6 Years Ago - August 10, 2020 Derecho: The... costliest derecho on record impacted much of the Midwest through the morning and afternoon hours six years ago today. This destructive MCS produced an extreme swath of severe winds, with a peak wind gust report of 126mph near Atkins, Iowa. 27 tornadoes were confirmed from the complex, most of them in Northern Illinois. Unfortunately, 4 fatalities were confirmed from the complex. This derecho resulted in over $11 billion in damages.show more
