Think Solar panels are "Green"? think again. Making solar... panels requires toxic chemicals, huge amounts of energy and water, and creates toxic waste. The common types (mono- and poly-crystalline panels) need extremely high heat at every stage of production. For example, temperatures of 2,700°F to 3,600°F are required just to turn sand-like silicon dioxide into usable silicon. Up to half of that silicon is then wasted when the thin wafers are cut. For every 1 megawatt of solar panels produced: About 1.4 tons of toxic chemicals are used (including hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and hydrogen fluoride). Nearly 2,900 tons of water are needed. 8.6 tons of pollution are released—most of it from powerful greenhouse gases (SF₆, NF₃, and C₂F₆) that trap heat thousands of times more effectively than carbon dioxide. Other dangerous waste includes toxic gases like trichlorosilane and silicon tetrachloride, plus harmful dust from the cutting process. The thinner “amorphous” or thin-film solar panels are made with cadmium, a chemical known to cause cancer and damage DNA. By the end of 2016 the world already had about 250,000 tonnes of discarded solar panels. That was just 0.5 % of all electronic waste produced that year. The International Renewable Energy Agency estimates that by 2050 we could be throwing away 6 million tonnes of solar panels every single year, adding up to a total of 78 million tonnes. At that point dead solar panels could make up 10 % of all electronic waste, and the total amount of worn-out panels could be larger than all the electronic waste the world produced in 2018. Recycling is often presented as the easy fix, but it isn’t. It still uses large amounts of energy, water and other resources, and workers have to handle toxic materials that eventually need to be disposed of. Right now only two commercial recycling methods exist for solar panels, and there are just a handful of facilities that can do the job anywhere in the world. #GreenEnergyshow more

Only Africa Can Save Europe Originating from COP28, the... TeraMed project aims to generate 1 TW of solar energy in North Africa, creating around 3 million direct and indirect jobs. This would currently account for about 83% of the European Union's total installed electricity capacity, including renewables, fossil fuels, and nuclear (approximately 1.2 TW as of late 2025). If this target were raised from 1 TW to 1.5 TW, the European Union would more than double its current installed capacity of about 1.2 TW, reaching a total of roughly 2.7 TW, which would exceed twice the American capacity (around 1.3 TW) and near three-quarters of the Chinese capacity (around 3.8 TW). Based on TeraMed's estimates, it would require investments of $1 trillion, generating around 4.5 million jobs in North Africa and Europe. The installation project would take between 6-10 years, though it could be accelerated with aggressive engineering and strong political will. So far, in more than one year, TeraMed has not installed a single panel, highlighting the lack of coordination among Europeans in defining their energy, industrial, and economic policy priorities. With 1.5 TW of electricity generated, industrial costs in Europe would drop significantly, fulfilling the first stage to retain and attract industries. However, a second pillar would still need to be completed: natural gas. All current pipeline projects in Africa are timid, from Mauritania and Senegal to Mozambique. Investments of $20 billion and 20,000 km of pipelines would be required across several African countries, but primarily a robust Nigerian pipeline capable of transporting at least 70 bcm, which alone would meet 20% of Europe's demand. This is a project that would take at least 10 years, though it could be accelerated at the same pace as the solar panels. These are the reasons why the war must end, and Europe must get back on track. The cost of the war far exceeds the resources sent to Ukraine. Estimates suggest that total war-related costs, including aid to Ukraine, weapons, refugees, energy losses, and sanction impacts, exceed $1.5 trillion. For these and other reasons, I always say that warmongers are the true saboteurs of Europe. Moreover, engaging in free trade agreements like those with Mercosur or Indonesia won't help, as such high energy costs will make it difficult to compete in those markets as well. The Germans are desperately trying to offset losses with solar panels, but their efficiency is 2-3 times lower than panels installed in North Africa. Therefore, a supranational plan is needed. Installing panels alone won't solve the problem if they aren't efficient enough to restore industrial competitiveness and lower overall costs. Both investments in solar panels and gas would pay for themselves in just a few years, repositioning Europe to compete in the global market, and more than that, luring back companies that have already migrated to Asia. It’s green, industrial, and economic, and it generates both local and foreign jobs, bringing development and opportunities to these countries, just as the Chinese are doing in some countries.show more

You’re looking at thousands of studs that have been... jammed into the ground, on what was previously prime farmland, as they continue to build out Cider Solar in Elba and Oakfield, New York. The studs will hold the Chinese-made solar panels that were constructed and shipped with fossil fuels and rare earth minerals. Cider Solar is a massive 500MW industrial complex that will destroy 4,000 acres by the time they’re done. Since commercial solar only generates at 15% of its annual potential in Upstate NY (actually closer to 10% in Western NY), this 500MW complex will only generate 75MW of power when it’s all said and done. Thousands of acres gone. Soil compacted. Runoff reported. Chemicals sprayed to suppress vegetation. Animals displaced in every direction. And the history and culture of these towns destroyed forever. This is the type of shower that I installed... in my new Duplex in all bathrooms (4) Tenants just fall in love with them at first sight. Once you see this type of long panels in a shower you can’t go back to the usual small tiles. These long panels are quartz and they just look great and they’re cheaper than the normal small tiles. What an awful ending to prime farmland. Here’s just... a fraction of the panels that have been installed in Genesee County, NY. This is part of the ORES project: Cider Solar. They give these projects mocking agricultural names to try and trick locals into thinking this was good for rural Upstate NY. Another complex in Montgomery County carries the name “Cow Bell Solar.” This is one huge money-laundering operation in the form of green energy subsidies and credits. It’s going on between our state and foreign renewable corporations. Along the way, we’re losing the land that feeds us, forever. Wildlife is displaced in every direction. We all know that during the Crucifixion of Jesus... Christ, there was a solar eclipse. I tracked the eclipse and found that it occurred in the third month of the year 33, when Jesus was 33 years old. The eclipse was visible from the South Pole in the zodiac constellation of Pisces, the Fish, a symbol of Jesus Christ, announcing the beginning of the Age of Pisces and the rise of Christianity. I tracked the date and recorded the eclipse shown on the left. Exactly 2,000 years later, in the third month of the year 2033, there will be another solar eclipse. This time, it will be visible from the North Pole at the end of the zodiac constellation of Pisces, announcing the end of the Age of Pisces. What is particularly interesting is that the Morning Star, the planet Venus, is visible during both solar eclipses, exactly 2,000 years apart and in the same month. To make it even more intriguing, the eclipses are visible from opposite ends of the planet, the South and the North, representing the masculine and the feminine, the life force and the spirit! You’re looking at one of the most imperiled habitats... in not only New York State, but throughout the entire country. You’re looking at a grassland habitat. Grasslands are disappearing faster than any other habitat today. Why? They are “cleared” lands that developers love to target. Commercial solar and wind especially love grassland habitat for their green energy subsidies and credits. Here in New York, our Office of Renewable Energy (ORES) redacts all documents related to the sensitivity of grasslands to protect foreign renewable developers. We’re losing grassland so rapidly that grassland bird species (and other grassland-dependent species) are one of the fastest declining groups of animals in North America. Over 50% of all grassland birds have disappeared since 1970, totaling to 700 million birds. Of those that remain, their habitat is disappearing faster than is sustainable. That’s why this Fort Edward Grassland has so many distinctions, like being a National Audubon Important Bird Area. It all meant something until ORES was created. Now this grassland is for sale to foreign solar developers. The green energy movement is a lie. We must protect what remains of America’s grasslands.show more

NEW ROBOT: SOLAR PANEL DEPLOYER 🌞 San Francisco Gritt... (a.k.a. Gritt AI) is probably one of the hottest robotics startups you have never heard of. Founded in 2023 by two CMU roboticists, it came out of stealth on July 21, 2026 with a $26M Series A ,led by Obvious Ventures . Gritt does not make robots. It bolts an off-the-shelf Kawasaki robotic arm onto heavy equipment for construction, and runs its own AI to unload utility-scale solar panels. They also carry them, and set them onto metal racking with sub-millimeter precision. A human then has to fasten them. It replaces the manual overhead lifting of ~100-lb glass panels on solar farms. Solar is for now their only market, but they will expand to data centers (of course) and other large infrastructures. Solar was chosen first because it's the most factory-like task on an outdoor site. Gritt is making the bet on buying, while most of its competitors are building the robots. Their own capex is therefore near-zero, and moves the scaling constraint to ops crews and software -> it does not make it necessarily easier! All depends where your strengths lie. Gritt has currently two systems deployed in the field, over signed contracts to install ~2.8–3 GW of solar over 18 months. They plan to reach 48 systems within six months -> a ~24× deployment ramp in half a year! Gritt says the first skills took weeks to train but rebar tying took a single day on the same software pipeline after the solar work. That's a ~10–30× drop in per-skill training cost! And goes against the idea that deployment data is near-worthless, since novelty is the scarce input. Also worth mentioning: Gritt has a Chinese competitors, Trinabot. Trinabot is vertically integrated: tied to Trina, a giant Chinese solar-panel maker. Make the panel and the robot that installs it, while Gritt's hardware-agnostic. Interesting to see another example where China integrates manufacturing plus robot, and the US startup goes capex-light software on rented equipment.show more

Status update: having coffee on top of the cooling... tower of a mega waste incineration plant in Chongqing. Literally. I'm at the Chongqing Sanfeng Yulin waste-to-energy incineration plant, one of the largest in China. When traveling abroad, some people like to visit museums or amusement parks, I'm more into garbage treatment facilities 😊 That's actually a pretty cool thing in China: you can visit many industrial facilities, they often have a small museum attached that tells you about the history of the place, and how it works. This particular facility is pretty impressive: it treats 3,000 tons of waste daily, which is the amount of the amount of waste produced by 3 million people. With this waste, it produces enough energy for 200,000 households. When you visit you can see the actual garbage dump pit, which looks insane, as well as the central control room (both on video).show more

Since my account is somewhat anonymous I’m going to... disclose where some of the California high-speed rail money gets wasted. 99% of you don’t realize where giant chunks of the money is disappearing to. The California high-speed rail authority, literally owns thousands of parcels of land that are in various stages continued litigation, tenant improvements, eviction, and constant maintenance. For example, there are many homes and apartment complexes in the plant path that have been purchased years ahead of construction. Removing those tenants is a slow and expensive process. (let’s ignore the extra stress on housing that all of these destroyed properties are causing) In some cases, these are low rent apartments with a lengthy eviction process During that process, the state of California is the landlord and has to maintain the property codes the same as any other landlord. This means repairs, adding smoke detectors, fixing roofs, vegetation management, landscaping, paying off tenants to leave early, boarding up Windows, constant trash cleanups, towing vehicles etc. But the High Speed Rail Authority doesn’t just have to maintain these properties at normal cost. Every single bit of that work has to be done at California prevailing wage rates. The work can only be done through qualified contractors that have passed through a long series of idiotic mazes to qualify to perform the work. An average rate per hour (charge rate) for a worker to perform any service on these properties is approximately $200 an hour for labor only. The cost go up for specialized work, like electricians, plumbers, or machine operators. Properties that are literally worthless are being maintained at huge expense just so the next round of homeless transients can break into the property and cause more damage. For reasons I can’t explain, the process to finally demo and remove the structures takes years. I’m only mentioning the tip of the iceberg regarding my firsthand knowledge. Completely separate from those outlandish costs are the inflation caused by the construction. The prevailing word on the street is that nothing is getting done. The truth is that a lot is getting done and none of it efficiently. The amount of concrete being poured daily and monthly to build gigantic overpasses for both the rail and roadways is not understood. In these work areas, every concrete mixing company is fully scheduled out and cannot offer building materials for other basic services such as building a house often times for weeks when the average lead time for many of these services used to be one day. And that’s just the schedule, never mind the huge cost increases from straining the supply chain and Labor pool. The amount of concrete and steel that has gone into the structures so far is massive. Dozens and dozens of new water wells have been dug just for dust control. Thousands upon thousands of acres of highly productive tree fruits and nuts have been torn up and shredded. Utility scale solar fields have been uprooted and sometimes relocated at extravagant costs. Every type of business you can imagine has gone through either a closure, relocation, or a long-term tenant agreement with the rail authority. In some cases, it’s just a buyout where the business closes its doors forever. The owners get something all of the workers get nothing. Don’t get me started on how thick the layers of bureaucracy are for these minute tasks that occur on all of these properties. The inefficiency is far beyond your wildest dreams. In many cases, this is not related to fraud in any way it’s just absolute ignorance, red tape, and failed leadership. I can go much deeper into specific examples, but I think that gives some of you an idea of what’s actually happening in California. If a rail is ever usable, some portions of the structures will be decades old and already in disrepair.show more

China's economy is growing three times faster than that of the USA. China leads in almost all areas of science, and has the best infrastructure the world has ever seen. The main bronze door of Milan Cathedral weighs 37... tons and took a single sculptor 10 years to complete. The Duomo of Milan is one of the largest and most intricate cathedrals on earth, and its five bronze doors were built to be worthy of it. Every inch of the great central door is covered in sculpted bronze, dozens of scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, faces caught mid-emotion, figures that seem to press forward out of the metal as if trying to step into the world... It was designed by the sculptor Ludovico Pogliaghi, who received the commission in the 1880s and did not see his door installed until 1906, having poured a decade of his life into modelling every figure by hand. And his was just the beginning. The five doors of the cathedral were not made together, or even in the same lifetime. They were created across nearly seventy years, by a succession of different sculptors, each carving their panels with the same obsessive care. The final door was not completed until 1965, its unveiling taken as the symbolic close of a cathedral that had been under construction, in one form or another, for 579 years... More than a century ago, the English polymath John Ruskin tried to put into words what it means to build something like this. He managed it in a single sentence. The Sabotaging Practice of Over Supply and Sameness in... the NFT Space. The current zeitgeist of the NFT space is that the same artists are doing the same kind of work five times a year, with project after project leaving a trail of disappointment and discontent among collectors and all of us watching in disbelief as huge resources are extracted from the space over work that feels like it could be left as an "artist study." I understand that you can do what you want with your money as collectors, but we are killing the whole space with this incestuous practice. No artist is that prolific to be able to do 5 collections of 100+ pieces each every year and actually deliver innovation and some kind of creative evolution. Of course, they can pretend play that the work has something new, but there is no precedent nor proof that that has ever happened in the speed that it happens in the NFT space. Again, people are free to through away their resources on whatever they want but with this way of doing things, we more and more are going to start seeing the consequences. Oh! There are consequences? Yes. Maybe unintended, but there are. Let's see. Let's start with the loss of belief in the NFT space as somewhere where emerging artists can come and find support for their experiments. Why even bother to bring experiments, innovation, and new ways to think of art on the blockchain if the same people have all the collectors hypnotized with their magical flutes? Why even try to come to a space where taking risks and challenging the status quo (the mission of art!!!) is overlooked? This makes the NFT space a social club and not a space for art. I guess it is fine, but IMO it is a recipe for disaster. New collectors stay away because the art will slowly but surely become stale and un-challenging. Why even bother to come and see what is happening here if you can't, as a collector, see new weird and up-and-coming artists? The amount of noise emitted by the same artists doing the same art over and over, drowns out any new voices. Again. A recipe for disaster. The NFT space is becoming a space of disappointment and doubt. We think that collections going to zero one after the other, over and over, is not damaging? I feel we are kidding ourselves. Disappointment piles up, and again, the people who will hurt are the emerging artists, the new blood, the ones who are willing to risk the most and, in return, put fire in this cold space of sameness. I love this space—don't get me wrong—it has changed my life, and I believe it has a ton of potential, but things need to change for it to become a beacon of light in art. But we need to support new voices. We need to support new ideas. The challenge is huge. I hope to contribute all I can to this change. I hope more and more see how exciting it is to go out and try to discover what else is out there and move this space forward. We truly risked our lives to reach this place, as it is located very close to military deployment areas, and the road was extremely dangerous at every moment. We have now started our new project to provide clean drinking water, and this truck is heading to one of the most dangerous and heavily affected areas. The work is exhausting and extremely tiring, but the need for clean water cannot wait.
