A landmark moment for gibbon conservation in India! 🐵... A male Western Hoolock Gibbon was today recorded crossing the canopy bridges with safety nets over the railway line in Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary. This is the first confirmed use by a gibbon in the Sanctuary — and the first documented use of a canopy bridge structure over a railway line anywhere in the world! The bridges were designed and deployed as a mitigation measure for the electrification works on the existing single-track Lumding-Dibrugarh railway line passing through the Sanctuary, during February-March 2025. A proud moment for all stakeholders and a ray of hope for mitigating the impacts of linear infrastructure on India’s only ape. However, long-term solutions — careful infrastructure planning and eco-conscious siting and creating reforested corridors to connect isolated populations — remain critical for the long-term survival of exclusively arboreal and threatened species like gibbons. Grateful to the Assam Forest Department and all partners involved in the design, deployment, and continued monitoring of the canopy bridge structures. 23 Years of Tiger Massacre: International Poacher Kalya Bawariya... (Aadin Singh) Still Active Through Network The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department arrested an international wildlife trafficker, Kalya Bawariya, last year. He was a resident of Karauli district in Rajasthan and had been involved in this criminal activity for the past 23 years. This man, along with his gang, was responsible for wiping out the tigers of Sariska. At that time, he was working under the notorious international trafficker Sansarchand. He virtually emptied Sariska of tigers. He also carried out indiscriminate poaching of almost all tigers in the Ranthambore-2 and Karauli ranges, and a significant number of tigers in Ranthambore itself. During that period, Sariska had been reduced to zero tigers, while Ranthambore was left with just 16 tigers when it received the status of a Tiger Reserve. Later, after becoming the most wanted criminal in Rajasthan’s forest department, Kalya Bawariya fled the state and continued operating his gang through local small-time traffickers in the Gadchiroli districts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, as well as in Chhattisgarh. During interrogation, he confessed to poaching 50 tigers and over 100 leopards in recent years. These hunts involved local hunters from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. However, many of these poachers are still operating underground and continue to harm wildlife. A large number of police and forest department personnel are also allegedly involved in this network, yet both the Forest and Police departments have so far failed to apprehend these wildlife criminals and their sleeper cells. Until concrete and strict action is taken against these individuals, it is impossible to truly revive wildlife in this region. For this, it is essential to form a joint task force comprising officials from all three states (Maharastra , Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh). There is an urgent need to appoint top officers in this area who genuinely love and care for wildlife. At the same time, it is equally important to strictly transfer incompetent, lazy, and anti-wildlife officers from these sensitive zones. This will not yield immediate results, but it will lay a strong and effective foundation for long-term wildlife protection. #tigerprotectionact #bigcatalliance #wildlifeawareness #tadobatigerreserve #chattisgarhwildlife #wildlifeindangershow more

Gujarat sees a GIB chick after a decade, through... a novel conservation measure - the jumpstart approach, coordinated by the Ministry, State Forest Departments of Rajasthan and Gujarat, and Wildlife Institute of India. Envisioned by PM Shri Narendra Modi ji in 2011 to conserve GIB in its natural habitats including Gujrat, Project GIB was launched in 2016. As a result the number of birds in conservation breeding centres, started at Sam and Ramdevra in Rajasthan, have reached 73 with addition of 5 new chicks in this season and we are moving ahead towards rewilding of birds in near future. In achieving another milestone, a female GIB, tagged in August 2025, had laid an infertile egg in Kutch, as this population has lost all its males long back. In a major trans-state conservation effort, a captive-bred GIB egg from the conservation breeding program in Rajasthan was transported by road over 19 hours in a handheld portable incubator and was replaced in the nest on 22 March. The female completed incubating this fertile egg and hatched it on March 26. The field monitoring team found the young chick being reared by its foster mother. This effort is among one of the many steps to recover the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard populations. With the commitment to save GIB, we are making great progress in India’s conservation journey. Congratulations to all scientists, field officers and wildlife enthusiasts who made this possible. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the survival of the chick. At the same time we remain committed to leaving no stone unturned to make the endeavour successful. 🎥 The GIB takes a stroll with her chick.show more

PCG and BFAR Deploy Assets to Support Filipino Fishermen... in BDM and Escoda Shoal The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), has been actively deployed in Bajo de Masinloc and Escoda Shoal since yesterday. The primary objective is to ensure the safety and security of Filipino fishermen in these areas while distributing fuel, ice, and food packs to extend their fishing operations as part of the Kadiwa para sa Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda (KBBM) Program. Yesterday morning, the PCG monitored a group of fishermen being harassed and prevented from fishing near Bajo de Masinloc by Chinese Maritime Militia vessels and Chinese Coast Guard vessels 3103 and 3303. In response, the PCG vessel BRP Cabra, along with ten (10) BFAR vessels, were immediately dispatched to rendezvous with more than 30 Filipino fishing vessels. Upon arrival, the Filipino fishing boats received fuel subsidies and expressed gratitude to the national government for the support. Notably, the fishermen also reported an unidentified drone flying overhead, seemingly documenting their activities. Additionally, both the PCG and BFAR confirmed that Starlink connections are disconnected upon entering within 12 nautical miles of Bajo de Masinloc. In Escoda Shoal, Filipino fishing boats contacted the PCG vessel to report harassment by Chinese Maritime Militia and Chinese Coast Guard vessels 4203 and 5303, which prevented them from continuing their fishing activities. The PCG vessel BRP Cape Engaño proceeded to their location to provide security. As of this update, the PCG vessel remains in the vicinity to ensure the Filipino fishing boats are not harassed and are safely protected. PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan reiterated his commitment that the primary priority of PCG vessels deployed in these areas is to promote peace, stability and rule of law, while fulfilling the goverment’s responsibility to safeguard Filipino fishermen. This is in furtherance of the standing guidance of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., to assert the nation's rights firmly without provocation, while prioritizing the protection of our fishermen.show more

Long message, but trust me, it will be worth... your time. Here is a remarkable update from Tamil Nadu’s tagged turtles. Early tracking data shows that some have already travelled to the Sri Lanka Dome, a little known ocean region where marine life gathers in extraordinary numbers. What makes this even more astonishing is that turtles migrating from Odisha are also expected to arrive in the same waters. Species from distant coastlines are converging at one natural marine hotspot shaped entirely by the rhythm of the ocean. The Sri Lanka Dome is created by powerful seasonal ocean processes that bring cool, nutrient-rich waters to the surface. This fuels plankton blooms and attracts turtles, fish, whales, seabirds, and countless other marine species. It is one of the most productive upwelling zones in the world’s oceans, beginning in May, reaching its peak in July, and declining in September. At that time, the turtles move out of the region and begin their return migration once again. These journeys reveal that turtles do not belong to one shoreline or one state. Their lives depend on a CONNECTED ocean, where feeding grounds, migration corridors, and breeding beaches all matter equally. Places like the Sri Lanka Dome remain unknown to most people, yet they are among the most important ecosystems in the Indian Ocean, like hidden engines that sustain marine biodiversity. The message from these turtles is clear. Conservation cannot stop at the beach. It must extend across borders and across seas because wildlife knows no boundaries 🙌🫶 With inputs from Dr Suresh Suresh Kumarshow more

Six Bangladesh nationals, including two minors, were detained at... Subhas Park in Tripura's Khowai district on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, Police raided a guest house and found that the six Bangladeshis were staying there. During preliminary interrogation, they made contradictory statements and could not provide any valid ID proof. The detainees later admitted to entering India illegally a month ago and travelling all the way up to New Delhi in search of work. They illegally got hold of Aadhaar, PAN and EPIC cards. In the meantime, about a month ago, Hon'ble Lieutenant-Governor Shri V.K. Saxena’s office intimated the Delhi Chief Secretary, Delhi Police Commissioner, and other Senior Officials, regarding a sudden spurt in the number of illegal immigrants in the national capital. The LG’s Office asked the Delhi Police Chief to conduct a special drive for one month for the identification of illegal immigrants and take further action in coordination with Central agencies. Following this, like many other illegal Bangladeshis & Rohingyas who fled the National Capital fearing identification and ultimately detention, these 6 illegal Bangladeshis too returned to Tripura to cross over to their home country but were caught. They have been identified by Tripura Police as Ayesa Khatun (70), Mohd Kabir (37), Tania Begum (35), Mumin (23), Mohd Sakib (6) and Sahida (5). All of them hail from Feni district in Bangladesh. Several Indian ID cards, which they had obtained fraudulently, were recovered from their possession. I would like to wholeheartedly thank Hon'ble LG of Delhi and Delhi Police for taking strict action and cleansing the National Capital from the menace of Illegal Bangladeshi Rohingyas. Simultaneously, the efforts of the Assam & Tripura Police must be lauded for nabbing the illegal immigrants and infiltrators. Over the last five months, more than 570 Bangladesh nationals and over 63 Rohingya have been arrested by Tripura and Railway Police, besides BSF. On the other hand, look at the video from the Swarupnagar-Hakimpur Bangladesh Border area in WB, where local TMC leaders facilitate illegal entry of at least 100 infiltrators per day. Swarupnagar, in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, shares a 42 km border with Bangladesh. 32 km is land border and 10 km is riverine border, all of which is unfenced, as because Mamata Banerjee refuses to provide land, required for the border fencing. गृहमंत्री कार्यालय, HMO India Himanta Biswa Sarma Prof.(Dr.) Manik Saha BSF NIA India ANI Press Trust of India DD News डीडी न्यूज़ Republic IndiaToday TIMES NOW News18 Hindustan Times The Times Of India The Hindu India TV ABP News NDTV Deccan Chronicle Deccan Herald The Indian Express Republic Bangla Times Now Navbharat NDTVindia Republic Bharat - रिपब्लिक भारत News18 Hindi News18 India AajTak India TV India TV Hindi Dainik Bhaskar Dainik Jagran Dainik Jagran Amar Ujala Oneindia News Oneindia Hindi asianet Hindustan Rajasthan Patrika NBT Hindi News ABP Ananda zee24ghanta TV9 Bangla Zee News Republic Bharat - रिपब्लिक भारत TV9 Bharatvarsh News Nationshow more

STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL TASK FORCE FOR THE WEST... PHILIPPINE SEA 9 December 2023 Manila, Philippines The National Task Force West Philippine Sea (NTFWPS) vehemently condemns the illegal and aggressive actions carried out by the Chinese Coast Guard and Chinese Maritime Militia against the civilian Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) vessels Datu Sanday, Datu Bankaw, and Datu Tamblot today during a regular BFAR humanitarian and support mission of providing oil subsidy and grocery packs to over 30 Filipino fishing vessels near Bajo De Masinloc in the West Philippine Sea. As of this reporting the mission is on-going. Based on the reports received, as the BFAR vessels approached 1.4 to 1.9 nautical miles from Bajo de Masinloc, the Chinese Coast Guard ships utilized water cannons to obstruct and prevent BFAR vessels from approaching the Filipino fishing vessels eagerly awaiting the oil subsidy and grocery packs. The water cannons had been used at least eight (8) times at the time of reporting. Additionally, the Chinese Maritime Militia vessels are reported to have engaged in dangerous maneuvers and deployed what is understood to be a Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) against the BFAR vessels - causing severe temporary discomfort and incapacitation to some Filipino crew. Water cannon action have resulted in significant damage to BFAR vessel Datu Tamblot's communication and navigation equipment, as it was directly and deliberately targeted by the China Coast Guard. The Task Force likewise denounces the deployment of Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to disperse and drive away Filipino fishing vessels eagerly awaiting the distribution of fuel subsidies and food supplies from the BFAR ships. To prevent the distribution of humanitarian support is not only illegal but also inhumane. Moreover, Filipino fishermen have reported and documented the Chinese Coast Guard launching a small boat early this morning to illegally install a floating barrier at the southeast entrance of Bajo De Masinloc. The actions of Chinese Coast Guard and Chinese Maritime Militia hindered the BFAR vessel from accessing the entrance of the shoal. We stress that Bajo de Masinloc is a high-tide feature with territorial sea, per the 2016 Arbitral Award. It forms an integral part of the Philippine national territory under the Constitution. The Philippines exercises sovereignty and jurisdiction over the shoal and its territorial sea. The 2016 Arbitral Award has also clarified that Filipinos have traditional fishing rights in the water of Bajo de Masinloc protected by international law. China's illegal exercise of maritime law enforcement powers, interference with Philippine vessels, harassment and intimidation of Filipino fisherfolk, or any other activity that infringes upon the Philippines' sovereignty and jurisdiction in Bajo de Masinloc are violations of international law, particularly UNCLOS and the Arbitral Award. We firmly insist that these Chinese vessels leave Bajo de Masinloc immediately. We demand that the Chinese government take immediate action to halt these aggressive activities and uphold the principles of international law and desist from actions that would infringe on Philippine Sovereignty and endanger the lives and livelihood of Filipino fishermen who have traditionally fished in the area. The NTF-WPS remains committed to protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea.show more

I have gained experience over a long period of... time, and based on that, I am sharing this with all of you. Tigers that leave Bandhavgarh and move into territorial forests do not find safe habitat at all in the forests of Shahdol and Anuppur districts. Similarly, tigers coming out of Panna often reach the forests of Sagar and Katni, where they face a major threat to their safety. In the same way, in the Balaghat Territorial Forest Division (both northern and southern ranges) adjoining Kanha Tiger Reserve, there is absolutely no safe habitat for tigers. Nauradehi holds the tag of being the largest tiger reserve, yet tigers are not safe here either. Madhav Tiger Reserve has never been favorable for tigers from the beginning—past experiences in this park have not been good. The route that tigers use while coming from here towards Rajasthan is also unsafe for wild animals. Yes, the arrival of cheetahs has somewhat increased the movement of monitoring teams in this area automatically. We think that tigers have developed the habit of living with humans or amidst villages, but the reality is exactly the opposite, which we are completely ignoring. In the past 3 years alone, 140 tigers have fallen prey to poaching in Madhya Pradesh. And the surprising thing is that Madhya Pradesh is the only state where 380–400 tigers are present in the territorial (non-reserve) forests. “This number of tigers is more than double the total tiger population of Rajasthan.” Some of these tigers do move in and out of reserve forests or share boundaries with them, but most of them live entirely outside protected forests, without any security or monitoring. This is an extremely worrying issue. Today, tigers have completely distributed themselves across both the Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges in Madhya Pradesh. Whatever new initiatives and innovations the state and central governments are bringing for their protection, in reality, they are either insufficient or are not being properly implemented on the ground. If nature has blessed the earth with such a beautiful and powerful creature, then it is the duty of every individual to protect it. Our country is fortunate that 75% of the world’s wild tiger population resides in India. I got a bit emotional, so I felt it necessary to write all this. If you like what I’ve said, please share it. #bandhavgarhnationalpark #kanhatigerreserve #madhavtigerreserve #Ranthambhorenationalparkshow more

A deeply disturbing incident has come to light from... Indore Airport, where a female passenger alleges that she was harassed and mistreated by an Air India staff member during what should have been a routine boarding process. According to her account, the staffer snatched her boarding pass, behaved aggressively, and even threatened to call security without offering any explanation for denying her boarding. Matters escalated further when he allegedly attempted to snatch her phone as she tried to record the incident for her own safety. What makes this ordeal even more alarming is that she was travelling alone at night, feeling vulnerable and shaken, yet the airport security personnel standing right beside her remained completely passive, offering no assistance or intervention as the situation unfolded. Instead of safeguarding a passenger in distress which is their primary duty the authorities stood by in silence, effectively allowing the harassment to continue unchecked. The passenger further mentioned that when she attempted to document the incident, she was subjected to even more intimidation and harassment, creating an environment of fear and helplessness. It was only because of the support extended by fellow travellers who witnessed the unacceptable behaviour firsthand that she was ultimately allowed to board the flight. The staff had no legitimate grounds to deny her boarding, and their attempt to do so appears to have been an abuse of power and position. For someone who has been a loyal Air India customer for years, this experience has left her extremely distressed, shaken, and in complete disbelief. No traveller especially a woman travelling alone should be subjected to such disrespect, aggression, or unprofessional behaviour at an airport, of all places. This incident raises serious questions about the functioning of Air India staff, the training they receive, and the accountability mechanisms within the airline. It also reflects poorly on the airport authorities, whose silence and inaction contributed to the trauma faced by the passenger. When security personnel fail to protect passengers, it signals a dangerous lapse in protocol and a lack of responsibility.Airports are supposed to be secure, professional, and safe environments. Yet incidents like this expose a disturbing reality where misconduct goes unchecked, power is misused, and authorities look the other way instead of doing their job. If this is the standard of behaviour from airline staff and security officials, it is a matter of serious concern for all passengers who travel through such airports.Strong systems, strict disciplinary action, and zero tolerance for harassment are long overdue. Incidents like this should serve as a wake-up call for both Air India and the airport authorities to fix their internal culture, protect passengers, and restore public trust. #bangalore #bengaluru #indore Airports Authority of India Air India DGCA #airindia #aviation #dgca #airlines #assault #harassment #civilaviation #indigo IndiGo Indore Commissioner Collector Indore Commissioner of Police,Indore Madhya Pradesh Police S. Watch These Three Videos. In the first, the Chief... Minister of Assam calls a Congress politician a Gan*u. On camera. In public. Without apology. In the second, teenage girls dance to "Unki maa ka bhos*a" with hip thrusts that mime rape. In the third, a religious procession moves, thousands of men watching while women perform explicitly sexual acts while dancing on a truck (in the name of God). If you think these three things are unrelated, you haven't understood what Hindutva actually is. This is not crudeness. This is not a culture war about manners or etiquettes. This is a deliberate project, the systematic sexualization of Indian political and religious life, where the female body becomes spectacle and territory, where the language of violation becomes the language of faith and victory, where a Chief Minister and a religious procession share the same vocabulary. And it is thought out. I grew up in India, in a Hindu society. I never saw anything like this. This is not what Hinduism is. Whether you like it or not, Hinduism is part of every Indian's life. We grew up on Sunday morning Ramayan at 9 AM. The festivals of Diwali and Holi. The idea that good wins over evil. And so much more. It was simple. It was moral. It was universal. It belonged to all of us, even those of us who weren't Hindu. We had our own religions, our own prayers, but that moral code was shared. It was in the air we breathed. This is what is being hollowed out. Not just a religion, a common inheritance. That Sunday morning feeling. The idea that there is such a thing as good, and that it wins. Hindutva has taken that and replaced it with a truck, thousands of men, and women performing a sexual dance. This is Hindutva's deep perversion. It has taken a civilization's religious life and turned it into a mob spectacle. It has taken its political language and soaked it in rape. It has handed teenage girls a rape anthem and called it a dance. The slur is not a slip. The procession is not spontaneous. The choreography is not innocent. What is being built, across platforms, campaign rallies, and now religious processions is a political vocabulary where your opponent is not defeated but penetrated, where the enemy is not wrong but he is a Gan*u. When language and ritual are both sexualized to this degree, something specific happens to the people inside it: they stop seeing clearly. The violence stops feeling like violence. The degradation stops feeling like degradation. The opponent becomes pest. The procession becomes devotion. The rape joke becomes a rally cry. This is what the normalization is for. The filth is the mechanism. Run it long enough, from the Chief Minister's mouth to the temple truck to the religious procession, and an entire society quietly crosses a threshold it can never name, only feel. This is not Hinduism. This is Hindutva in it's ugliest form. And it's all connected.show more

I immensely thank Election Commission of India for initiating... steps to ensure fairness in the upcoming elections in Telangana. However, I am surprised how Election Commission missed out Superintendent of Police, Asifabad-Komuram Bheem District! While I have nothing against him personally, but the manner he was brought in by abruptly transferring a tough officer, Mr Kalmeshwar, IPS at the behest of Sirpur MLA, Mr Konappa is raising a lot of eyebrows! Police Officer or any officer for that matter in high position should not only maintain utmost integrity, but also appear transparent. If the district SP goes to a private trust, (Koneru Konappa Trust) owned by MLA which is built on the government land subverting rules and felicitates MLA in public gaze and serves food there, what kind of neutrality can we expect in the elections? While MLA’s family is actively involved in illegal Satta(Matka) and other illegal activities not even one case was booked against the culprits so far despite complaints to local police, how can a common man gather strength to go to the police station? In fact, SC/ST prevention of Atrocities act was recklessly used against political opponents in this district, at the behest of MLA! Three innocent student volunteers of Delhi University get kidnapped and thrashed by the MLA’s followers for no reason and it took almost 24 hours to register FIR in Kagaznagar Rural PS and I had to talk to three senior most IPS officers for that and police allowed the culprits to surrender after 72 hours! Most of the SHOs were appointed here after they produced the letters of endorsement of the sitting MLA! Can they be fair and neutral or will they show loyalty to their benefactor? Let's school the brain fogged PM on the performance... of Indian Banks. Narendra Modi walked into SRCC yesterday and delivered perhaps the first non-performing timeline in the college’s hundred-year history: "2008 में बैंकों का संकट आया था, तो तब की सरकार ने 2000 तक उस संकट के पीछे छुपने की कोशिश की थी।" According to Modi, a banking crisis arrived in 2008 and the govt hid behind it until 2000. Eight years backwards. Modiji has apparently taken the country so far ahead that even chronology has started moving in reverse. The 2008 global financial crisis brought down some of the biggest names in international finance. Between 2008 and 2013, 489 insured banks and thrifts failed in the United States alone. India was certainly affected through its stock market, exports and economic growth. But its banking system remained standing. NOT ONE INDIAN COMMERCIAL BANK FAILED because of the subprime crisis. The RBI recorded that Indian banks had no direct exposure to the American subprime market and that the Indian banking system experienced no contagion. That was not cowardice. That was prudent regulation and competent crisis management by the RBI and Dr Manmohan Singh's govt. If Modi wanted actual examples of banks reaching the edge, he could have looked at his own tenure. By the beginning of 2019, eleven public sector banks and one private bank had been placed under the RBI’s Prompt Corrective Action framework. The govt had to announce a ₹2.1 lakh crore recapitalisation package. In 2020, Yes Bank was placed under a moratorium after what the RBI described as its "rapidly deteriorating financial position" and "serious governance issues". It required an SBI-led reconstruction. Lakshmi Vilas Bank was placed under a moratorium and had to be amalgamated with DBS Bank India. PMC Bank depositors were initially permitted to withdraw only ₹1,000 of their own money after the RBI discovered major financial irregularities, failed internal controls and false reporting. The bank was eventually amalgamated with Unity Small Finance Bank. Under Dr Manmohan Singh, a global banking earthquake struck and no Indian commercial bank fell. Under Modi, depositors at crisis-hit Indian banks were told how much of their own money they could withdraw. One has to admire the audacity. He walked into the country's most prestigious commerce college, rewrote the history of the global financial crisis, erased the banking emergencies of his own tenure and expected the students to applaud. At WhatsApp University, this may pass as economics. At SRCC, it is a fraudulent balance sheet.show more

Air India B-787 fuel switches: seen a lot of... comments on "racism", "appeasement" to Boeing"; "Western superiority" in some comments, and, on my behalf, I assure you it is not. As seen on this simple video, there´s NO WAY the switches could move themselves. This is not based on this video alone - which clearly shows a mechanical lock, and the need to push up before moving it, as a fail safe - but also on the opinions of captains who fly the plane, technicians, safety experts, and also the simple fact that, despite dozens of B-787 operators worldwide, no one reported switches moving themselves. I said it here more than once: I´m not for conspiracies. You can hide the truth from one person, but to believe that dozens of pilots, investigators, technicians, lawyers, manufacturers, mechanics, etc... would all be duped this easily... seems a far cry. Mathematically alone, tricking all these folks, each with their reputations on the line, seems remote. Also, the source for yesterday´s "leak" is the " Safety Matters Foundation" - NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE prestigious Flight Safety Academy Foundation - appears to have an agenda to deflect blame on the pilots, despite all evidence (so far) pointing to deliberate action. (Also as a note, didn´t you find it dodgy that in 2026, with everyone and their dog having a 20 MP cellphone, the picture of the document, released by the said foundation, has such poor quality? You can hardly read what´s in there) I also find it strange that, on yesterday´s incident, given that, less than one year after a crash involving a B-787 with "supposed" malfunctioning fuel switches, the crew of the latest incident, instead of delaying the flight, and grounding the aircraft, simply opted to continue the flight. Short memory? I underline nothing against Indian Nationals - there are two readers here in particular - which I won´t nominate for privacy reasons - who are Indian Nationals and who always come to help with insightful opinions and respect, which I have in a very high regard. ("not seeing the forest for the trees"") Also, don´t think it was because the accident happened in India that I think less of the nation. Mental health in aviation has been a problem everywhere, the Germanwings is a sad example of that and I also think the attempts of cover-up lately, hinting it was not pilot suicide - by note, pushed by the pilot´s parent - were farcical.show more

Here is the New Year Amur Falcon Migration -Very... long Q&A Part II Q1. What is the longest non-stop distance covered by these satellite-tagged Amur Falcons? A: Published tracking shows Amur Falcons can do multi-day, non-stop flights of approx. 5,600–6,000 km during the India→Africa leg, depending on the individual & year. Also, peer-reviewed/technical tracking confirms their open-sea crossings can be about 2,364–3,138 km (Somalia↔India), typically completed in roughly 44–80 hours. Q2. Do satellite tags interfere with their flight, health, or mating? A: Properly fitted tags are designed to minimise interference, but no tag is “zero-impact.”. Best practice is to keep transmitter mass very small relative to body weight and use well-tested harness designs; the recent India work has been described as using very lightweight transmitters (a few grams). However, ethical review, careful fitting, and post-deployment evaluation should be done & is being done Q3. Do jet streams or high-altitude winds help them on this journey? A: Yes winds are a major part of the “physics” that makes the journey possible. The best-documented help is from seasonal monsoon tailwinds and strong, persistent wind systems over the Arabian Sea/Indian Ocean that can provide sustained push. Q4. How many other falcons are “accompanying” these famous three? A: These famous three are just the tagged individuals we can follow in reality, Amur Falcons migrate and roost in huge aggregations, often tens of thousands to over 100,000 at key stopovers, and broader estimates discuss movements involving very large numbers of birds across the flyway. Q5. Why have these three gone to different destinations? A: It’s common for individuals of the same species to winter in different areas within southern/eastern Africa. Differences can be driven by wind and weather, refuelling success and timing at stopovers, individual strategy/experience (age, condition, learned routes) etc. Q6. When will they return and what route will they take? A: In broad terms, Amur Falcons winter in Africa and then move north in late winter/early spring, reaching breeding regions in northeast Asia around May–June. Routes can differ between autumn vs spring, and tracking shows spring and autumn ocean crossings can follow different lines. Q7. Does part of the falcon’s brain “sleep” during the long flight? A: We have strong evidence that some birds can sleep in flight (including unihemispheric sleep) famously shown in frigatebirds. For Amur Falcons specifically, it’s not proven. Q8. How do they decide their destination, and do they return to the same places each year? A: The best-supported explanation is a mix of: Innate navigation programmes (genetically guided ) Environmental cues (winds, weather, geography, magnetic and celestial cues), learning/experience (older birds often show more consistent routes). Satellite work indicates the species follows remarkably consistent large-scale timing and corridors, even though individuals may vary. Q9. What do they eat to fuel such massive journeys? A: During the crucial Northeast India stopover, studies show they are highly insectivorous, with termites often dominant, along with other insect groups exactly the kind of high-abundance prey that allows rapid fattening before an ocean crossing. This is why protecting stopover habitats (and the insect “boom” they depend on) is so important. Q10. Is Ahu expected to move further? Why she is stationery ? A. Periods of little movement usually indicate resting or feeding in suitable habitat. This is normal behaviour and not a cause for concern Q11. How long does the GPS tag stay on the bird? A. The tag is fixed as a backpack & expected to stay for long, however this may come off from prolonged wear and tear, the tags may also stop transmitting after prolonged battery use.
