At the end of the day, as I discussed with Jordan Peterson, there are just two games to be played, one real, one Woke. The real game is called civilization. The false game is called power. A long post/🧵: The real divide between Woke and not Woke is in power. The Woke game is the power game, and it is a parasite on the real game, which is civilization. Here's roughly how Jordan described the foundation of this idea. There are various rules, norms, etc., in the game society ultimately plays, and these create a hierarchy that is based upon competence, mostly organically, obviously imperfectly. If the rules of the game are good enough, the imperfections (natural corruptions) are minor and society thrives. If they are not, you'll have problems. This is the real game of building society, and it ultimately has to favor competence. This game must be called "civilization" because that's not just its goal but it is also what it does. It civilizes us beyond our base instincts and impulses so we can work together productively in a healthy manner that generates prosperity. As Jordan put it, this game is also a reservoir of value, and reservoirs of value create parasites. What are these civilizational parasites? They’re parallel games organized by and around malignant psychopathological modes like Dark Tetrad traits, psychopathy, and Cluster-B disorders: histrionic, borderline, antisocial, and narcissistic. These malignant pathologies render people incompetent except at manipulation, so they cannot rise far in a healthy civilizational hierarchy. What do they do, then, to gain power and status in life in a game they cannot actually play? They define a parasitic parallel game and rope people into playing it. It is parasitic in that it draws off the real game (civilization) and mimics its form so that the hosts (people in society) are less likely to realize it’s there, but it doesn’t build or create of its own. It siphons and tears down. What drives this game is failing to see what makes the civilizational game and the hierarchy it produces legitimate in the first place. This is characteristic of the psychopathologies at its heart. The narcissist imagines the world should be serving himself at the top, but it isn’t. The problem can’t be himself, so it must be that the game is illegitimate. Otherwise, he’d be at the top, but he isn’t. Therefore, the game is corrupt. His histrionic nature makes him a victim of the real game, preying upon emotions like empathy and righteous indignation to recruit followers. Because of his Dark Tetrad alignment, his game is not only illegitimate but toxic. It’s inherently sadistic, cruel to its recruits in the way typical of all cults—alternating punishment and leniency or even love-bombing. It’s dishonest. It’s psychologically broken from reality. It’s also a Machiavellian game, which means it has no interest in moral or ethical behavior but only in power. Thus, this rival game to the game of civilization is the game of power. The parasitic game—that is, the power game—is based on a fundamental failure to understand the legitimacy of the civilizational game or the approximately legitimate hierarchy it produces. This is a result of its narcissism, mostly. The game cannot be legitimate because the psychopath isn’t on top of it, where he sees himself constantly as a projection from his frail ego. It sees power in the real hierarchy, though, which it can perceive and understand, and for which it blames most of its troubles. What this means is that the (Woke) power game develops a critical theory of the existing legitimate civilization game. That’s why Woke means “using critical theory (and activism).” A critical theory exists not to articulate a vision—at least not beyond a Utopia after the cult power game holds power to enforce its power game long enough—but to “criticize those aspects of the existing society we wish to change,” as Max Horkheimer, creator of the Critical Theory, put it. The critical theory of the power game exists to recruit by delegitimizing the civilization game in the minds of some of its players, usually ones who aren’t succeeding as well. It picks at “contradictions,” failures, and imperfections while casting the whole civilization game as corrupt and unjust. It offers itself as the only alternative to civilization game while pulling at the threads of the civilization game that allow people to believe in it. It all proceeds from the Woke failure to understand the legitimacy of the hierarchy of the civilization game as it proceeds from its set of rules. Misunderstanding legitimacy leads it to conclude that all hierarchies are actually based in power, and all power is fundamentally arbitrary. That is, they do not believe all power is illegitimate. They believe power is the only legitimate thing in any hierarchy, but they also believe that power is located in persons like themselves through their narcissism and projection. Think of Voldemort as an icon of this mode of thinking: “there is no good or evil, only power and those too weak to seek it.” Of course, that quintessential Dark Tetrad perspective is what ensures the psychopathological power game will be rigged to make sure the psychopaths are attracted to it and rise to its top. This belief is what we call Woke. The Woke game is the power game, and it is a parasitic competitor to the civilization game. There is no overlap between these two games. To adopt the power game is to abandon the civilization game entirely and, in fact, to become its enemy. But James, you might ask, isn’t there power in civilization? Yes, there is, and necessarily, but it isn’t what defines the civilization game. It’s a byproduct of the game, not the game itself. The civilization game is fundamentally the building out of an organic and dynamic hierarchy based on a set of rules, or what some people call “muh principles,” that will succeed or fail for that civilization in direct proportion to three things. 1) How aligned with the truth are the rules of the civilization game? 2) How aligned with justice are the rules of the civilization game? 3) How willing are the participants of the civilization game to defend their principles and their game, including against socio-parasitical perversion? The more aligned with truth and justice a civilization game is, the more successful it will be, and the more legitimate its hierarchy. The power that results as a byproduct is extremely legitimate in a highly aligned civilization where people haven’t forgotten their charge to defend the game itself, which is what we call responsibility. A civilization game strongly aligned with truth and justice filled with a preponderance of responsible people will produce a thriving, prosperous society. It only works this way every time. Not everyone is responsible, though. Some are also incompetent because of various pathologies (not talking about for other reasons). Those pathological players may, under certain circumstances, create a parasitic side game with themselves on top through a variety of strategies that mimic the values and principles of the real game while distorting them into power plays because their game is power, as discussed above. They will recruit into that game primarily from those who are resentful of the real game for any variety of reasons, and getting recruited into the power game from the civilization game is called “going Woke.”

I've been spending more time with Bezi to see how far I can push vibe coding a game on the Unity Editor. So far, I'm pretty happy with what I can achieve with Bezi. Here are some learnings: - Even though I use Bezi to do all agentic coding, I still have to perform a few small manual tasks in the Unity Editor - As a result, I feel like I am getting a hang of Unity's complex and clunky UI, which actually feels good! - This is one of those examples where Vibe Coding is a great way to learn game dev. - For big features, I can't state the importance of asking the agent to create a plan first before implementing the feature. It can work wonders. Most of the bigger features/ssytems starts with a clear plan. - The biggest strength about working with Unity Engine is the Unity Asset Store, there's so much good stuff in there, 3D assets, shaders, vfx etc that can really spice up your game, that other game enginers will need to build from scratch. - Because Unity Assets Stores sell UI assets packs, I was able to implement decent looking UI fairly quickly. For those of you that vibe code games, you know how much of a pain it is to implement UI. - I did meet a few hiccups along the way where Bezi seems to struggle a little with implementing some features, but usually with some retries it works out at the end, though it burns a ton of tokens. After spending more time with Bezi, I'm still feeling good about using it. I am able to get this PvZ style autobattler working in a few days!

Who remembers this classic shooter from 35 years ago? SWIV (or "Silkworm IV" as called by some) from 1991. Graphics and sound effects were excellent for its time. But what I liked the most was that you could toggle through the power ups by shooting at them when they dropped. It added some extra fun and complexity, it allowed you to really improve (or mess up!) your weapons path. The game was considered a spiritual successor to Tecmo's arcade game Silkworm from 1989. The game's heritage is evident from the game design whereby one player pilots a helicopter, and the other an armoured Jeep. SWIV is not an official sequel, as noted by ex-Sales Curve producer Dan Marchant: "SWIV wasn't really a sequel to Silkworm, but it was certainly inspired by it and several other shoot-'em-ups that we had played and loved." If you listen closely to the sound effects, you will definitely hear a resemblance to "Silkworm." Sometimes I would just let the intro run endlessly - the music was simply too good!

Stellar Blade is a game that only gets worse the longer you play. Level/world design is appallingly boring. Enemy design is some of the most generic ever. Traversal/platforming elements are simply bad. I really appreciate the incredible work put into the character models, animation, and even more into costume design. Really superb dedication here! The combat is a saving grace, although it could be improved, greatly. Overall the game "justifies" itself thanks to its unapologetic, but well produced, presentation. It's a nice and fun action adventure game with awful writing, terrible quests, and dated game design. It outstays its welcome, as 10 to 15 hours could have easily been cut from the final game to improve pacing. Somehow manages to work well enough overall still. I'm finishing Stellar Blade for the first time, and that's why I'm writing this now. It's one of those games I started, then paused for many months, and now decided to return. If I had to give it a score this would be a strong 6/10, but it's the kind of 6 I can appreciate, and I'm looking forward to the sequel. IMO

Khaman Maluach on what has grown off the court from his rookie to sophomore season. “I think I’ve always had the mental edge. I just had to go to the next level. I think the mental part was a good part, too. It’s a big piece of the game of basketball. It’s almost 90% mental than physical. I’ve always worked with that… learning from older guys, for example, reaching out to other bigs in the NBA and being able to learn from them. I asked who he reached out too. “I reached out to Rudy (Gobert) and I asked him how he keeps up with his body. What he does throughout the whole summer, and just really learn from him and have something to take away from him.”

What made Claude feel different from a normal app is that the agent could act inside the interface instead of only talking in a chat box. Sleeping Dogs was slept on and hugely underrated. For a game that came out almost 14 years ago, it had a development budget of 30 million dollars and it managed to do such a fantastic job at everything that it had to offer. For starters, this game had a solid story, great character, amazing fighting mechanics with different finishers, parkour, good driving mechanics and small details that some open world games today wont even bother to add. Melee Combat is fantastic, you can grab different objects from the ground and smash NPCs with them or throw at them, this added so much versatility in combat. Finishers are also extremely satisfying, any object that is highlighted in red will guarantee you that you'll get to see one of the most fun ways to finish off an enemy. While driving mechanics were nothing too spectacular, it still offered you a great way to play while driving by having Ramming added to vehicles so you could push other vehicles away while you're being chased, in-game races were also very fun to play in my experience! Its a real shame this game didn't get nowhere near the recognition it deserved because I truly believe if we'd ever gotten a sequel, it would improve upon everything that the first game lacked and it would be an amazing franchise.

"Let's be honest, nobody liked reading a manual back in the day." I came across that comment a while ago and found it incredibly sad. Either the person didn't experience the 80s and 90s gaming era (meaning they don't know what they're talking about), or they genuinely didn't appreciate what came with the game - often far more than just the box and disks. Some publishers were known for their dedication and attention to detail (MicroProse comes to mind with their massive manuals), while others added little extras: a map, a coin, a figurine, a poster, a spell book, a tech-tree overview, and so on. To me, the joy of reading and exploring all that was part of the experience. Gobbling up the high-level spells from the Wizardry VII manual, marveling at the Ultima V map, remembering the Monkey Island Dial-A-Pirate code wheel, cutting out the keyboard overlay for Silent Service II… So, let's be honest: some of us actually liked reading the manual and appreciating whatever else came in the game box, and the work that the people who made it put into it. What you get today is a digital download - no box to open, no manual to touch, no poster to hang up, no map to study.

I've been championing DragonSword : Awakening for a while, especially after it dropped its gacha system in favor of a fairer business model. Recently, I finally had time to play the demo! ✅👍I was surprised by how polished and smooth it felt. The world has a great atmosphere, and I really enjoyed the Link Combat system reminding me of another game from Hound13 (the developer) named Hundred Souls, so perhaps I have a bias in there... ❌👎Although, I can't help to feel discontent that that parts of the visuals, progression, and UI carry the DNA of other gacha games. I wish the game had been built on a different foundation... So, if you've been looking for a Genshin-like experience without the gacha baggage + with beautiful Korean-game-style aesthetics, this game might be right up your alley! ✨

I’ve been using Grok Bot in early access for a little over a week now, and it has been a massive boost to my game dev workflow and my productivity in general. One of the first things I asked it to do was to visit my custom art generation tool webpage and generate art assets to replace all the image placeholders in my game. It looked through my codebase to understand what each asset was, wrote a custom art generation prompt for every single one, generated the images, cropped and cleaned them up into transparent PNGs, and then wired them back into the game. In about 2 hours, it generated 74 (cleaned and cropped) art assets for the cards and integrated all of them into my game. Now, ALL my art assets workflows go through Grok bot. This blew my mind because, before this, I was doing everything manually, one asset at a time. It basically solved my entire art asset workflow and allowed me to put it on autopilot, which is amazing. I’ve also been using Grok Bot for: Playtesting my game: The bot was a little slow initially, so I asked it to build a skill specifically designed to playtest my game, with intimate knowledge of its rules and mechanics. It’s much faster now, though I’m still looking for ways to optimise its speed. Setting up my itchio page for my game: It also automated a workflow that uploads a new build to itch whenever I push one to GitHub. Going to the itch website and uploading builds manually every single time was always a pain. Flowcharts and UX design: I’m a UX designer by day, so I decided to give it a much bigger task. I fed the agent a PRD and asked it to design the UX flows and wireframes. With the help of the Figma MCP, it actually delivered. Auditing all my paid subscriptions: I had it go through my emails and hunt down subscriptions that I might have forgotten about. Unsubscribing me from marketing newsletters: It did this beautifully, though it did miss a few newsletters. What I’ve learned is that it takes time to discover all the possible use cases for Grok bot. I’ve had to reevaluate my day-to-day workflows and figure out which parts I can delegate to it. So far, it has been a huge productivity unlock for me and I am discovering more uses for my Grok bots every other day.

Where this offense is great to me is using the full court, spacing out so guys can attack from beyond half court... When the game slows down, its difficult to play a full court game where your spreading the floor just going 1 on 1. Teams are going to load up. The idea of being this equal opportunity offense where you have multiple players who can get it done sounds great but at the end of the game its gotta be simplicity and clarity Wade: It sound good. claude playing TFT -- i ran it for two games and it improved in-context from 0 to 3/30 rounds won. it figured out "3-starring" on its own (buying pairs to upgrade units) which is a core mechanic of this game and hasnt been instructed on how to play besides asking it to "play tft and win" comparing this cua agent to OpenAI Five's result from 2017 which is a different game, model(a big LSTM), had access to Dota's API outputted a discrete action at 4.6hz this cua agent runs at 0.15hz considering it takes anywhere from 2-15 seconds to think(0.07hz without), and is just pixels in, any mouse/keyboard out... and (potentially) wasnt trained on TFT specifically but not sure despite this 2-15s seems to be fine for a turned based game like TFT but in prior videos like league/minecraft is considerably harder for a cua agent to do since by the time you take a screenshot the game state may have changed and you've wasted 7 seconds thinking, and another 7 seconds thinking about the new game state, and catastrophically failing like that. the intention here is not to play TFT or league with a bot. please dont use it as such
