This Wyatt Langford catch from yesterday is a great... example of why catch probability is good to know. Just a 45% catch probability here. Why? Any MLB outfielder catches this ball if they get there. Most can't get there. Langford's jump is elite, +8.7 feet above the average outfielder. Folks are asking about this play from the Kansas... City Royals and Detroit Tigers. This was ruled Riley Greene reaching on a fielder's choice with the runner Kevin McGonigle safe at second on the error (and he eventually went to third). This is scored correctly, as this is an ordinary effort play by the second baseman Andrew Velazquez, who just has to catch an easy bouncing grounder and step on second. Fair Catch Kick… In the NFHS RULE BOOK there... is a strange rule, that I personally had never seen. By rule, a team that makes a fair catch on a punt is allowed to attempt a “free” kick from the spot of the fair catch on the next play. The free kick must be either a place kick or a drop kick. Jaylin Noel fair catching this punt is something that... I think had a bigger impact on the game than people may realize. With how much room Noel had after the catch, if he was able to get even 15 yards.
