VIDEO: 86 rooms where tenants paid N250,000 a year... found under Lagos bridge Lagos State's Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Wednesday said the government discovered 86 partitioned rooms, sized 10x10 and 12x10, under the Dolphin Estate Bridge, Ikoyi, on Lagos Island. Tenants are said to be paying N250,000 per annum for the makeshift apartment under the bridge. Wahab shared this information via a post on on Wednesday, along with videos. He added that the enforcement team of Lagos State's Ministry of Environment and Water Resources had successfully removed all structures, including a container utilised for various illegal activities, from beneath the Dolphin Estate bridge. Sharing videos he wrote, "A total number of 86 rooms, partitioned into 10x10 and 12x10, and a container used for different illegal activities were discovered under the Dolphin Estate Bridge. "They have all been removed by the enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources" A Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, further confirmed the eviction of squatters from beneath the bridge towards Dolphin Estate in Ikoyi over illegal settlement and environmental violations. Rotimi-Akodu mentioned that 23 individuals were arrested during the eviction, which was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI on Tuesday. He wrote, "Squatters dwelling under the bridge leading from inward Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi were evicted today Tuesday, 30th of April, 2024 by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps LAGESC (aka KAI). "These people created their illegal settlement under the bridge, thereby exposing the critical infrastructure to impending destruction. 23 persons have so far been arrested and MoE/KAI will continue to monitor the place. The law will take its course." He also confirmed that the bridge has hitherto housed 86 rooms, partitioned into 10x10 and 12x10 with squatters paying an average rent of N250,000 per annum. The villagers reportedly engaged the assailants directly, forcing them to retreat after a brief confrontation. During the encounter, one of the suspected bandits was neutralised by the community defence group, while others fled with possible injuries. VIDEO: Residents rescue man gagged by wife, sons over... pension dispute Residents of Oko-Filling, a serene neighborhood in Araromi, Ijoko, Sango Ota, came to the rescue of a man who had been bound, gagged and left for death by his wife and children following a dispute over his retirement benefits. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, March 13, at the family’s residence. The conflict began when the man reportedly refused to hand over the entirety of his retirement payout to his wife and four sons. After receiving the money, he used a portion to open two shops for his wife in Abule after giving her N3 million. He also bought a N12 million car for himself while the family already owned a home in the area. However, his wife and sons, who are all university graduates, expressed dissatisfaction with the distribution of the funds and attempted to pressure him for more. The situation took a darker turn when the man sold the newly purchased vehicle shortly after acquiring it, raising suspicions among neighbors. A local landlord, who spoke to The Nation, revealed that the man was later discovered in his home with his mouth, hands, and feet bound. "He was tied like an animal to be slaughtered. They (his wife and kids) got some Aboki men, about six of them to tie him up. It was the strange noise from their parking that alerted residents who gathered in front of the house to know what was happening. "Landlords in the area who could not endure the noise at that hour, decided to go out and find out what was wrong. When they got to his compound, they saw a Korope (small bus) outside packing properties. "His wife and sons were the ones packing and so, the residents asked after the man. When the response given was not satisfactory, they forced themselves inside the house and saw the man completely bound with the Aboki people still inside the house, as though they were waiting to kill him. "The man was untied and rushed to the hospital. He's still at the hospital receiving treatment. The suspects were all taken to the police station. One of the Aboki men confessed it was the man's wife that contracted them to tie him up. They were all taken to the police station that morning," said the landlord. Instead of defending the "passionate Lagosians" (our indigenous youths) who confronted her, Omotoso apologized to her, told her she "did no wrong," and offered her state protection like a prize. He effectively branded the sons of the soil as the "problem" to please a stranger. Let’s be clear: If Gbenga Omotoso were in his ancestral home in Osun, he would never side with a settler against his own kinsmen. He would defend his blood and his heritage. But because he is a "settler" in Lagos, he feels no such loyalty. To him, our ancestral land is just a political playground where he can pander to outsiders at our expense. This is the "liberal" curse of the current administration—inviting guests who eventually spit in the faces of the hosts. We are tired of "mercenary" officials who use our resources to shield those who mock our city's challenges. If your loyalty lies with "settler solidarity" and political optics rather than the indigenous people of Lagos, you have no business in our cabinet. Lagos is not a No-Man’s Land. The music video was created by two animators at Slackcircus Studios, who were inspired by Eric Fensler's G.I. Joe PSA series, by pairing footage of the titular protagonist from the 1980s American cartoon series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe with American alternative rock band 4 Non Blondes' 1992 hit single "What's Up." On May 8th, 2005, the original copy of the video file was uploaded to the Something Awful forums under the title "Fabulous Secret Powers" The same month the video was uploaded, the creators also launched a faux blog allegedly written in 1995 by the renamed He-Man character, Prince Adam.
