2023 was the year of AI avatars 2024 was... the year of AI photos 2025 was the year of AI videos And I think it's becoming clear now that 2026 will be the year of AI world models Fully interactive explorable 3d worlds generated from one or multiple 2d images or a prompt In turn these 2d images can then be generated by AI too So soon you can generate fully explorable virtual 3d worlds based on your own imagination Next will be figuring out how to make those worlds interactive This is World Labs (unaffiliated, but I like it) As always a lot of big AI model companies are now working on the same thing: 3d world models, only World Labs has a real properly working demo (for now) Very exciting time again!show more

3D $ANIME ? Using 3D in anime or a... complete series in 3D style, how does this affect the anime industry? Probably the most hated anime after which people hated 3D in anime was Berserk in 2016, it was really terrible, but 3D in anime is no longer what it was in 2010-20. Let's look at the pros and cons of 3D in anime and what series can be called good 3D anime Pros of 3D Animation: 🟢Dynamic camera angles & smooth motion 🟢Saves time & production costs 🟢Consistent character proportions Cons of 3D Animation: 🔴Can look stiff or "plastic" 🔴Limited facial expressions 🔴Often disliked by traditional anime fans Top 3D $ANIME series in my opinion: 🔵Houseki no Kuni – stunning visuals & fluid animation 🔵Dorohedoro – dark, gritty style perfectly fits CGI 🔵Beastars – expressive character animation 🔵Trigun: Stampede – cinematic action & high-quality CGI The best studio that combines 2D and 3D well is, I think, Ufotable Ufotable blends 2D & 3D seamlessly: 🟡3D backgrounds + 2D character animation 🟡Anime-style shading makes 3D look hand-drawn 🟡Frame-by-frame touch-ups for smooth motion 🟡Mixing 2D effects (fire, water) with 3D for impact Example: "Demon Slayer" – epic battle scenes like Tanjiro’s Water Breathing, using 3D camera movement while preserving 2D aesthetics. Which 3D $ANIME impressed you the most?show more

Segment Any 3D Gaussians paper page: Interactive 3D segmentation... in radiance fields is an appealing task since its importance in 3D scene understanding and manipulation. However, existing methods face challenges in either achieving fine-grained, multi-granularity segmentation or contending with substantial computational overhead, inhibiting real-time interaction. In this paper, we introduce Segment Any 3D GAussians (SAGA), a novel 3D interactive segmentation approach that seamlessly blends a 2D segmentation foundation model with 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), a recent breakthrough of radiance fields. SAGA efficiently embeds multi-granularity 2D segmentation results generated by the segmentation foundation model into 3D Gaussian point features through well-designed contrastive training. Evaluation on existing benchmarks demonstrates that SAGA can achieve competitive performance with state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, SAGA achieves multi-granularity segmentation and accommodates various prompts, including points, scribbles, and 2D masks. Notably, SAGA can finish the 3D segmentation within milliseconds, achieving nearly 1000x acceleration compared to previous SOTA.show more

Imagine making 2D concept art for a game world... –pressing a button – and suddenly you can walk around an interactive 3D world. That's what Google DeepMind's new paper Genie 2 can do – simulate virtual worlds, including the consequences of any action (e.g. unlock door, jump, swim etc). Right now Genie 2 can generate consistent worlds for up to a minute. And this world model seems to generate larger 3D worlds than what World Labs showcased yesterday. Plus they're dynamic vs. static worlds – the foliage moves in the wind, the water ripples etc. Not quite ready for prime time, but promising on two fronts: 1. For game developers: enabling rapid prototyping of interactive experiences straight from concept art 2. For AI research: providing unlimited, diverse 3D environments for training and testing AI agents The race for building the biggest, baddest world model is very much on. Meanwhile, all I can think is "if only Stadia was still around!"show more

✨ Made a new mini feature on Photo AI:... [ Grab from 3d model ] So the problem is we're at that stage in time (typical for AI) where image-to-3d models are not good enough but are fun to play with, but we know they'll be good enough in 1-2 years With [ Make 3d model ] you already can turn any Photo AI pic into a 3d model but it still looks hyper clunky and deformed, but it works! One cool idea I had to make that more useful and made now: Let people make a 3d model then change the view of the it with the 3d viewer, then press [ o ] and it grabs a frame of the 3d That image you can then [ Remix ] (img2img), and it becomes a real photo again and that in turn you can then turn into a video again with [ Make video ] So that essentially gives you a fully freeform camera position control to take photos with One thing I need to fix is the background/skybox, I kinda need to take the original photo and remove the person and just get the background for the 3d model viewer, in this case it should be white, but it's a start!show more

In the summer of 2023, I cold emailed Jensen... Huang and asked to capture a NeRF of him at SIGGRAPH. He responded in about an hour and said yes. A radiance field is, in the simplest terms, akin to a 3D photograph. A moment in time, so completely reconstructed that you can move through it and see it from angles the original cameras never occupied. NeRFs were the original method. Gaussian splatting, which debuted at that same SIGGRAPH, has since become the dominant form of radiance field. I called my late friend James, who told me we needed to begin practicing immediately. We ran capture after capture for weeks until we consistently got the capture time down to ~30 seconds with one camera. Later, in a hallway at the LA Convention Center during SIGGRAPH, I captured the portrait you're seeing now, a full 360° gaussian splat of Jensen, rendered here as a 2D flythrough. Afterward, I continued the conversation with him and members of his team to make the case for radiance fields as a foundational representation for imaging. To my surprise, they listened. Three years later, NVIDIA has several works, including NuRec, fVDB, 3DGRUT, and gsplat all utilizing radiance fields. The landscape has evolved enough that the reasoning is obvious. Gaussian splatting has begun to ship across some of the world’s largest industries, including autonomous vehicles, AEC, geospatial, media and entertainment, robotics, e-commerce, hospitality. It’s become clear that lifelike 3D is here to stay. And yet I think we will look back and be disappointed by how late we started taking 3D portraits of the people around us, just like how we have sparse 2D photos of our grandparents and great grandparents. We have billions of photographs of the people we know and love, but almost no radiance fields of them. I'll be returning to SIGGRAPH in LA where this was initially captured three years ago, with the landscape looking significantly different. Radiance fields are more under deployed than ever relative to what they can do. I'm excited for the future of imaging, and for 2D to transition into 3D. I have a few things up my sleeve that I think will make that case plainly.show more

Speaking of Dreams.. still kinda crazy to me how... perfect of a match a tool like that is for generative AI workflows. Intuitive game engine/creative sandbox that allows you to build almost anything, running underneath a Gen AI render. Sculpting, painting, interacting with your two hands in 3d space, here using two move controllers which by now is tech from 2010. I haven't seen ANY way to interact with 3d that allows for the same fast and intuitive sculpting without forcing you to wear a VR headset. I made this scene a few years ago in 2 and a half hour or so as part of a 1 scene pr. episode of The Last of Us, and ran it through a combo of Runway and Sora to get to this result.show more

There's an open-source home robot vacuum you can actually... build yourself. It's called OOMWOO. Runs on a Raspberry Pi with 2D LiDAR mapping, ROS2 navigation, and native Home Assistant integration. No cloud dependency, no vendor lock-in. The team spent real time researching before designing it. They reviewed the entire 2025-2026 robot vacuum market, from budget to flagship, and found real-world cleaning doesn't track advertised suction power. The anti-tangle brush design alone is worth mentioning. A tapered rubber roller that resists hair-wrap, one of the most common complaints with commercial models, easy to 3D-print yourself. If you've got a Raspberry Pi and a 3D printer sitting around, this is a genuinely interesting weekend project.show more

Today, we released Lyra 2.0, a framework for generating... persistent, explorable 3D worlds at scale, from NVIDIA Research. Generating large-scale, complex environments is difficult for AI models. Current models often “forget” what spaces look like and lose track of movement over time, causing objects to shift, blur, or appear inconsistent. This prevents them from creating the reliable 3D environments required for downstream simulations. Lyra 2.0 solves these issues by: ✅ Maintaining per-frame 3D geometry to retrieve past frames and establish spatial correspondences ✅ Using self-augmented training to correct its own temporal drifting. Lyra 2.0 turns an image into a 3D world you can walk through, look back, and drop a robot into for real-time rendering, simulation, and immersive applications. ➡️ Learn more: 📄 Read the paper:show more

How to generate 3D miniature city models and animate... them using Kling AI? This visual effect can be created with Kling O1, and then rotated in 3D using Image to Video. The image prompt used for generation is as follows: Present a clear, 45° top-down isometric miniature 3D cartoon scene of New York featuring its most iconic landmarks and architectural elements. Use soft, refined textures with realistic PBR materials and gentle, lifelike lighting and shadows. Integrate the current weather conditions directly into the city environment to create an immersive atmospheric mood.Use a clean, minimalistic composition with a soft, solid-colored background. At the top-center, place the title "New York" in large bold text in white. You can create different effects by changing the city name according to your needs.show more

🌀 #Live3D #Live2D #Live2DWIP 🌀 Today, I’d like to... share two of the three methods I use to create joint twisting in my Live2D-based 2D Pseudo-3D concept. On the right is the Glue Joint: The basic idea is to use Glue to connect two pseudo-3D ArtMeshes. By taking advantage of Glue’s weight settings, it can create an effect similar to a 3D joint. Once the weights are set up, it can move very freely with a relatively low amount of work. However, it also shares the same weakness as 3D joints: when rotated at large angles, it can produce unpleasant twisting and distortion. On the left is the Hand-Bent Joint: The basic idea is to add bending Keyforms directly to a Warp Deformer, then manually sculpt the ideal deformation. This method can create the most detailed and refined joints, depending entirely on how the rigger designs them. The downside is that it requires much more work. Every additional degree of freedom requires a significant amount of manual adjustment. These two joint methods have almost opposite characteristics, so in actual Live3D work, I choose the most suitable method depending on the situation. For example, in this hand model, I used Hand-Bent Joints for the arm twisting and fingers, while the wrist uses a Glue Joint.✨show more
