With World Health Organization (WHO)'s support, Ministry of Health-... Uganda has started a vaccine trial against #Ebola Sudan virus today. The trial will enroll contacts of people with the disease, and contacts of the contacts. This vaccination trial was initiated with record speed, only three days since the outbreak was declared, while ensuring full compliance with international and national regulatory and ethical requirements. It is also the first trial to assess the clinical efficacy of a vaccine against Ebola Sudan virus disease. This trial demonstrates the importance of investing in R&D for vaccines and treatments and outbreak response preparedness, as well as partnerships. We thank Makerere University University and UVRI for their leadership, as well as Africa CDC, CEPI, EU HERA and IDRC | CRDI for their collaboration on this lifesaving effort. 🇫🇷 The newest frigate of the French Navy Amiral... Ronarc’h (D660), as well as the first ship in its class FDI (Defense and Intervention Frigates) has arrived at its home port Brest, joining the ranks of the Naval Forces. This ship, built at the shipyard of the French company Naval Group, is the first of five planned to be delivered to the French Navy, which will strengthen their surface fleet in accordance with the new plans of the French Army to increase defense spending. With a length of 122 meters and a displacement of 4500 tons, the frigate can reach a maximum speed of 27 knots (~50 km\/h) and maintain autonomy for 45 days, making it ideal for long voyages to crisis zones as well as for escorting carrier strike groups. The frigate is also equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and equipment: its arsenal includes Aster surface-to-air missiles, Exocet MM40 Block 3c anti-ship missiles, as well as MU 90 torpedoes and a 76-mm OTO Melara artillery system. Additionally, the ship can accommodate a helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicles, providing multifunctionality from anti-submarine warfare to supporting special forces operations. After five years at Twitch, the road comes to... an end due to today’s Amazon layoffs. Five years ago, I took a leap from being a full time creator on Twitch to joining Twitch proper. I wanted to make a real impact for creators on a larger scale, and I know I did that. I started on the Charity team expanding charity education helping nonprofits understand how to collaborate with creators and supporting creators fundraising for the causes they care most about. I onboarded and fast tracked animal focused non profits to Twitch, helping them bring their animal cams online during the pandemic to grow global audiences beyond local support during the shutdown. From that work, I created the Animals, Aquariums & Zoos category on Twitch. Im also one of the folks who launched the Twitch Charity Tool, empowering creators to fundraise directly on Twitch for nonprofits. After the first layoff, I was moved to Twitch’s Marketing department, where I expanded the Ambassador Program giving it new life and to the Ambassadors, new direction and purpose. From integrating ambassadors into internal feedback loops across monetization, product, trust & safety and more, to larger inclusion in marketing efforts across the site as well as TwitchCon, these were some of the way I uplifted and supported Twitch Ambassadors, their communities and the things they are passionate about. As for what’s next, I’m updating my resume and exploring new opportunities where I can continue empowering communities through community management, creator partnerships, program management, or marketing. While I look for my next adventure, I’ll also be returning to content creation, so you’ll definitely be seeing more of me around. Fashion, Optics, and Hypocrisy: Meghan Markle’s Balenciaga Problem For... a couple who have built a considerable portion of their public identity around mental health and child safety, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to display a baffling lack of self-awareness. The Archewell Foundation, which they co-founded, has made child protection and online safety central to its mission—launching campaigns calling for safer digital spaces, stricter social media safeguards, and protection for young people from the documented harms of online abuse, exploitation, and anxiety. It’s an admirable cause on paper. Yet, once again, their actions betray their own messaging. During Paris Fashion Week, Meghan Markle was seen attending the Balenciaga show—yes, that Balenciaga. The same fashion house that ignited global outrage for its 2022 advertising campaign featuring small children holding the brand’s teddy bear handbags dressed in bondage-inspired accessories. The campaign was condemned worldwide for its deeply inappropriate imagery, with critics pointing out that such visuals blurred the moral boundaries that protect children. In a related campaign (Garde-Robe), Balenciaga also included props such as a Supreme Court decision on child pornography in visual materials — which stirred further outrage over the blurred boundaries between fashion and exploitative symbolism. The backlash was so severe that Balenciaga swiftly removed the campaign, issued public apologies, and faced ongoing reputational damage for months. For most people, the lesson was clear: you don’t associate children with adult themes. Full stop. It should have been common sense. But apparently not for Meghan Markle—the self-proclaimed advocate for children’s wellbeing and online safety. While her Archewell Foundation preaches the importance of shielding children from harm, manipulation, and predatory influences, Meghan was photographed supporting a brand that became a symbol of precisely the moral decay such advocacy is meant to challenge. To wear or publicly support Balenciaga in any capacity—even years after the scandal—undermines her stated values entirely. The passage of time does not erase the original transgression, nor does it excuse the tone-deaf optics of a supposed child-safety campaigner aligning herself with a brand that used children in a context universally condemned as exploitative. This is not about fashion—it’s about consistency, credibility, and integrity. It’s fair to ask: does an invitation to Paris Fashion Week now outweigh the values Archewell claims to hold so dear? Because that is how it looks. The image of the Markle, smiling from the front row of a Balenciaga show, is a direct contradiction to the image of a humanitarian working to make the digital and physical worlds safer for children. It is precisely the kind of hypocrisy that erodes public trust—not just in her, but in the very causes she claims to represent. To make matters worse, the timing could not be more ironic. Within days, Meghan and Harry are set to receive the “Humanitarian of the Year” award from Project Healthy Minds at the upcoming World Mental Health Day Gala in New York. The irony is staggering: accepting a humanitarian honour for their advocacy on mental health and child safety, while simultaneously endorsing—through presence and fashion—a brand that became infamous for its insensitivity toward children. This is not the behaviour of serious advocates. This is performance. If there were any genuine understanding of what child protection means, such a public association would have been unthinkable. But as history continues to show, the Sussexes’ greatest consistency lies in their inconsistency. When the optics suit them, they preach virtue. When the cameras flash, those principles are conveniently forgotten. Perhaps Archewell’s PR team will attempt a quiet clean-up—pretending the Balenciaga appearance never happened or insisting that the Duchess of Sussex was merely “supporting the arts.” But even that will not wash. True advocates for child safety do not endorse or elevate brands that have, however briefly, crossed such a moral line. In the end, this is not just another minor misstep—it’s a symptom of a much larger problem. When your entire brand is built on compassion and advocacy, hypocrisy becomes your greatest enemy. And as Meghan and Harry prepare to take the stage and accept yet another humanitarian accolade, they might do well to remember that the public isn’t blind. Category Labs is proud to introduce Cadence, our multiple-concurrent-proposers... (MCP) consensus protocol that matches the optimal good-case latency of single-leader consensus while supporting arbitrarily short block intervals. When combined with BTX, our design for encrypted mempools, this represents a significant step towards solving the problem of MEV at the protocol level. In nearly every blockchain today, a single party ends up in control of each block: it decides which transactions get in, and can reorder them at will. MCP is the natural fix, but most recent designs pay for it with a separate aggregation phase, adding two extra communication rounds per block. Cadence makes the proposers part of consensus itself. Its fast path finalizes in an optimal three communication rounds, even when proposers are offline. Cadence also offers speculative finality, similar to MonadBFT, after just two rounds, revertible only if a proposer provably equivocated. In a simulation using estimated network delays between Monad mainnet's 200 globally distributed validators, finalization takes 219 ms on average, speculative finality 167 ms. Cadence pushes pipelining to the extreme: each block is proposed and finalized in its own independent consensus instance, without waiting on preceding blocks. The block interval then becomes a protocol parameter that can be arbitrarily small. At our initial target of 100 ms, a transaction waits on average just 50 ms to enter a proposal, and oracle prices, liquidations, and auctions can update every 100 ms. Cadence dynamically throttles the opening of new instances to bound the number of outstanding slots even during periods of network instability. When the network is healthy (under synchrony), a transaction included by an honest proposer can be neither dropped nor deferred (short-term censorship resistance), and no proposer can see the others' proposals in time to react (hiding). We prove both, together with safety and liveness under partial synchrony at the optimal 3f+1 fault bound. The Cadence protocol is modular: each module is simple on its own, and any of them can be swapped out without touching the rest. Cadence also builds on components already being deployed: proposals are disseminated as erasure-coded chunks over Deterministic RaptorCast, now rolling out on Monad, and validators vote on proposal digests, so voting does not wait for the full data to arrive.
