Floyd. The comments from Chauvin is featured as part of a new documentary, The Fall of Minneapolis. The documentary suggests the FBI altered Floyd's autopsy as noted by the film's producer, Liz Collin. Collin suggests the FBI was involved with altering the autopsy report to assert that Chauvin killed Floyd by kneeling while the original report did not mention asphyxiation. During an interview with Collin, Chauvin called the trial a "sham" and blamed the ambulance for taking too long to respond to the call. Chauvin also referred to the Maximal Restraint Technique (MRT), the technique he was trained to do and claims he used. "This isn't the end and this won't define me. What's been done is done and I just hope that at the very least on the future people keep an open mind and not let instances like this happen," he said. "Just use my case an example as to not jump the gun knee jerk, not fall to this race-bait, to the social media, to the media, and let them get away with what they do if things like this keep happening."show more

During this Press Conference I was at the FBI office with my agents working on a cartel prosecution. We all stopped to watch with amazement as Comey was initially eviscerating HRC’s unlawful conduct, but as we all now know he eventually stated “no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case!” I remember turning towards my agents and saying “well, I guess I’m an unreasonable Prosecutor . . .” I knew in that moment at my deepest core, based on years of prosecutorial experience and instinct in federal law enforcement, that the reason Comey cleared HRC had nothing to do with the prosecutability of that fact pattern - it was political interference in its most corrupt form. And here’s why. Comey had NO authority to decline prosecution. At the end of the day, he was “just a cop” so to speak. His ONLY authority was to turn the investigation over to the DOJ which has sole discretion on who to prosecute, or not. He can make a recommendation, but not a decision to not prosecute, especially based on the reason stated. That’s why this will go down as one of the most embarrassing and demoralizing moments in FBI history. My agents were crushed. They knew what just happened as much as I did. In 1944, a 14-year-old Black boy named George Stinney... was arrested in South Carolina. He was falsely accused of killing two white girls without a single piece of solid evidence, simply because he was the last person seen with them. He wasn't allowed to see his family, was interrogated without a lawyer, and "confessed" under pressure and fear. His trial lasted only a few hours with an all-white jury. Just 81 days after his arrest, he was executed in the electric chair. He was so small that his feet didn't reach the floor, so they had to place a Bible under him to make the straps fit. The most shocking part: he was innocent. In 2014, seventy years later, a court officially overturned the conviction and declared him innocent. But George never came back. His story became a symbol of racial injustice and the failures of the legal system—a child executed in the name of justice, but justice came far too late.show more
