Jensen Huang says agentic AI is not a chatbot. It is a "digital robot" -- and the next bottleneck is not the model. It is first-person data. "Agentic AI is just a digital robot. It understands, it reasons, it plans, and it acts and uses tools." Then he makes the bigger jump: "The world's video data is from a third person, not first person. And so agentic systems, robotic systems, physical AI -- the data is the hardest problem." That is the hidden constraint in robotics. LLMs got the internet. HUMANOID ROBOTS ARE AMAZING. BUT WHERE IS THE ROI? Watching a humanoid robot work at BMW is genuinely impressive. As an engineer, I love it. But I also can’t ignore one question. For this task, why not use a 6-axis robot on a linear axis? It would likely be: * Faster. * More precise. * More stable. * Much cheaper. So why the humanoid? Because BMW isn’t optimizing this task. They’re training Physical AI. Every successful grasp, every failure, every unexpected situation becomes data that teaches robots to handle the real world. That’s the real investment. The demo is impressive. The business case? I’m not convinced… yet. Are we looking at the future of manufacturing—or the world’s most expensive AI training program? But our understanding of the physical world is still limited by sparse sensors and models built largely on intuition. Cheaper sensors and better foundation models could unlock entirely new datasets for energy, agriculture, logistics, construction, and the climate. Once you can accurately model the physical world, you can begin to control it.

We might be solving the wrong problem in robotics. That’s what this makes clear. UMI → Universal Manipulation Interface A simple $400 gripper that lets you teach robots by demonstration. You hold it like a tool. Show the task. The robot learns. No teleoperation. No expensive hardware. No robot-specific data. Stanford open-sourced everything → hardware, code, datasets. What stands out to me is the bottleneck. Not algorithms. Data. Teleoperation → ~35 demos/hour UMI → ~111 demos/hour And the data transfers across robots → UR5, Franka, others. We recently crossed 10,000 GitHub stars on Rerun 😍 That's great and all, but something bigger is happening in robotics and Physical AI right now: The open-source ecosystem has seen real acceleration over the last few years. More teams are sharing real infrastructure: datasets, models, simulators, tooling, and the unglamorous plumbing that makes iteration possible. Jan Florian Maas, Physical Intelligence, Hugging Face are just some of the names driving this forward. Visualization and data infra belong in that category. If your entire data loop depends on being able to query and inspect what your robots are doing, that layer can’t be fragile or vendor-controlled. It needs to be something you can introspect, build on, extend, and trust long-term. Huge thanks to everyone building open-source robotics. The next decade of Physical AI will be built in the open.

That makes them data-hungry and slow to train. mimic video takes a different route. Instead of grounding robot control in text, it grounds it in video, using large pre-trained video models that already capture physical motion and dynamics. The idea is straightforward: let the video model handle “what will happen next,” and let a smaller control model focus only on turning that visual plan into robot actions. The result is big gains in practice. Robots trained this way need 10× less data, converge twice as fast, and perform better on both simulated benchmarks and real bimanual manipulation tasks. If robots can “imagine” motion using video, control becomes a much simpler problem. Shoutout to Jonas Pai, Liam Achenbach, Oier Mees, Elvis Nava and the rest of the team!
