24+ hours later, is there any credible evidence Pretti even displayed a firearm? He did display a phone. Appears an agent took a gun off Pretti during the scrum. But it also seems increasingly clear that shooting began AFTER an accidental discharge by that same agent.

A preliminary report to Congress from Customs and Border Protection obtained by CBS News says two CBP agents opened fire during the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti. The report says that while Pretti was on the ground, a Border Patrol agent repeatedly yelled, “He’s got a gun,” but it makes no mention of Pretti reaching for a firearm in his waistband. Matt Gutman reports.

Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino held a press conference portraying CBP shooting victim Alex Pretti as a dangerous assassin who was intending to “massacre” law enforcement. For every one of Bovino’s assertions, there’s a growing amount of first-hand video and eyewitness accounts that point to the total opposite. Bovino claims that Pretti approached law enforcement with a weapon. In fact, Pretti appears to be filming on his phone and then steps in front of an agent after he pepper sprays and pushes another bystander to shield her. MPD has confirmed Alex Pretti was licensed to own and carry a gun. There is no footage showing him pulling it on law enforcement during the encounter. On the contrary, multiple videos, including a freeze-frame analysis of the one BT first posted this morning, show an agent appearing to remove the firearm from Alex Pretti’s holster before the first shot from CBP. With more information still coming out, BT journalists remain in Minnesota and will continue to ensure the facts of this story are not distorted.

Multiple bad decisions led to Pretti’s killing. 1️⃣ WHO IS TO BLAME FOR THE SHOTS: The agent in the grey jacket caused the shooting and is responsible for Pretti’s death. 1) The agent took the gun from Pretti 2) He screamed “GUN” 3) Everyone thought Pretti had a gun, which was wrong. He should have said “I GOT HIS GUN” 4) He accidentally discharged Pretti’s gun. This fits with the claim that a bullet impacted the pavement near Pretti’s front. 5) The agent failed to communicate the misfire 6) Other agents thought Pretti had a gun and heard shots 7) Other agents shot Pretti in what they perceived as self-defence 8) The agents tried to find the gun but couldn’t. This shows they genuinely believed he fired first. → The grey-jacket agent acted irresponsibly and failed to communicate with his colleagues. He caused the deadly confusion. 2️⃣ WHO IS TO BLAME FOR THE ESCALATION: The agents were fighting with the female protesters and started pushing them. It does not look like they gave proper orders, checked IDs or followed any procedure. It just looks like they were annoyed and wanted to shut them up. This video made by Paramount Tactical - Gary Melton is critical because it seems to show, rather definitively, that many of the agents—possibly all agents except for the one who disarmed Pretti—were completely unaware that Pretti had been disarmed when they fired shots at Pretti. Otherwise, they would not have been shouting, "Where's the gun?" They would have known that their colleague had secured Pretti's firearm.
